News reports are coming in saying that unofficially CBS is thinking of reviving Jericho. The reconsideration is occuring because of the "nuts" campaign, and because of downloads of the series' episodes. Incidentally the 50,000 pounds of nuts they have recieved are going to charities and overseas to the troops.

CYBERSNARK

This is big. Like, Serenity big, or Peacekeeper Wars big, or, dare I say it, Star Trek big. This is further evidence of a complete shift in how networks do business, a shift toward a more fan-driven approach to broadcasting (which, despite what we may think, has never been about storytelling, but about advertising).

Now, finally, the marketability of the fiction is beginning to outweigh the importance of the advertising dollars in the eyes of broadcasters (it's always been that way with fans, but now the suits are finally starting to catch on).

What does this mean for our particular fandom? Well, it can't possibly be bad.

In regards to Jericho, I'm glad that they've renewed it, even if it's for a "we'll try it for 7 or 8 eps, if the ratings are great, then we'll do a full season. And if the rating suck, then at least we'll have some closure on the first season." scenario.

I'm not as big a JERICHO fan as I am say a HEROES fan (the show was a bit uneven, IMHO), but I'm glad that the show will continue to live on.

In regard to this leading to a FIREFLY renewal, I'm not holding my breath. JERICHO was able to survive because the cancellation and renewal was about a month apart. But FIREFLY's been off the air for 4 1/2 years. If it hasn't happened yet, it probably won't ever happen. I think SERENITY is the closest we'll see to a renewal of the show.

Sorry for sounding pessimistic, but my romanticism has always had a pragmatic side to it as well. That being said, I'm still waiting on SERENITY 2 or FIREFLY: THE NEXT GENERATION.

"No."
"Have you ever fired ONE gun whilst jumping through the air?"

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well I have been heavily involved with the Save Jericho movement and the Nuts! to CBS campaign and I for one can say that I am estatic that CBS is going to bring Jericho back as a midseason replacement with 8 episodes.

Of course the work of the Jericho fans is not done. We are out there spreading the word because we have to get more people interested and watching the show when it comes back. If ratings are good then CBS will renew for a full 22 episodes.

I agree w/ Cybersnark that this is big. A motivated, well organized campaign by fans is what saved Jericho. It sends a message to networks that fans will rally to save a show and that we want quality television, not mindless reality shows. Let's hope this victory sends ripples throughout the networks.

I happened to see the prez. of CBS on CharlieRose show a year or so back. He (I've forgotten his name) seemed to be a person who thought out of the box with regards to programing. I also have noted Warner brothers doing the straight to DVD progect with JMS & Babylon5.

It really seems as tho CBS & WB are grappling with 'new electronic media' revolution that's occurred in the past few years. FoxTV on the other hand is stuck in the dark ages.

I'm not a big Jericho fan but it's resurrection could be a huge early indicator of a shift in how TV is done. I would suggest we try & get behind it. A change in the business model can only be good for Friefly & Joss.

Not sure if anyone here has checked it out, but it is definitely worth a look. You can check out the episodes online here:
