Really stoked about Diary of the Dead also. I remember when Land of the Dead was released, it got a lot of negative reviews from both critics, and Romero fans as well. I loved it, and can't wait for the possible last zombie film from him

Definitely the new Indiana Jones.

I didn't even now they were making a new Incredible Hulk movie. I'll probably see it even though I never really liked the hulk and wasn't too impressed with the first one.

The new Batman should be interesting. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I didn't think Heath Ledger would be a good Joker, but the previews look promising.

Movies I will see in the theater:

Iron Man- Another marvel flick decades in the making

Choke- adapted from the book by author of Fight Club

The Dark Knight- duh

Movies I will rent and/or buy on dvd:

The Happening- hopefully M. Night Shamalan will not screw up the ending to this one too. If he pulls this one off I MIGHT see his next one in a theater

Valkyrie- wackyness and brain washing of Katie Holmes aside, Cruise still makes damn good movies

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army- the first one was worth the rental and del Toro is a genius.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno- Kevin Smith is the man! But then again... I even liked Jersey Girl.

Mutant Chronicles- if they actually have the money and support to finish it

Is it me, or is there more orginal movies coming out this year. Meaning movies that aren't sequels, remakes, or adaptations?

It's not just you. There were a handful of original films last year but few in the Scifi/Adventure/Fantasy genre. And far.. far to many shoddy adaptations that completely missed what made the books/graphic novels so great. I am hopeful for this year. There are a number of sequels but they look great.

Anyway here's my list... at least the ones my medicated(got a cold), sleep deprived brain can come up with at the moment.

Will see in theaters

-Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ~May 22(Two days after my 24th B-Day WOOHOO)... holy crap I'll be 24...
-Dark Knight
-Star Trek XI
-Get Smart (Gotta love Maxwell Smart... considering my name is Max and... well I'm sorta smart)
EDIT: -The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (can't believe I forgot that one)

May see in theaters
-Hellboy 2
-Iron Man
-..... ok there's another one but I can't remember it...
-The Spiderwick Chronicles

Interested in
-The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton and Liv Tyler... all I'm gunna say)
-Mongol
-10,000 BC (Not too impressed, especially with the whole mammoths and pyramids idiocy)

.... more to come once I can think of them ....

BTW Terminator 4 won't be out this year since they haven't even started filming & aren't for months, 2009 release definitely. And I suppose you mean 10,000 B.C. which unfortunately isn't a sequel to 300 (sad to say it but there will never be a sequel to 300) and 10,000 B.C. is actually a film about "A prehistoric epic that follows a young mammoth hunter's journey through uncharted territory to secure the future of his tribe."

Being a big movie buff there are loads of movies I can't wait to see this year but I'll cut it down to a nice round 15:

1) Quantum of Solace (Bond 22)
2) The Dark Knight (big batman fan as you can see by my avatar)
3) Iron Man
4) Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (can't wait)
5) Speed Racer
6) Doomsday (Looks AWESOME, shame about the Bentley being in it)
7) Star Trek
8) Semi-Pro (Will Ferrel = FUNNY)
9) The Incredible Hulk
10) Indiana Jones And the Curse of the Crystal Skull
11) Cloverfield (Haven't seen it yet, shame on me)
12) Fanboys (Looks freaking Hi-Larious)
13) Jumper
14) Hancock
15) Get Smart

Guess I'm out of the loop.
I had thought T4 started filming a year ago, shortly after Ahnold said he would only act in if filmed in California.
I had meant 10,000 the sequel to 300. I don't look forward to 10,000 BC. What happened to the sequel to 300? After the Battle of Thermopylae with 300 Spartans in 480 BC had such great Box Office, I had understood the Battle of Plataea with 10,000 Spartans in 479 BC was to be the sequel, with the David Wenham role carrying over. What happened? Why will there "never be a sequel"?

Iron man... I can't belive Marvel made Fantastic four, fantasic four 2, Electra, Ghost rider, X-men 3, Spider man 3 BEFORE they made Iron man... This was begging to be made and Robert Downey Jr. looks outstanding in the part of Tony Stark... I had my doubts at first. I hope hes a drinker in this first movie.

Indiana Jones 4 ...I'm a Jones junky, I was taken to see Raiders when I was 11... Thats all I'm gonna say.

Aside from watching stuff on DVD, the only film that I think would get me into the theaters would be Atlas Shrugged, but Angolina Jolie star power aside (she's signed on to play Dagny Taggert), I'd say the odds are better for a Serenity sequel making it into the theaters before that ever does.

Stuff I will see on DVD:

The Dark Knight
Narnia
Wall•E
Indiana Jones

And I agree with Orpheus: Speed Racer will be a train wreck. (I loved that cartoon when I was a kid; key words: "cartoon" and "kid.")

That all said, while I rarely go to the theater, I'd camp out overnight for Serenity II tickets.

The key to Serenity 2, I believe, is simply looking at all the sequels that have worked, and applying their formulas to our beloved story.

We could, for example, have:

SERENITY II: THE WRATH OF NISKA (Niska suddenly has pecs the size of Mount Rushmore, and embarks on a course of revenge against the crew of Serenity. A pivotal scene shows Mal in the throes of overacting, repeatedly screaming "Niskaaaaa!.... Niskaaaaa!...." while an expensive rotating helicopter shot capturing the performance puts the movie permanently in the red.)

or....

SERENITY 2: THE ALLIANCE/EMPIRE/BLUE-SUN-CORP/BLUE-MAN-GROUP/BIG-EVIL-GROUP-OF-WHATEVERS STRIKES BACK (The Operative returns, more machine than man -- "twisted and evil" -- and tells Zoe he's really her father. Zoe, rather than pathetically screaming "Noooooooooooooooooo," whips out her sawed-off and blows his head away.)

or....

SERENITY 2: SERENITY RELOADED (Mal flies through the air, with sunglasses and his Browncoat flapping behind him. Back on Serenity, River tells Jayne the key to bending the spoon is realizing that "there is no spoon." "Of course there's no spoon, gorram crazy girl," Jayne snaps. "We ain't got nuttin' but chopsticks on this boat. And butcher knives, too. But stay away from those!" "I can still kill you with my brain," River responds, while Mal continues flying through the air, Browncoat still flapping behind him, for no apparent reason other than that it looks "really cool.")

or

SERENITY 3: THE SEARCH FOR WASH (Serenity surveillance tapes show that right before Wash died in BDM, he did some sort of weird finger-thing to River's face, thus transferring his brain into hers. Not that it wasn't crowded in there already. REALLY crowded. Anyway, a still-grieving Zoe finds out that her late beloved husband is now inside River, and asks River to channel him to her. River agrees. Zoe shows River into her room, where Zoe and River/Wash begin shaping clay into pottery on a potter's wheel. The rest of the crew, seeing only Zoe and River amorously massaging the spinning clay, immediately head to their bunks. Except for Inara, who heads to her shuttle. And Kaylee, who heads out for more batteries.)

or the obvious one....

SERENITY 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (a.k.a. THE RIVERNATOR) (The crew reacts in horror upon learning that River is really a robot named Cameron. "I'm a robot from the future," Cameron says flatly, her voice expressionless, her once-dark and wavy hair now straighter and lighter. Yet she's still dressed in that same gorram red hippie dress from OiS. And just about every other episode. "And what year in the future would it be that you're from?" a confused Simon asks. "2021," the Rivernator replies. "Umnn...that was nearly 500 years ago," Simon tells her. "Are you sure you're on the right set?")

REGINAROADIE

Three titles that haven't been mentioned yet that I really want to see is FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (the one of the three or four Apatow produced comedies coming out this year I want to see the most), RESERVATION ROAD (the latest from AMERICAN BEAUTY director Sam Mendes that reunites DiCaprio with Sam's wife Kate Winslet) and YES MAN, the first real Jim Carrey comedy since BRUCE ALMIGHTY.

Everything else mentioned above I really want to check out as well. Just bringing up a few smaller films that might have fallen through the cracks.

It also shows just how much the Firefly universe has gotten to me. I mean, some people are moved enough to create fan fiction. I'm obsessed enough to start scripting out a gag reel.

Personally, I'd love to see Mal flying through the air all Keanu Reeves. Sorry for MATRIX fans out there, but talk about a special effect looking for a movie! OK, so I'm supposed to believe they're in the computer? And if they die in the simu world they'll die for real via some unexplained cyber stigmata? Umnn...nope. Didn't buy it. My disbelief was not suspended.

You know, it's a rare achievement when a movie's premise can actually make TRON look feasible, plausible, and intelligent. They should have gotten an award for that, in addition to awards for the whole "bullet time" thing.

But people flock to the theaters to watch guns appear out of no where and endless bullets fly, and to hell with anything resembling anything we can actually care about. It "looks cool," and apparently that's all that's needed to sell tickets or make sequels these days.

Things looking cool. That seems to suffice. Great CGI where there should be great characters and dialog.

Or torture porn. What the hell is up with that? And now we have a torture porn sub-genre in the guise of castration porn, with movies like Hard Candy and now Teeth.

Characters won't matter. When the torture porn is exhausted and new CGI tricks mined bare, we'll re-mine Cinderella in all its pathetic RomCom variations, women reduced to damsels in need of rescue, their sole virtue their beauty; men reduced to rescuers, their sole virtue their money.

Is it any wonder Pretty Woman was such a hit? She's a hooker, but really a nice person! He's a ruthless businessman, but a real sweetheart! She'll quit turning tricks; he'll quit raiding companies! And our happy ending is thus: She's still hot and great in the sack; he's still worth seven figures. But now they're both nice and have changed their ways and will live happily ever after.

Yup, that there's what sells. There's that Cinderella vision, there's torture porn, there's CGI. And all of it populated with cliches and cardboard cut-outs and to hell with characters we can actually love.

Why, could someone please tell me, are we up to Saw IV? Were there message boards demanding more of this slop? Fan conventions? Did a bunch of people start sending dismembered body parts to the production company?

But who am I kidding? While Firefly came and went, Fear Factor was in the midst of a five-year run....

I agree as well. I'm getting sick of the crap they keep pumping out. I'm sure at least half the films on my own list will fall victim to Hollywood BS. Sad thing is a lot of the folks who watch that garbage really do enjoy it. And you know what else? They say the same thing about us and our beloved Firefly or Trek or Stargate. On the other hand. While I do hate 95% of Reality TV some of it's not that bad. Especially when you take into consideration the very loose criteria a series has to meet to be considered "Reality TV". We have shows like "Dirty Jobs" and "Mythbusters" which though sometimes not great never fail to entertain or educate. Even if by educate I mean show a really good example of why NOT to do something. I sometimes take offense when I hear a show I like labeled as "Reality TV". And movies these days are even worse. Of course it's really no different than it's ever been. There just more of everything, and it's all bigger and louder and gets a lot more coverage. One thing that does have to stop is the whole so called "Torture Porn" It's getting as bad as the spoof genre. There's a new one every month and they just keep getting worse with each one. The original Saw should never have made it to the theaters and it's not surprising all the sequels are about as pointless and uninteresting as a dictionary to George W.

There I went all Andy Rooney and got that out of my system .... what are you all staring at? Go back to googling upcoming movies to find the most obscure and impress us all.

I'm not really a big movie buff, so the only one I know about and am interested in is National Treasure 2.

It's funny, because in the first one, they changed the original last scene to something a little less good because they didn't want to come off as "there's going to be a sequel to this" and what happens? They make a sequel so they might as well have stuck with the better scene. I just love irony like that.

Of course, I'm going to learn from the movie buffs in here that it came out last year or something....

Umm.... National Treasure: Book of Secrets did come out last year. In December. It was pretty good but I prefer the first one.

Also I'd like to apologize to you all for my rant last night. I was in a very grumpy mood. I keep getting a cold ever couple weeks and it's pissing me off.
