What it looks like to me is that TG Freight is PART of the traders guild as a legal freight company. Not THE traders guild. If you own a freight company then it is probably a good idea that you belong to the union, like electricians belong to the Electrical Union and metal workers belong to the Sheet Metal Workers Union. So it probably is Badger's front company for his more nefarious schemes.

In the Firefly series TG Freight was shown to be Badger's front company.

In the two-part Serenity pilot (and I think in Shindig) when Mal is in Badger's Office, there are TG Freight signs around.

The Trader's Guild should be a seperate thing from Badger's TG Freight front company in my opinion. Because the ship's papers are extrapolated-expanded-universe type info, there is always the possibility of different interpretations.

Case in point would be two items from the QMx released travel posters, done by Adam Levermore-Rich.
The original posters included one for:
LONDINUM
the spelling in the original script and the Official Companion Vol.I.
Nathan said the planet's name as "Londinium" in the pilot and there was discussion as to whether he had just screwed up.
When the posters were released with "LONDINUM" Joss got on Whedonesque and said they were cool but should have read "Londinium", which was how Nathan said it.
So QMx went back and changed the production posters to read:
LONDINIUM.

Just as a note, I always assumed Jayne's orange T-shirt with the "28" and "Fighting Elves" in Chinese on it was a military unit.
But ALR made them a sports team on his Persephone poster.
Hmmm...I can't decide if I like that better or not?
