Thought everyone might be interested to know, the Collector's Edition has jumped from #793 yesterday to #523 today (on Amazon's ranking).

So, just to clarify, this collector's edition has only three things that the Australians didn't already get:

1) a second commentary with Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau and Ron Glass
2) the "Session 416" feature
3) the "Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity" feature.

And number two may (or may not) just be what is available for free online anyway.

The Australian version has a 45 minute Q&A that is not on the Collector's edition.

Is that right?

-

Anyway, I'm happy the collectors edition is coming out, happy there's a new commentary, happy it includes most of the features I've failed to get thus far, and happy we have new box art. Today for the first time in a long time I actually looked at the Serenity box art, I mean really looked at it instead of just glancing to make sure I was grabbing the right DVD, and realized I had forgotten how much it sucked. That was, and is, truly wretched.

Doesn't the gun look like the one Mal was carrying on the SPOILER planet? It is just missing the copper sight ends. I looked at a pic of it yesterday in the Serenity The Official Visual Companion book

Oh, yeah, that moon is the SPOILER planet's moon...River sees it in a vision/dream.

Thought you might all be interested: Collector's edition currently #394 on Amazon's DVD list (was 523 yesterday and 793 the day before that). Hope that makes Universal sit up and take notice. Maybe Haken will put a ranking tracker up...

Oooo, this IS interesting...

And we've not even considered a concerted effort for buying yet.

I hope Haken does put up a tracker.

Yah and a link to buy from here. I already bought one through Amazon because I couldn't wait (I know, I know, it won't come any faster if I preorder now but psychologically I feel like it will). But I plan to order at least one more and will hold off so I can do it through this site.

Faster, faster would be better!

I agree with TDBrown... I think it would help out numbers if everyone that can, buys their copy from universal! At least buy a second copy from them if you can't wait and just have to order from a retailer.
Just my 2cents. I guess here's my question... does Universal only care that they sell 100,000 units to Amazon, or does it matter how many amazon sells.
For instance... if Amazon orders 100,000 copies and only sells 99,000 of them... does that still count as 100,000 on the Universal payroll? Or do they find out how many Amazon still has in stock and deduct that from their sales totals? What I'm saying is we should be able to up the numbers if we buy at least one copy direct from Universal. That way the retailers buy "x" number of copies, and universal also sells "x" number on top of that. I hope I'm making sense?

Well, just like with the regular BDM, I've gotta have at least two of this. One to loan, one to treasure.
So I preordered one from Universal, and I'm gonna preorder one from Amazon too!

Ditto!

And one for my Mom's Christmas present and one for my brother's birthday present and one for my daughter's Christmas present and one for my best friends collection and one for my other brother's scifi movie collection and one for my grandson's new shelf ( in his bedroom of his very own for the 1st time ) and one for me to loan to my cousin who professes to like Westerns, so I think this will hook him and one to....well, you get the picture.

It'll take a year or better to span out the purchases, but I'm already budgeting.

I have to buy gifts anyway! So...

I have to disagree about the llama. Never saw it. Don't know what some of you are smoking either.

Unless you're talking about the thing behind the guy's head, but that could be anything. A kangaroo, or ostrich, or just a badly lit torso.

Good grief. You do realize that no one thought there ACTUALLY WERE llamas in there, don't you?

I agree on both fronts. On the dvd cover to the naked eye... looks kinda like a llama. Blown up with our superior technology... easily seen as a person. Still funny and I love the big llama face on the new dvd cover someone made! Hillarious!
Careful they spit!

That was 11th Hour who "gave us back the Llama"

Good job, too!

As b!X pointed out, we (or most of us, at least) are well aware that the llama is simply an illusion created by bad photoshopping.

That's not the point. The point is, the llama has as much relevance to the movie as the angry horde, Serenity's lasers, Mal's gun, River's glowing eyes, or any of the other grotesque distortions found on the original DVD art.

The 'llama' came to signify all of the indignities that we have suffered at the hands of corporate marketing.

Universal buddied up to the fandom to enlist our aid, but when Serenity's numbers didn't pan out, what did we get? We got llamas. (And, eventually, threatening letters.)

But you know what? We took that llama, and... well, we took it.

Right, that's the whole idea. When the DVD cover art was released there was just a massive outcry amongst the community. Surely we all remember that nearly everybody (myself included) had their own version of the cover, so bad was Uni's art. It was sort of the last slap in the face after their pre-release manipulation of the fandom, their near-total lack of serious marketing for the film, and their abandonment of the whole thing when the numbers didn't go their way. But like the man says, we took it. We are, after all, Browncoats.
