Several of us thought it was a joke and that he would never write a blog about Airplane Etiquette.

Cant't say as I'm entirely ready yet for a Nathan dispensing life lessons like that. "Grander than life" is a thing one becomes on the white screen; don't make the mistake of acting "better than" in real life. Bill Cosby made that mistake, too: it was not very attractive.

It's about airplane etiquette! I don't think people are suppose to take it that seriously. I'm pretty sure it is meant to be funny yet kind of true at the same time. Nathan has been known to give this kind of advise before in his blogs. In the past he shared his opinion on the proper use of a cell phones and turn signals.

May have been on the losing side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Can we get this played on the overhead speakers at all airports?

Man, I wanna be on *HIS* flight, it sounds so calm and pleasant....

Manners. Obviously not so common anymore if you have to ask for them to be used.

"While we have an open policy concerning messages, please be civil when responding to others."

Mal: " Just get us on the ground. "
Wash: "That will happen most definetly!"

Yup, more Nathan with the funny.

Folks responding to his blogs have even made suggestions for his next "etiquette lesson". *giggle*

I think he means these purely in fun, with a touch of the real hope that folks will be polite and kind to each other. When I met him I noticed that being kind to folks is innate... he looks you in the eye, his hand shake is gentle yet manly and he is focused and polite whilst talking to you.

I wonder what his next blog will be about? The proper etiquette for returning holiday gifts you already have?

I really don't think he means it that way, Asarian. I can't imagine the man I met acting "better than" at all. I think he's just doing a funny blog about something he's experienced lately. ( He's been flying to and fro, I'd wager, with the holidays here. )

Imagine that, a Canadian with a sense of humour and good manners. What is the world coming to.

I'm still coming to grips with the mental image of Nathan as Cliff Huxtable. "Theo...what the xiao tien de...did you do...with my...gorram...Pudding Pops...?"

It was all smooth, creamy fun when we got here!

heheh I think NF must have had a bad flying experience recently and it was on his mind..lol...

to my mind, this is all common sense- but, then some folks ARE lacking in that dept. They aren't part of Mal's crew.. but...

NF's comment on having a sniffle or cough rings true to me. I was on a crowded subway one rush hour and this woman kept sneezing all over everyone in front of her. Not into a tissue, not into her hand or shoulder. Just sneezing. She kept saying, "It's only allergies. I don't have a cold. It's only allergies."

I felt like saying, "It's still snot. If you know you have allergies, carry a tissue."

What's so damn important about being proper? :) Seriously, though, I'll take your word for it. Besides, it's kinda hard to imagine Nathan being a "better than" guy anyway ('cept, of course, the peeps he's better than). Glad to hear I judged too soon. It left me with the wrong impression. Which is what happens... when you judge too soon. :)

I dunno, I was left with the same feeling, honestly. If you look over his blogs, I'd say somewhere between 1/3 and 3/8 of them include him ranting about the offensive behavior of other people.

I guess that's just blogging though =P I'm probably guilty of the same thing.

BORIS

God I so related to this...as anal as friends and family say I am this is how I deal with flying! add to that I try to help out any parents who don't mind friendly strangers helping with grumpy kids (years of child care...never wasted and shock horreur, most parents are greatful for the break). also I have Tourette's, and tend to get twitchier if I am sitting for ages...so I always arrange to have the seat right at the back of the plane so I won't disturb too many people...despite this there's always some halfwit who glares at me...like It's my fault my brain's creatively wired! the one thing that will make me cause a scene on a plane, is when I go to stow my hand luggage, and someone who has brought too much has taken my space...that pisses me off...I also hate that when I request gluten/lactose free vegetarian it somehow suggests I prefer fruit to desert. so I bring my own treats.

I haven't met the man myself (I hope to one day) but I've talked to many who have and they all have the same impression that FollowMal has had. A kind, nice, genuine guy.
