Look for several more nominations each day once we get Dark Shadows into the top 40 in a few days.

I'll thank you for doing that by beginning to nominate Dark Shadows myself. Oh, BTW Vump!

I'm in CT, and there's no chance of it turning to rain or freezing rain. it's all powdery snowboarder-loving snow. we've got about seven inches, and they plowed it maybe when there was an inch on the ground? problem is, one jerk decided to stop on a hill (probably because he's not a new englander and was scared of all this strange white stuff) and got stuck slantways across the lane, and couldn't go up or down. My bf's car doesn't have 4wd, so WE almost got stuck because there were two people in front of us who stopped because taht other car was tryign to get unstuck and they didn't want to chance passing him and either meeting someone head on at the top of the hill, or him finally getting free and t-boning them. they finally did move, and our car's tires stopped spinning (he'd been stepping on the gas this whole time trying to regain traction from having stopped, and it didn't feel like it was gonna happen) enough that we got up the hill and continued on our way. but the reason that even happened was because the roads were practically unplowed. I mean, i've NEVER in my nineteen years of living in new england seen a main road THAT bad. ridiculous.

anyway, vump.

I'll start voting for those then. Can anyone tell me what they're like, other then the obvious- I know they're good, having been created by Joss

Rallem, if you don't mind too much, I'm going to start nominating Dark Shadows for a while, instead of Red Dwarf, untill they get in the top 40, just to help shiny people out .

Now, just lookit all you shiny Browncoats! I go to lie down a while, while the missus spells me at the wheel of the VUMPmobile, and, I get back up and see all you wonderful folks standin' up to help out with the Dark Shadows Noms!

StillFlyin, RiverFlan, and, especially, Rallem, who has paused his own campaign to get a Hologram, a Vindaloo-eatin' scoundrel, an evolved mutant cat, a sex-shanging computer, and, a mechanoid with a head "like a novelty con-dom" their moment of glory, I thank you, and, everybody else who has been helpin'. That means you, WackyNephew, in particular!

Xie-xie to all of you! I love my shiny Browncoat brothers and sisters!

You don't know Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, or, the spinoff, Angel?

Ooh, are you in for some Jossified goodness, RiverFlan!

Buffy was based on a movie, which parodied the usual vampire movie tropes. In this case, the "Chosen One' was a Valley-Girl, Buffy, who didn't quite take the whole thing seriously. Great movie, surprising casting, too!

Then, it was made into a great TV show, with a lot more depth and character development. It has a lot of the great characterizations, plot twists, and dialog for which Joss is so famous. It's not Firefly, but, you ought to enjoy it, on its own merits.

Angel was a spinoff, as mentioned, a little darker, mebbe, but, still, a lot of fun! The protagonist is a centuries old male hottie vamp named Angelus; he and Buffy have... Relationship issues. But, anyway, I hope that gives you something to work from!

Whedonverse 411 VUMP!

Of course, given the way our votes typically drop over the weekend, don't be surprised if it's actually Monday. It's been a long time since we hit 1K on either weekend day.

A tip from someone who only watched them recently and had someone make this same mistake. By the time you make it to the end of the two shows it doesn't seem like remotely a spoiler to describe Angel in those terms. But for much of the first season of Buffy, Angel is just a mysterious stranger. When introducing the shows to people who don't like spoilers, it's better to leave out the V-word (and the "with-a-S" word too). There's at least one scene in S1 which loses a lot of it's impact if you know that.

(I can't imagine the "relationship issues" bit counts as a spoiler, though. You can see THAT bit coming from the first moment he shows up)

I think Ray covered it pretty well.

One tip: Angel started at Buffy season 4, if I remember rightly (it'll be obvious, once you get to the relevant point in the storyline) and from that point on it's really worthwhile to watch them properly alternating, especially for the first season or two in which they overlap. You can get the original air dates off Wikipedia or something - but beware of spoilers, if you care (ideally, find someone who's already watched it, or who doesn't care, to go get the right order of episodes for you).

However there is one point where the original air dates will mislead; the crossover episodes were aired out of order (sound familiar?). In Angel season 4 / Buffy season 7, Buffy "Lies my parents told me" comes before Angel "Orpheus", no matter what the air dates might say.
