Why is it that we never here anything about Gina on the Threads? She doesn't go to the Cons and the other actors rarely if ever mention her, why? dos any one know if they had a falling out? Personally there would be no firefly, Serenity without her, So... whats up with that?

I actually photoshopped her as Wonder Woman a while back.

As far as why she's not at the conventions and such, I really couldn't say.

That's a good question. I think Gina is great. She did a stint on 24 that was fantastic! Maybe she's like (and I'm showing my age here) David Cassidy or Susan Dey. They got their big breaks on The Partridge Family, but won't have anything to do with it any more. Same with Ginger from Gilligan's Island. She never participated in the cult activities that followed the show.

Haven't you killed me enough for one day?

I think Right now ((May Be Wrong)) She's Kinda Pregnant, and I think that may be her main focus right now ((I'm a guy, so I don't know quite how demanding that is, but I'd assume it takes precedence to things like working if you're a successful actress with a successful actor husband.))

That's my theory anyway. And I agree that without her brilliant portrayal of Zoe, there wouldn't be any Firefly. So, the call goes out, does anyone know what's going on for Ms. Torres? Has she delivered? If so is the Baby Healthy? I would hope so.

Mostly we just cover the conundrums of the characters and there really isn't anything we don't know about Zoe. Extremely loyal to Mal, deeply in love with Wash, able to hurt Jayne. That's all you need to know aout Zoe and it's all there in the series/movie.

She does go to cons when she has something to promote that con goers would be interested in. Lately she hasn't had a lot to promote to the fen is all.

Not that I've ever heard.

The baby was due sometime in late summer. I never heard what they had. I hope all is going well for the family.

Also, she has a fairly busy career. I know she was on STANDOFF last year, and she was also in that Chris Rock movie I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE. So I think she's on the same level as Alan in that they both have a steady stream of work in movies, which is why they may not go to many conventions.

She also has been in a series, that takes up a lot of time, plus being pregnant on top, no wonder she didn't travel for a while! Can't find any news on the birth though. Anyone know for sure when(or I hate to say it, if) she had the baby?

I think she wants to focus on a film career now. TV just takes too much time out of an actor's life, and she wants to have that time with her family and homelife. Her husband is a film actor and I think she envys the time he has off that she didn't have when she was doing series work.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

In the extra stuff on Serenity it said that she unlike most other actors is quite a veteran with science fiction, so I would imagine she is too busy to attend conventions. The only other actor I know in the show is Alyn Tudyk who was Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball. Hmm, do I spot a trend forming? He's sort of a piriate here too.

We love Zoey. She is talked about often and there are tons of fan fic about her. But seems unlike the others she’s chosen to be less visible. I have no problem with her wanting to keep her private life more private. The other actors of FF are wanting to stay a tad more in the public eye right now while Gina is focusing more on husband and baby. I’m sure she’ll make a comeback if any new BDM is being considered. Remember if you want to taste the chocolate you must stir the coco now and then. Otherwise the mixture will all settle to the bottom.

Gorram right we love Zoe. I've loved Gina since I first saw her on Hercules the Legendary Journeys.....

.... Iolaus is looking to hire a ship. He's directed to a pirate named Nebula, he boards to find Gina showering on deck. While averting his eyes (so as not to look at her naked) he asks where he can find the Captain. Nebula (Gina) asks him to throw her a towel, which he does. After a second he looks up to see Nebula holding the towel around her neck as she says, "You're looking at the Captain."

Anyway I digress. Zoe has plenty of fans and as far as I know, Gina has attended several fan events.

She seems to be off doing her own thing. She's married - is she still pregnant or did she have her baby?

To me, Gina always seemed more mature than everyone else, a bit more reserved, too. She's probably just not interested in doing cons.

But I think Nathan or Joss mentioned once that she used to invite them over for dinner and that she's an awesome cook, so I doubt there was a falling out. In interviews, she genuinely seemed to love the character and working with Joss and Co. If we get our sequel, I'm certain Gina would return.

As for why we don't talk about her much... Well, we don't see her very often. She's not at the cons, she's not in a new show or a new movie. She doesn't blog. That's the stuff that gets people talking.

hey I care about Gina, I have been watching a hohum show called Standoff, about negotiators etc. just because she's in it...mind you I give her kudos for not falling asleep, as the material is lame, and the two lead actors suck! she's great though and the other supports are pretty good too. I keep looking for stuff she's in. any tips?

America loves a winner!

Gina kinda has her own gig going, which is cool. Her marriage and career ( on other shows ) keeps her busy , and then there's that whole having a kid thing. It's not that we don't care about her, she's just not as into the show as much as Nathan and some others are. Can't be a crime to not LOVE Firefly 24/7 , is it ?

I mean, really.

While I agree with your overall conclusion, I don't share that particular observation. Watching the show objectively, her character shows very little development during the 14 episodes and the movie. While the rest of the crew gets saturated with humaneness, she remains constant on the verge of becoming a stereotype. I claim that there is a lot more about her than what we currently know, it just hasn't been shown yet. That's an unlucky situation for both character and actress.

Zoe's story is about the evolution of her relationships to Wash and Mal and how she navigates the conflicting responsibilities those two relationships imply. Of course post movie everything is different but in a way that provides it's own chalenges.

Dearest dogjoy3,
please accept my humblest apologies for my poor attempt at humor with your name. *hangs head in shame* I am not very good with the funny.

The pic truly was for you, however. I've been in a sketching mood lately, and after I read your post I decided to draw Gina as Zoe. I almost gave up on it (the hair! the hair!) but I was determined to finish it so I could post it for you. *sends Gina-love out into the universe*

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I can't seem to find the quote; possibly it's in the other Official Companion or it's just too early in the morning, but Gina is the cast member who is the least saddened by Firefly's end. I think the quote was "I still get to see everyone on a regular basis. I can't really be sad about it." Though I'm sure she would play Zoe again, she's not like the cast members who fell head over heels for the characters they played and the job they were doing. Obviously there's no falling out, because she did say she gets to see all of them; they're obviously good friends. She just doesn't focus on the negatives, or the past. She's got a lot of work, she's got a family, and it seems that much like Zoe, she's a very private person. She's not one of the celebrities who gets splashed all over the media when she's having a baby, she kept it much lower profile, though of course we still heard some about it.
Anyway, she's very busy and not as nostalgic. Her character is definitely one of my favorites and I wish I could meet her one day at a con, but if there are other things for her to do then there are other things for her to do.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
