Although I like Firefly more than BSG (especially after season 3) I must say Frak is a little better than Gorram. Frak can be said with much more attitude. Gorram always seemed like an expression of annoyance. Frak is much more versitile.

Star Wars swear words are ridiculous. I'm writing a SW fic right now and I'm thinking of abandoning all swearing in the story.

Farscape had several good swear words. Dren was one, and I seem to remember they had a word they called Chiana - a tralk. There was also mivonks, hezmana, drannit, yotz, loomas, fahrbot, frelnik, thoddo and greebol, although I've forgotten the usage for probably half of them.

EDIT: On second thought, I found a site that explains them! Yay! Now I can brag about my huge loomas.... or maybe not, that just sounds very wierd.

You forgot all the shiny Mandarin phrases in Firefly! While not technically swear words, they are very useful when you get frustrated and need to say SOMETHING but can't use the traditional English swear words.

Just make sure that there isn't a Mandarin speaker close by or you may get threatening looks for completely mispronouncing his/her language.

Swearing isn't appropriate. That's the point of it.

Part of me wants to say Gorram is the best because of the FF link but my heart tells me to go for Smeg.

It's just so instantly recognizable in the UK and can used in so many different ways. Even people that haven't seen Red Dwarf know the word. Most of the others on the list would only relate to fans of the show.

Yeah, I felt like I didn't have the time to look up the exact quote before somebody else picked it up.

A Firefly quote bot would be pretty useful here.

KRIFFING!!! Don't forget kriffing! most common SW swear word ever used lol XD

shisno - that's an RvB one, though not so much a curse as a derogatory remark, which i guess can be considered a swear, can't it? nvm. @_@

I thought the word "rutting" was tossed around quite a bit. I'm not sure I heard every crew member sprout this little jem but I'm sure the ships mechanic, Doc Simon and sister River, Mal and Jayne all made use of it in one episode or another.

Can't say I love any of them, but I've always thought "frak" and "freel" were particularly weak tea. Lame.

While a lot of the Star Wars ones aren't great either, "poodoo" always makes me laugh because it's so ludicrous (and because it doesn't mean what it sounds like it means!).

Best curse word? "Barbara Streisand!"

obviously haven't read any of the novels out there in the star wars 'verse ;) or maybe not just the right ones. And I don't read the kindergarten stuff :P just all the big girl next gen. novels. not the graphic novels.

Snarf was that weird creature's name, wasn't a swear. he just said 'snarf' from time to time for..whatever reason. snarfer did the same thing with his name if you saw enough of the series @_@ whcih unfortunately i did. burned way too many brain cells on that waste of a show.

Sigh. There are so many classic books that the youth of today only know as movies - and then there are classic radio dramas that people only know as books or TV shows.

Season two of the HHGTTG radio show introduced us to curses such as swut, jujuflop and turlingdrome as well as the worst of all: (which I won't repeat in full) B**g**m - only to be used in cases of dire provocation.

...or you could watch Torchwood and just enjoy good 'ol fangled, unbowdlerised, Anglo-Saxon pottymouth (although they seem to be a bit more restrained this season) - usually slighty muffled because someone else's tonsils are in the way.

Well, that's just Prime.

I'm not sure how to feel about the character named Slag. What did he do to get his name profanitized?
