We don't know details about the movie, but rumor is that Joss Whedon has finished writing the script and it's supposed to start production some time early in 2004. He's being very tight lipped cuz he doesn't wanna jinx it, but while we wait for the actual film, I don't see what harm there'd be in discussing what would, for we fans, be required for a motion picture of our beloved Firefly.

1. All nine performers must return. Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Ron Glass. I've contemplated the alternative scenarios.
2. Reavers should be involved.
3. The original Firefly set must be restored and remain as close to how it was during the television series.
4. One of the following baddies should at least make a cameo appearance:
a. Niska
b. Badger
c. Early
d. Saffron
5. The Tam siblings versus Blue Sun. That's at least as important as the Reaver thing.
6. Kaylee should have a scene in which she talks to Serenity.
7. Jayne should have a scene in which he talks to Vera.
8. Wash has to flip those three switches over his right shoulder at least once in full view of the camera.
9. Kaylee and Simon must kiss at least once before he puts his foot in his mouth again.
10. Zoe must get to beat the ever lovin' crap outta somethin' big and mean.
11. River has to say something particularly creepy and disturbing that makes everyone uncomfortable.
12. Under no circumstances should Serenity ever get blown up or damaged beyond repair. That's just too easy a plot device for motion pictures.
13. Everything else outside Serenity should blow up a lot. Preferably while neato music is playing.
14. We gotta getta figure out just whut the heck Book is or was because he obviously isn't just a priest.
15. Inara and Malcolm need to argue at least once.

There. That's all the requirements I can think of at the moment. What are yours?

RIV

I could not agree more. All those things must happen, but my top ten are:

1.Blue Sun thing must be dealt with. River should be involved with that.
2.Simon and Kaylee must kiss.
3.Something about Book must be addressed.
4.Wash must do the three switches
5.Mal and Inara have to address their attraction.
6.Reavers must be involved.
7.There must be a scene where they all sit at that table.
8.A Zoe/Wash moment.
9.Jayne redeems himself in the eyes of the Tams by saving them.
10.River must say something uber creepy, but that totally makes sence later.

NOOCYTE

All of the above.

Also, I noticed in the DVD commentaries that Joss became especially skittish when the subject of Inara's back-story came up. This leads me to suspect STRONGLY that this story features at least somewhat prominently in the script for the film (for the record: the "Junkie" thing was clearly a joke by Nathan. Also, I would not put it past Joss to intentionally misdirect us by insisting that the needle is not for suicide purposes [still my belief]. He's a bit of a rascal, that one!). This would make sense, since the exposition of this would make for a dandy lead-in to a deepening of the Mal and Inara characters, possibly preparatory to some kind of catharsis on the bubbling sexual tension front.

As for Blue Sun, I can not imagine this arc not being introduced and clarified to some extent. However, I don't see it being completely resolved, given Joss' Sheherazade-esque penchant for leaving some narrative hook embedded in even the most otherwise-satisfied palate. And anything which lends itself to a sequel/series is all to the good, IMO.

Keep flyin' (You can't take my DVDs...)

TALLGUY

What absolutely HAS to be in the movie?

Serenity. That's all.

Ok, maybe the three switches.

And it'd be shiny if the guys got "payback butt" for Trash. PLEASE let it be Zoe.

But seriously, Serenity and Mal.

Hey, I learned my lesson when I said Buffy couldn't be any good without Donald Sutherland. If (heaven forbid) the cast has the bus from Speed dropped on them, Joss will make our girl fly.

(Of course the new guy would have to find his OWN gorram switches.)

Oh, and the whole River thing? Neeeeever going to be "resolved". It'll keep going and going and going...

1. Alan and his dinosaurs.
2. Inara and her lesbian client.
3. A not-so-subtle reference to FOX canceling the show. Something like "We'd be all rich-like if Joe FOX hadn't canceled that last job."
4. Saffron. Saffron. Saffron. (And two more times for her...um...assets).
5. Nathan's ass.
6. Jayne going to his bunk.
7. Absolutely no sound in space.
8. A visual tour of what their Earth looks like.
9. An exploration of Book's past.
10. Spike.

how 'bout some actual asian actors in speaking roles?

Book's past (flashbacks to when he was Mal's age)

River's connections to the Reavers (other than her name as pronounced by a frenchman)

Mal being very, very mean (a la telling Simon that Kaylee's dead)

Zoe taking out the trash (and I don't mean domestic duties)

More info about the Gaisha/temple priestess thing

I don't think Jayne is the redeamable type, but it would be cool to see him not betray someone when he had a golden opportunity and then wonder why he was such a "gorram idiot" afterward (we love Jayne!)

Plenty of almighty River-fu

And Kaylee eatin' a strawberry or three (I'll be in my bunk)

HKCavalier

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

That always puzzled me about the show. You'd think that some of the Alliance big shots or Inara's rich clients would have been played by Asians, since China and the US were the superpowers who oversaw the colonization of these planets.

Simon and River's last name, Tam, is Chinese, I believe. It would have been cool if they had both been played by Asians.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I would say that this is what I would like to see in the movie (some of which may have been listed above):

1)All of the cast members back
2)Serenity looking exactly as she did in the series
3)Mal & Inara kiss
4)Some clues to Book's past
5)Wash playing w/ his dinos
6)Jane should get to talk to & fire Vera
7)Saffron makes an appearance
8)Either Badger or Niska appear as the nemesis
9)See one of those Alliance cruisers blow up
10)See Zoe kick the crap out of someone
11)Delve a bit into what the Blue Hands did to River
12)Have Joss and Tim do a cameo
13)See a shout out to the fans in the credits!

SAINT JAYNE

My needs are few - I like surprises.

1) Inara. Why did she leave the temple, and what is that syringe?

2) Book. River reading his thoughts in Objects in Space left me very curious.

3) River. I agree she'll never be fully explained, but I would like to see her reach a climax of weirdness.

4) Don't answer all the questions! Fuel my fantasy of Firefly returning to TV/DVD someday!

Ditto on everything. How about one of Jayne's hats? Don't we need those? And definently Vera. Everything anyone has said already, and whatever else.

I don't need much. Would like to see one of the mysteries figure as the main plot, and have it relatively resolved: Who's Book? What's with Inara? What do they want River for?

You could open up any of those and still leave more to play with. Like, revealing that River is designed to be a psychic assassin wouldn't eliminate her need to be on the run, wouldn't fix her condition, wouldn't put any of her shipmates at ease. Revealing Book as Gen. Wilkins or that Inara's dying might alter how they relate to shipmates, but then, it could be revealed to the audience without revealing it to the other characters. I just wanna see some small payoff, something that makes the movie a seminal event rather than just a two-hour episode.

Or was I the only one who was pissed off when the X-Files movie essentially gave us NOTHING?

Well, maybe not a must-have, but a oh-damn-it-would-be-so-cool-to-have..

River putting the absolute and total pyschic-psycho gone-four-plus SMACKDOWN on someone, preferably a pair of them blue-handed freaks.

Doesn't even have to explain nothing, they reach for the rod, she goes total carnage, everybody runs - or something like that.

I'd just love to see Riv get a little of her own payback on the folks involved in messin her up.

I completely agree with number 10 there. He could play some completly evil and yet totally sexy vamp...I mean...bad guy...riiight...

I think the movie should basically answer some of the major questions the show brought up but not all of them because if the movie's a hit, a continuation of the series won't be far behind. The movie should ask questions of it's own though. That way, even if we don't get the series right away, there's always room for a sequel.

Most importantly, I think the show/movie just wouldn't be the same if we didn't get the same cast back. There's just some deliveries that couldn't be pulled off by anyone else except this cast. Period...the end.

No spike.

While I have to admit, it would be kinda neat to think that this and buffy/angel all happen in the same universe, I think it would just kill the buzz to add a vampire to this show.

James Marsters in the movie, sure. A joke or two suggesting connections to Buffy (Gen. Richard Wilkins) without really giving us, you know, facial prosthetics, sure. But vampires? No way.

Unless it turns out River is the Chosen One of her generation ...

heh.

Ok, this one doesn't have to be in the movie, but it would be cool to see a colonial Viper flying by some window outside.

Oh and the movie shouldn't be short. It should be at least 3 hours, and this would probably *still* seem short.

how aout a list of things I want to see in the movie :)

1) Simon + Kaylee just because it has to happen :)

2) Jayne going to his bunk after Inara meets another female client.

3) Mal + Inara "sharing"

4) River killing someone with her mind.

5) River in some strange position doing something wierd (aka listening to conversation while suspended on the crosswalk / laying on the coffin)

6) Wash saving Zoe from danger & playing with the dinosaurs.

7) Showing what REALLY is down those steps in the front of the cockpit.

8) The crew making tons of money ;)

b) mind reading

I think that Inara is the only expedible character. She is not integral to the business dealings of the crew, and her departure has already been set up in the series. I wouldn't blink an eye if she wasn't in the film.

That being said...I would prefer that all nine of them return.

its scary to think of the movie being any way other than the show was shot... all cast members have to be there!! ALL!!!! oh, and i need a supporting roll for myself:) but seriously...
1. we definately need mal darker
2. none of the core cast can die, they can get shot and hurt though(just like every episode)
3. it can still be dark and funny at the same time (check out a pt anderson film or any other joss whedon project for that matter).
4. hey! now we can have actual cussing in english and real nudity!
5. the bounty hunter from objects in space should float by the ship at least once.... maybe twice...
6. it should have even more abstract and odd comments from everyone
7. it should lead to 5 more seasons on tv
8. book should have to kill someone (DRAMA people!!)

thats all i have for now, but i got the wheels turning and im sure ill have more
