mornin' Imponderables.

*hugs* all around for everything that seems to be going around.

CK - sucks on the lame doc, and hopefully he'll fall off a roller coaster and break every bone in his body. I hate docs with that sort of attitude (though mine toward him isn't much better, but you aren't paying me for my (un)educated opinions). With Ami's various health issues, we have definitely dealt with more than our fair share of them. I agree with you and others that Mayo might be your best bet.

CMH - If you happen to see this, just know that you will be missed by some. You added a bit of color and variety to these boards, and though I rarely agreed with your stance on things, it sometimes helped to see things from a different point of view (hopefully you'll be able to be more active in the 76th, though at the moment things seem like they are going about the same over there).

NEW YORK (AP) -- A peacock that roamed into the parking lot of a Burger King in New York City was beaten by a man who insisted it was a vampire.

Animal control officials in Staten Island say the bird was beaten so fiercely that most of its tail feathers fell out and it had to be euthanized.

The seven-year-old male peacock wandered into the restaurant parking lot and perched on a car hood last week. Charmed employees had been feeding it bread when the man appeared.

A restaurant worker says the man grabbed the bird by the neck, hurled it to the ground and started stomping it. She says when he was asked what he was doing, he responded, "'I'm killing a vampire!"'

Employees called police, but the man ran when he saw them.

Good Morning, RIMG & Penguin! *hugs*

I hope you guys had a good weekend. I'm just checking in on my way over to the various job sites I scour.

RIMG, I agree AND disagree with your comment to CMH. I would have to agree that the best part of this board is meeting 'Coats with different points of view, and totally different lifestyles. I have met wonderful people (such as yourself) from all over the world who have enriched my life in so many ways.
We are humans, and will, on occasion, not see eye to eye. We could post something that disturbs or upsets. However...when posts perpetually irritate and inflame, it becomes a problem. A real problem.

Do I even want to know about what's going on at the 76th?

*waves above her to FlyVote*

Good Morning!

There's lots more for you to read while you wait for the next Jim Butcher. Kim Harrison, Rachel Caine...those two authors have 10 books between them.

Hesitantly, he answered:
Well, Weekends being what they are, I worked at job #2 until I could barely stand. But know that this week held the promise of no work put a hope in my heart, an anticipation in my aches.

Of course finding out that my time off got abridged while I wasn't looking only dimmed things a little. (I'm scheduled for tonight and tomorrow. BUT. Wednesday, Independent's Day, I mean Independence Day, I am Marathoning my way throught the BDS/BDM and that makes it all okay.

I funny how life works, isn't it? Here I want not to work and there you are wanting nothing more. How goes the search? Anymore red hair-loving bWitches (wiccans please ignore) out there?

*Sincerely hopes the rainbows and sunshine come your way. And the lollipops!*

EDIT: Waiter! There's a FlyVote in my soup!

Sorry, dood. I didn't notice your augmentation for a different reason. I didn't think it was new. It was so subtle and so seemless, I thought it was there all the time. Kitty blink is an awesome addition now that I know the skinny. (next in the series of bad jokes for today: KittyBlinkPort Maine? Nah, that's too big a stretch even for me.)

Isn't there something we should be inpondering?

JQ, The job search continues. Discovery Networks HQ is just down the street from me, and I have applied this AM. I was kinda holding off, as I don't want a "Conglom-o" job in cubicle city- but at this point, I don't think I've got a choice.
I know several people who work there- and they like it there- but I am looking for a little more flexibility.

Interestingly, I haven't heard a word from these assclowns. Not one.
For an agency that appeared to be recruiting cannon fodder for the hellish VP, I'm surprised they are letting get away without a whimper.

I like the idea of sending an email with "Pretty Hair, though" in the subject line. I'm not going to spend good hair dye money on those wastes of space.

"Discovery Networks" sounds like an interesting place. Probably a disguise for how dull and drab whatever they do really is. I dunno. I think I'd rather see you in a people job. As you say we can't be too picky but would little flexibility be too much to ask?

Oddly, though, the ascii art was a cheat - very little effort, none artistic. The winking kitty (sounds like the name of a pub, or a sex act) although not exactly Rembrandt, involved effort on my part more than just submitting a picture to a site.

In this short sentence, you have discovered the secret of the ages and why artists bleed. Welcome. This is the tragedy of VanGogh. You've earned your artist merit badge. This is the reason I never became a commercial artist. You cannot create art on the assembly line. Unless you are Bob Ross. And he's dead. So I content myself looking at empty canvases that will never be. Thank God I still have my writing.

I wear only a simple gold band. I stopped wearing my engagement ring years ago. I never take mine off, but Husband does when he is doing installations (doesn't want to catch it on anything) and softball( worried if he broke his finger they'd have to cut it off)
It doesn't bother me at all that he takes it off. I don't think its disrespectful. A gold ring, and a piece of paper filed at the courthouse do not a marriage make.

Thomas and Harry being perceived as having a gay relationship in an earlier book was funny, but when Harry had to play that up when he was in Toe-moss's apartment, that was classic. And again at the "Coiffure Cup". *snort*

Not being married, I'm not sure if I should answer this, but a ring is just that, a ring. It's a symbol, nothing more. True marriage doesn't need a ring to be real. Neither of my parents wear their wedding rings anymore and it doesn't change anything about how they feel or their commitment to one another.

Mavs, I assumed they were waiting for you to take those tests, and I am with Jonny, I'd be glad to help finance a box of dye for them.

Even though Ami and I are back together, I haven't worn my wedding band in a long while. Hers were actually stolen and pawned by some people she was living with. I agree, it's just jewelry. Same with my class ring.

Well today is supposed to be a teacher prep day for summer school, but the copier is down and the color printer is down, and I cannot really accomplish anything so I think I may go home.

While I did write that a ring does not a marriage make, it is also a pretty powerful symbol of Husband's commitment to me. And not just to me...but to us. I don't take mine off because I have a lot fewer chances of catching it on something that could break my finger like Husband does.
After we were separated, he bought me a new ring, as I had never been truly comfortable with the one I had worn previously. I haven't taken it off in 3 years, aside from making the occasional meatloaf.

edit: *waves goodbye to MsG*
See you later, hopefully.

I used to wear mine no matter what, including making meatloaf and doing dishes at Ruby's (which can get nasty, especially where the ramekins [sauce holders] get tossed).

I have changed a lot of the way I think about things, though I am thinking about getting her another for our 5 year anniversary.

Cwap! Is it too late to dissent?

I agree that the material symbo can never match the, er, spiritual(?) reality of what the rings and papers are supposed to represent, but here's the thing. That sounds great in my head. But last year, when I had the surgery that ultimately led me here during my recupe, they wanted to take my ring off. I said "Uh, no. I haven't taken this ring off in--then (on my freakin' anniversary yet!)--17 years. It's not coming off now." "Oh, okay; nurse put some tape on it." (Tape?)

It's symbolism apparently goes very deep with me. Who knew? Who could have known? It's kinda like the flag thing for me. I get the "freedom of expression" flag burning stuff, but to me when I see the flag, it doesn't represent the shitload of inexcusable things this nation has done in the past, might be doing in the present and no doubt will do in the future. I can only remember the blood that purchased/purchases the freedom that flag is supposed to represent.

(I feel like that all the time, it's just happy coincidence that the Fourth is coming up in a couple of days. Just like MsQ and I were in DC when "Independence Day" was released. We just saw the White House! Now it's gone!)

It may be "just jewelry" to a man. But, as a woman - it is NOT "just jewelry".
