I'm a little embarrassed to be asking this question in such a notorious forum, but I keep seeing the acronym BDM being thrown this way and that. I only just came to the conclusion that it was referring to the Serenity movie before I came across a few more acronyms like BDS.

What in the hell does it stand for? Where did it come from? It's driving me crazy!

In my defense, I did just sign up yesterday. Thanks for humouring me in advance.

LEIGHA, it is a question that has been asked many times so don’t feel embarrassed.

Spoilers ahead so if you haven’t seen the Firefly “Safe” episode you may want to wait until you have.

BDM = Big Damn Movie (Serenity). There is a scene near the end of the “Safe “ episode where Serenity’s crew shows up in the nick of time to save Simon and River from being burned alive. In that scene Malcolm Reynolds says, “ Well what do we have here? Looks like we got here just in time. What does that make us?”

In which Zoey replies “Big Damn Heroes sir!”

Then Mal says,” Ain’t we just.”

Anytime you see BDM,BDS,BDH it’s more that likely the poster is referring to Big Damn Movie, Big Damn Sequel or Series, Big Damn Heroes.

That’s about it, Z

Aha, so I was sort of close.

Cheers for the explanation! I was actually just watching that episode yesterday when I started to think about how that might relate to my question.

Your subject line reminds me of Stephen Colbert's asking people "George Bush, Great President, or Greatest President?"

I wonder how much we'd have to pay him to get him to say "Serenity, Great Movie, or the Greatest Movie?" on his show?

"I'm not going to say Serenity is the greatest SciFi movie ever; oh wait yes I am." - Orson Scott Card

If we could just get him to interview Joss Whedon, the line would be almost inevitable.

I wonder if they'd book Joss on the show if they knew about his support for Equality Now? The "male feminist" aspect of that would be a great foil for Colbert's faux reactionary schtick.

I'm pointin' right at it!
