Well not officially...yet. As has been posted on down, Nathan has informed all that he was actually misquoted in the article.

Leaving the link here anyway to keep anyone from wondering what it was really all about in the first place.

Sorry about the misinformation!

I would love to see it come true.

I can just imagine Nathan as a sheriff, walking down a dusty western street, Slanty gun belt, hat pulled low, brown duster of course.

Well... for me to see them on any collaboration is wonderful. Of course I, like all of us want more firefly/Serenity but Ill take what I can get. Anything is better than Desperate Housewives, I'm not watching it, no mater who's in it!(Nathan) I suppose he needs to get payed like we all do, but ill waite for something more dignified!

I'm caving on DS. They're making us wait until frigging 2008 for LOST, VERONICA MARS got cancelled, don't watch BONES anymore, not sure if I'll like MOONLIGHT (former BUFFY/ANGEL producer David Greenwalt is no longer involved), so I'll have the time.

I feel you. But you should give Bones another go, its really good. its funny, and its come a long way from the beginning. I just cant do DH they are all horny zombies, I just cant take it! though if your a male that might be a good thing, but me being female and a bit more mature I just gag on it!

I am most definitely female (and straight!) and I find DH degrading myself.

My mom was interested in it when it first came out and she tried to get me to watch it with her, but I found it nauseating. I then tried to get her into LOST, and she told me she wasn't interested (I think I hurt her feelings because I wasn't interested in DH and that's why she said that). Later on she caved when I brought over the dvds of Season 1, and we watched like 12 of them one day and 12 the next, because she didn't want it to end. She never got into DH after the first ep. or two, but she's still an avid LOST fan! Anyway, thought that was funny.

I regretted giving up BONES. But now I'm lost and don't remember where I left off to catch up on the reruns.

Me too! I've been thinking for some time that someone needs to put him in a Western... who better than Joss?
And who's to say that they can't have him wearing a brown coat... you know- his very own deerhide, buckled long brown coat?

I hear you, DogJoy...but DH is the pathway to Nathan's career really taking off. It's a top 10 show, likely to be on tv for a long time more and in no fear of being cancelled. Mainstream attention will bring directors and producers calling his agent. Nathan working more means Nathan able to say more about what he'd like to be in. It's all good. I'm going to suffer thru DH.
With Nathan on it, it might be funnier.

I'm suffering withdrawals from BSG, SG-1 and Heroes. It'll be nice when they're all back.
I'm going to watch all the new genre series next fall. The more support genre shows get, the more they'll make. I'm going to give Bones a try too. Can't all of us who haven't seen all the eps of Bones catch up with it on the F*x site where they stream their shows?
Just went and checked and their not showing any eps of Bones. If I find out where they're showing them, I'll come back and post.

well yes, two characters did try to get married, but at the end they just ran off together, but still, the two main characters the guy from Angle, cant remember his name and the doctor (Bones) are still the same so I think it will be easy to get into it, and remember reruns, and also the teacher from Serenity is the boss now, no biggie though getting into it.

Now that Joss and Nathan are talking, do you think there is any chance for Serenity2? Just look how long it took for another X Files, I hope we don't have to Waite years and years, but I think we will, if ever, any thoughts on this? All the actors are moving on as well they should, but its bad for us that want a resurrection not an end!

We've all talked about this and wondered about it for nearly two years.
The ideas on this run the gamut from Bix who will tell you absolutely that Firefly/Serenity for all intents and purposes is dead, to some of us here who are holding out to see which way the wind blows.

I believe that there is no chance that Firefly will be revived, unless it's a story with different actors, different ship, same 'Verse.
Maybe some guest star turns from our BDH's ala Richard Hatch on BSG. And 10-20 years from now.

However, I'm still holding out for a BDSequel.
Maybe not in theaters, maybe on the web, maybe direct to DVD. I'm holdin' til Mal gets back.

The actors working is good...they need to, it's exposure and they can work their schedules around to do another movie. If Joss makes another movie.

I'm perfectly happy waiting. Well, not perfectly happy... I'm more impatient than that, but I'm happy here... that's what counts.

I think there is a critical window for a TV series being revived, and I think that time has passed. It is too much of a commitment in time to ask of all the members of the cast and production team now that they are trying to go on to other projects, as their livelihood demands.

A theatrical sequel is probably out of the question, also, since as I understand it the original BDM did not do as well as we all could have hoped. The DVD sales were mind-blowing, from what I hear, but unless I misunderstand the way Hollywood gauges success, you can sell all the DVDs you want and as far as they are concerned it isn't worth a whit if you didn't put butts in the seats to start with.

I am also not looking for a direct to DVD sequel release. While some of the cast of Firefly were unknowns, a goodly number were folk who have never exactly had a hard time finding work, or at least who haven't since then. In my mind, direct to DVD releases are bad for an actor's credibility, so unless it is a new story with a new ship (or possibly the same ship, showing the continuing tale of Serenity after Mal marries Inara and they settle down someplace to scream at each other and raise babies, and passes the boat he loves on to a new captain [Zoe?], even though it pains him, symbolically showing that he is now free of the Battle of Serenity Valley once and for all...), I'm not holding out for a direct to DVD tale, and in those circumstances, I'm not sure I would want one. It just wouldn't be the same.

Where our last, best hope lies, I think, is a Sci-Fi channel mini-series. Sci-Fi loves mini-series in general, even when they seem to have to organize and drive the project themselves. There is also a precedent for them being involved in such projects in response to fan outcry, in the Farscape scenario. I believe Sci-Fi still has the broadcast rights for the Firefly episodes, and as long as they are holding on to those, there is a hope to get flyin' again. Realistically, sci-fi channel is where we hang those hopes we all have.

All of us Browncoats, old and new, though, need to be mighty careful what we wish for. I was, and am, a huge fan of Babylon 5, and I was sorry to see it go. But the continuation in "Crusade" was nowhere near up to the quality I'd expected of B5, and even though the last episode of it had some promise, I'm not sure I'd have been happy with it in the long run. Then the "Legend of the Rangers" they did on Sci-Fi a few years back was just an absolute joke. It was so ridiculous, I was laughing too hard to realize the pain of the final death rattle of my then-favorite series until well after it was over. This all, of course, is to say nothing of the way many Star Wars fans must feel about what USED TO BE their favorite movies before Eps 1,2 & 3 came out and turned Darth Vader from an overwhelming force of brutality into a whiny drama queen. Painful as it is to live with only 14 episodes and a BDM, I'd keep it that way if it meant sacrificing the quality and risking marring the brilliance of what we already have.

Still, when Peacekeeper Wars came on to follow up Farscape, it was so awesome it made my brain hurt. At the cost, I wasn't even going to buy Farscape on DVD (Anybody know why those were always so much more expensive than every other series?), but PW was so brain-meltingly great that I had to have it, and couln't bear not to own the 40% or so of the episodes of Farscape that were at that level, so now I have the whole series. So as I said, we do have a place to hang our hopes. Mine are cautious... I've been tore up pretty good in similar situations past...

Nathan has clarified on his myspace blog that this western with Joss was a misquote on IGN.com.

www.myspace.com/nathanfillion

That being said, you may be right, SBWink.
It is hard to think of the 'Verse being carried forward in the "Star Wars" style. I'd not want that to happen to my beloved 'Verse.
*shudder*

And I know that in the past actors didn't want to do DirecttoDVD movies, it was a sign their career was in trouble. But... with the Bablylon5 movie and the SG-1 movie coming and being assessed by everyone, and with the comment made by Joss yesterday at ComicCon that DtoDVD was a way for artists to see their work done without interference by the studio ( I'm paraphrasing)-- I'm still holding out hope that it might happen.
A mini series would be nice... uber nice.
I'd settle for that too.

With Joss not saying much about FF/S besides the fact that they made the Collector's Edition because the DVD's of Serenity sold so well I think we're still in waiting mode. I also think that how the Collector's Edition sells will be very important. There are a lot of oldtimers who think I'm being too hopeful and foolish to suggest that, but what can it hurt for the CE to sell well? Nothing... in fact it may help. This may be the final battle in our Serenity Valley, and it's outcome may win or lose the war.

( Yikes, that does sound dramatic, huh? Well, I didn't mean for it to be that overwrought, but I still believe this is our last chance. )

I completely agree that this is our last chance for a "live" continuation of the verse. I would have no problem with a direct to DVD movie or a mini-series on Sci-Fi. Those venues don't have the stain that the've had in the past and are judging by falling ticket sales will probably be the wave of the future.

However, I truly believe the verse will continue in one form or another. If Joss has a story to tell he WILL find a way to tell it. Most likely through comics or novels.

Hopefully you guys have seen Nathan Fillion's response to this on his blog -- he was misquoted by the reporter, and neither he nor Joss are working on said project. Sighs of disappointment. But it is kind of Fillion to squash the rumor quickly and thoroughly.

I love novels (have a passel of 'em, some as I've even read!) and I know lots of Joss fans who are big into comics. The problem, I think, is that a big part of the genius is in the dialogue, and Joss's dialogue style is very delivery-dependent. I just don't think reading it would be the same. Still, it would be SOMETHING, and if it was good quality, I would take it. (I've been trying to break into the novel biz... I give myself a momentary flight of fanciful imaginings that I might be the novelist to pen one of Joss's outlines one day... Then I wake up, and it's just the flourescent lights giving me a headache and the cubicle walls closing in on me again. Time to close my eyes once more and sink back into the Black.)

I like comics, but I like novels better. I'd settle for that too.

I had another thought--an animated movie with the BDH voicing their characters--it eliminates huge budgets and complicated special effects.

It would indeed. Although animated isn't my favorite, the BDH's have had lots of experience doing voice work. That might work well.

I'm still holding out for a miniseries on Skiffy or a directtoDVD movie. There's a scant possibility of a feature film too, but it's so scant I can't see it any more.

All in all, if we never get anything else, we did get what we have, and that's a wonderment in itself and I love it. It also brought me here and I'd not trade what I've found being a Browncoat for anything.

Let's go one step further, CGI animation like the Final Fantasy movie, that would be the only way of getting near to perfect images of our BDH's, and with the actors voicing them first they can film them during the voicing sequences, get their little quirks down and put them in the movie. May come a time, possibly, that even an actor will be obsolete, replaced with an animation. Too bad all you 3rd class mediocore over priced acting hacks....

Um, Serenity.... CGI.
