...only a "kinda" because it didn't make clear where the absolutely blatant references came from.

I work for a major publisher of accountancy and finance textbooks. The folks who write the sample questions like to name the fictitious companies in their scenarios after areas of interest - hence when proofreading, studio checking, typesetting etc. I make mental giggle-lists of references to, e.g., Star Wars, high opera, Red Dwarf, Scottish geography and in one case the small daughters of one of our tax seniors.

Every single question on the actual examination given to at least 20,000 ACCA Audit students worldwide last December was a Firefly reference. (Unfortunately only 31% of the students passed, but you can't have everything. The misspelling of Wash's name is more serious.) Said questions are now being reproduced in a question bank for new students, and shall be for some years.

Link is at http://www.accaglobal.com/students/study_exams/qualifications/acca_cho
ose/professional_scheme/part2/paper2_6/exam_papers/int
- "December 2006 questions" quite low down the right list, or http://www.accaglobal.com/pubs/students/study_exams/qualifications/acc
a_choose/professional_scheme/part2/paper2_6/exam_papers/int/2_6int_2006_dec_q.pdf
if you want to go straight to the PDF question paper.

I love Browncoats in high places.

You are an audit manager in the internal audit department of KLE Co.

Tam Co. is owned and managed by two brothers. Shouldn't that be a brother and sister?

I assume you keep a good Book, Eloisa.

I rather liked the part about Mal & Co developing a mobile phone that could crack law enforcement messages.

What if we pass the test?

That was pretty shiny! I know I'd never be able to pass that test, but it would put a smile on my face, just being able to read the questions.

Maybe that's why so few people passed - they were all jumping up and down in excitement and thinking about exactly what it would mean to be Kaylee's internal auditor.

"Walk away from this table."

I only say that because you piqued my interest. But this is incredible. Whomever wrote the test deserves a high five and a mudder's milk in my opinion.

The author's name is Alan Lewin and his address is c/o ACCA, 29 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3EE. (I found out because I'm considering sending him a fan letter...although I'm sure he'd prefer a mudder's milk.)
