GILEAD

I was reading the Firefly for Firefighters thread (great idea), and I got thinking about how I became a browncoat.

My library rocks. It's a browncoat-making machine. Yours could be too.

I live in a town of 140,000. Our library gets a lot of popular support and even more use. It contains:

3 copies of the complete series
5 copies of Serenity
Done the Impossible
Visual Companion
Finding Serenity
Those Left Behind

Clearly, a crafty and tireless Browncoat staffer lurks in the stacks.

The series and the movie have fairly long reservation lists. Apparently, dozens of Browncoats, myself included, have been generated just this summer (while I waited for them to get done and return the copies). I only just managed to get the 4th Disc a few days ago. Firefly was an impulse grab for me, to pad some Galactica and Farscape DVDs. Now, I'm a Browncoat and planning to buy my own copies.

Are young seeing where this is going?

My library has a feature on its website to request that it purchase new Books/CDs/DVDs. Does yours? If so, and if it does not already stock Firefly/Serenity, get over there and request it. Get others to request it, too, so your library will consider buying multiple copies.

1) That generates institutional sales, encouraging those-on-high to make sequels
2) It also generates flans
3) Flans generate more sales, further encouraging those-on-high to make sequels

If all else fails, consider taking the Firefighters approach. Buy and donate a copy/copies of the series, the movie, and supporting media to your local library.

Armies of future Browncoats will thank you for it.

To that Browncoat, laboring in obscurity, that stocked my library so amazingly well that I literally tripped over Firefly, my eternal thanks.

The city(Chester,England) I live in has a population of about 130,000 and it's library only has Serenity on DVD and the Serenity Novelization, though every time I go there about half the time the DVD is out on loan.

Great idea about suggesting the library should get certain books, etc, unfortunately my library used to do that but not anymore.

EVERY LITTLE HELPS TO SPREAD THE WORD

Gilead - First of all, welcome to this wonderful site! I see from your sign-in number you are relatively new. It is always great to meet new Browncoats!

We have actually been discussing library donations for quite some time, on this thread here:
http://fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=20&t=25523
in the guerilla marketing section.

This is how I recruit. I buy the box set and the movie and send them to libraries all over Maryland. Just read my caveat in the previous thread. You have to make sure they want the donation first. Some libraries sell all donations to raise money to buy other things.

But requesting it is a fantastic idea. I had never thought of that angle before!

*11th Hour/Haken, if you are reading this, can you reclassify this thread to the guerilla marketing area?
