REAVERMAN

This is a thread for discussing and refining any ideas we have for bringing Firefly back. If anyone has a decent idea, don't hesitate to post it.

Now, to start it off, my idea (probably not original, but I don't think it's been tried): raise money to buy the rights to the show from Fox through a fan organization (the browncoats), then turn the rights over to, say, the Sci-Fi Channel (with the crap they've been putting out lately, they need a show like Firefly) or some other network that's interested. Now, I have no idea how much the rights would cost, or how interested the other networks would be, but I think it's worth a shot.

What does everyone else think?

"I refuse to submit,
To the god you say is kind.
I know what's right, and it is time,
It's time to fight, and free our minds!

Our spirits were forged in snow and ice,
To bend like steel forged over fire.
We were not made to bend like reed,
Or to turn the other cheek!"

Perhaps a Con run by Browncoats with the procedes put into a "Take the show back" fund?

I know what you mean Reaverman...Sci Fi shows a lot of crap these days like wrestling. WTF? its' neither Sci Fi, Fantasy or Horror.

Sounds good in principle , but it won't work...Show biz doesn't work that way , and it has been suggested before , even sort of tried...

First , greedy bastards at Fox would never give up the rights within a timeframe in which we could raise the coin...Just surmounting the myriad potential legal issues would eat up every bit we could raise...And someone would have to hold all the coin in an escrow account , and make provision to disburse the account in the event of our failed bid...

'Skiffy' is too iffy...We need to think FRANCHISE ! Hollywood loves a franchise...Right now we have to focus on the BDM Collector's Edition , because that's our best affirmed hope for more MOVIES .

Still , I'd favor a miniseries on a quality pay-cable net like HBO , because it has a much broader demographic reach than Sci-Fi . And , even that seems unlikely for now...What we really need is a corporate angel , like Jeff Bezos at Amazon
(he's a Billionaire!) , with a vested interest in more Firefly , to pick up our cause...

Joss the Boss says we have a realistic opportunity with moving a lot of copies of the Collector's Edition...He's planned the work , we just have to work the plan...

Good of you to have the enthusiasm to suggest something...Ideas is Nice !

i am always in favour of celebrating what we have - and just letting it build and build (which it IS doing!)

i have an idea that reflects that- but may not be possible...

i wonder if we could have...
some sort of online well promoted virtual convention???

an event where fan films, fic, flics, images and posts and blogs get screened and swapped from site to site?? (including whedonesque.com?? -
can'tstopthesignal.co.uk / sernitythemovie.com / stillflying.net / numerous individual fan sites...etc)

it may have happened already ? did i miss it??

stay shiny!

You got it right Out2theblack...

no way Fox is lettin got for the FF rights cheaply.

FF, like the original Star Trek series, might be resurrected in other mediums... movies, games, mini series, etc., before it can offically be brought back to tv. Unfortuantly by then all the original cast may have moved on to bigger things resulting in any new series becoming a Firefly the Next Generation

I really think we need another just random fan convention - not planned by any big companies that could screw us over but by the true browncoats

How will a random fan convention convince a studio to greenlight more Firefly/Serenity?

FYI, calling FOX "bastards" only shows that you don't actually understand what happened. FOX the network cancelled Firefly. But FOX the production people made it, liked it, and continue to do what they can to help out the property.

Call the network executives bastards. But don't lump in the production people.

Don't squat with your spurs on.

Kinda late. The cast is spread to the four winds.

Besides SciFi is becoming as bad as FUX, running with the WWE, Ghosthunters, and Painkiller Jane while canceling interesting stuff like The Dresden Files.

Did you listen to the Cast Commentary on the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD? Joss and the cast love Firefly/Serenity more than we do. And they love working together. Joss and the actors want to tell more stories in the 'verse.

We got lots of options that didn't exist before.

We got straight to DVD movies/episodes like Bablyon Five/Battlestar Galactica Pegusus/StarGate: SG1

We got webepisodes like Farscape.

We got Sci Fi/USA made for TV movies. USA just bought the rights to air Firefly (outbid Sci-Fi) and USA already has the rights to show Serenity.

Joss has told us where our hope lies.

Remember hope for more Firefly/Serenity rests with the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD
(Release date: 8/21/2007)

Universal or somebody else is going to be able to figure out a budget based on the sales of the Collector's Edition. Because they will be able to count on at least that much with something TOTALLY new.

right now Serenity Special edition DVD is number 7 on Amazon DVD best seller's list. This is what counts, $ale$, and will bring back FF in some form. Joss got his, i got mine, go get yours

Actually I don't see the cast as spread to the four winds. Rather, they continue to work and are becoming much more well known. This will actually help encourage the continuation of Firefly/Serenity. Studios like it when the actors are known and have a following... they become more bankable!

The cast still would love to work together... and, as Joss said and they agreed, they were born to play their roles. Joss has never lost his love for the 'Verse and still has so many more stories to tell... and he wants to tell them.

The mission now is to find ways, all kinds of ways, to bring positive attention to the Serenity C.E. DVD. If Joss himself said that Universal can be persuaded to greenlight more Serenity if the sales are strong, then believe what he says. He wouldn't make a statement like that unless there was truth to it.

Yeah, some form. We want Serenity/Firefly to continue with actors. If sales are good enough, that will happen. Otherwise, we will get a comic book series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 and 9 and Angel season 6. Instead, right now, we are getting another 3-issue comic book series Serenity: Better Days late winter 2007.

Oh, yeah, Joss is going to do a Ripper movie for the BBC. Ripper is Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

So BBC is another contender too. Look at the great Dr. Who stuff they put out.

Yeah, what 11thHour said!

The more people see of our Big Darn Heroes work, the more they want to see of their work...which leads them back to Firefly/Serenity.

We got Desperate Housewives with Nathan Fillion
You know he is gonna at least be shirtless some of the time. And he wrote in his blog that he has been getting in shape for those desperate housewives.

The Sarah Conners Chronicles with Summer Glau
She is the terminator.

Chuck with Adam Baldwin

Stargate: Atlantis with Jewel Staite
She is the doctor on the show.

Stargate: SG1 Straight to DVD with Morena Barrican

I remember reading a post somewhere of a new Firefly fan who found Firefly/Serenity because SLiTHER Director James Gunn mentioned it on the DVD extras as a joke. "They made me hire Nathan because of Firefly." One line in the DVD extras.

This is gonna happen people!

I doubt SciFi will be involved. On the otherhand USA is still running Monk, if they have the rights then there may be some hope. In the meantime I'll be looking foward to the comic series you mentioned.
