Could anyone live on Miranda after the packs inccident, or would they eventually stop doing well everything and die?

Or maybe become a reever themselves?

We would have to assume the Pax has dissipated and degraded to the point there is none of it left. Otherwise our BDMs would have had it in their systems. Can you imagine Jayne under Pax?
So Miranda should be livable once again. Would it make an episode in a new Firefly? Visiting after recolonization? Mal would go there, a place where great grief once reigned but is now peaceful.

America loves a winner!

Sure seeme like it was safe to live there. Although, it could be that the more time folks spent the, the Pax might still could build up in a person ? Maybe not.

One thing that always bugged about how Kaylee, in one sentence asks how could there be a whole planet that no one knows anyhting about, then almost her next comment is, 'oh yeah, there was call for workers on a new planet named Miranda.' So, which is it ? They had been talking about Miranda since River's bar fight, and it doesn't click to anyone's mind that the PLANET was named Miranda ?

That bugged me almost as much as when the Operative runs Mal through w/ his sword, and then Mal simply pulls it out and continues fighting, hardly affected.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I don't remember that.
When did that happen?
I remember he tried twice to run Mal through, but never actually did....once w/Inara at the training house, but her incense/bomb went off, and once at the end of their fight at Mr. Universe's backup transmitter, but Mal sidestepped him, and elbowed him in the throat. Have I seen this movie 2 dozen times and missed Mal pulling a sword out of himself?

As far as Miranda, yes there are many questions of logic concerning :
a) it's secrecy, but still in Serenity's Shuttle's database, and Wash & Zoe know about Reavers hanging in that space.
b) 30 million dead, and no outraged relatives in the core?
c) 2 un-related vehicles with markings of C-57D....a nice reference to Forbidden Planet...but 2 of them?
d) Why wouldn't the Alliance simply have sent in their space armada years ago to wipe out all the Reaver ships?
e) Where did the Reavers even get their fleet of ships? Original transport ships for the settlers would not have had the weapons their ships had. As mutated, deranged, de-evolving zombies how could they operate them?, who was in command & how could that work?
f) When the first wave was sent in reporting on conditions on Miranda, why didn't the Alliance simply go there and nuke the whole place into dust?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I agree w/ AURaptor. It seems safe enough now, but prolonged exposure might be something different. No way to tell for sure at this point.

Of course there are still those Reavers hanging out in the area, because I imagine not all of them died fighting the Alliance and surely some were out hunting when Serenity led them on that merry chase.

In the pre-release screening I saw on 5/5/05 it was very apparent that the sword went completely through Mal's side, then he pulled it out and continued fighting. It's at the point when the Operative asks him "Do you know what your sin is?" and Mal's reply, after pulling the sword out, "I'm a fan of all seven, but I'm gonna have to go with wrath."
I'm pretty sure it is in the first dvd commentary that Joss said there were too many complaints that it seemed he was too graphic there, and that it was a wound Mal shouldn't have been able to shrug off so casually, so he edited the scene. You can still see Mal's action as he is pulling the sword out, but the actual impalement and removal is off-screen.

There were calls for workers for Miranda, but the oficial line was that the planet was "black rock" because the terraforming didnt take hold.

I think.

Was it always there, or was it added by River?

b) 30 million dead, and no outraged relatives in the core?

Who knows whether there were or not? I think the Alliance would be able to sufficiently cover it up. How much interplanetary travel is there anyway? Or would people be more likely to settle with their families in the first place?

c) 2 un-related vehicles with markings of C-57D....a nice reference to Forbidden Planet...but 2 of them?

Yeah - I wondered that too.

d) Why wouldn't the Alliance simply have sent in their space armada years ago to wipe out all the Reaver ships?

To what purpose? To acknowledge them would probably lead to questions being asked. Besides, the Reavers offer a decent way to keep people away from Miranda, and don't pose a threat to the core planets (yet).

Quote:

e) Where did the Reavers even get their fleet of ships? Original transport ships for the settlers would not have had the weapons their ships had.

Piracy, I would imagine. And then they "reaverise" their ships with whatever weaponry available. Note that there didn't seem to be a huge amount of weaponry fired in the film from the ships.

They're not zombies, and I'm not sure they're mutated or de-evolving either. They are agressive to an extreme, but that doesn't mean they cannot function (to an extent) in a "normal" way.

Did they ever get the wave? How much was known? Was it too late already? Besides, what purpose would it serve, given that everyone was already dead (or a reaver)?

Just my $0.02 as a Devil's Advocate ;)

It bugs me more when Zoe asks Inara if she knows anything about Miranda and Inara replies "what's that?" Who would think a name like Miranda is a what instead of a who? Until I find out Inara knew about the whole thing from the beginning and slipped up (which I'd still find unlikely) I'm going to go ahead and say that's bad dialog.

Its because Mal has super powers....

Joke, when you have the commentary on Joss said that he realized that he had just completly ran Mal through, and thats why he had the stabbing pretty much out of the scene. He wanted it to kinda seem like oh well its really just a flesh wound, which for Mal, being run through is pretty much a flesh wound. Cause he's a badass

Also remeber that the reason they sent the crew (you know the group that the lady was apart of that was on the disc that Mal broadcasted)was to find out what happened. Almost refering to as if they lost contact with Miranda.

I think they didnt nuke the planet or take any action what-so-ever was because parliment was trying to keep a tight lid on the whole matter. Kinda like the less people that know about it the better. Not even the operative knew about Miranda, ie:what happened there, other then the fact that it was a black rock. When and if parliment knew, which i think they did, what happened on Miranda, they simply just covered the whole thing up.

I remember Joss saying something -in a commentary or something I don't know what- about his hating detective novels that have something with a person's name (like a ship named Beatrice or something) and having it turn out to be a thing after all, and not a person, so he put that line there so he isn't deliberatly leading people to think that Miranda's a person.

I think that it was a top of the head, didn't really think about it thing when Kaylee said that first line. Then, she started thinking about it, and recalled the call for Miranda workers. But it is still kinda weird.
