DERANGEDMILK

Alright. Here comes my "Thats no moon. Thats a space station" speech.

This isn't the kind of terra-forming they are talking about in Firefly and Serenity. Don't get me wrong, I found the articles highly interesting but the type of terra-forming discussed here is the actual development of planets from cosmic particles swirling around stars. The type of terra-forming that is seen in the BDM is when humans change the atmosphere of an already existing planet to suit human life. This is kind of like whats happening with global warming right now, except being done intentionally. For example, Venus is a planet that has an atmosphere filled with greenhouse gases that drap in the heat, making its surface a boiling, hostile, uninhabitable environment. However, if we put factories done (such as the one seen floating on a giant ocean in the beginning of the BDM that converted some of those greenhouse gases into say, oxygen, in theory we could create a habitable environment on the surface of Venus. The same could be done with Mars, in theory. In that breif scene in the BDM, that factory is liked putting out greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane in a deliberate attempt to create a global warming effect. If humans could lower the temperature of that planet that appears to be covered with water, some of the water would freeze, the oceans would contract and land masses would become visible. Pretty shiny stuff if you ask me.

That terraforming thingy in the BDM reminded me of the terraforming apparatus seen in Aliens in 1986.
I believe the Company Executive described it as a "shake & bake" operation.

lol. xie xie anyway. actually, i'de be happy with a fruity oaty bar or even protein cake. haha.

btw, thanks derangedmilk for your scientific explanation! am totally clueless about things science and I should probably ask my younger brother (who's in 6th grade) about these things. still, aint it shiny that there are other places out there? I've always thought having 9 planets is way too measly. (and they even demoted pluto...tsk tsk.)

haha. I don't know what I'm saying. I never know what I'm saying...
