Oooh I hope there is one!!!
But... isn't he dead? How would he be in the second one?

Thats what I was Thinking. The guy who talks most about a sequel is the one least likely to be in it.

Well maybe they've figured something out that'll bring him back, like some scifi gooey "bring wash back" formula that we don't know about... then again... maybe not, But you never know.

I'm sure he'd be around for a flashback type cameo at the very least. Otherwise Joss might still have something up his sleeve.

Maybe a prequel to Serenity?

Something showing those "early fun days", with just the crew, before Book & the Tams.

Maybe he'll be really 'spry for a dead fella'.

Good that he "believes unreasonably" . 'cause that'll get us there !

I wouldn't mind a prequel too much but if it was a sequel there could be no Book and Wash. That's how the beautifully bittersweet 'Verse works. Actions have consequences...even heroic ones.

It could be like Godfather II: continuing the story, but with lots of flashbacks.

You guys need some imagination :) ....there's all kind of ways to get Book and Wash in another movie.

One easy (and unsurprising way) is to utilize the time frame between Firefly and Serenity. They could use that movie to face and address the remaining Niska threat.

Oooohhh!!! I'll hang on to anything that gives me hope of a sequel.
I'll bet something is in the works, even if it's preliminary and I'll bet all the cast will be used.
Ya gotta have hope.

I acutually just read the quote in the link. He doesn't have any idea. Those guys that played those characters are as hopeful as us I think.

they buried Wash at the end of the film...so i can't see how the storyline can continue with him.

joss has said FF lends itself to past storytelling so it is possible wash could appear in a sequel that is a snapshot in time....

...but the current cast of characters would not fit
...and the first film left us hanging with "I don't think the Alliance is done with you yet"

etc.

heck, we would accept any story just to get a story now, no matter how unlikely ;-P

What happened? He see your face?

When I first read the thread title I thought "Hmmm... What is Alan promoting now. LOL"

Funny how Joss called about the financing. If you impale a guy, there are often repercussions.

STRANGEBIRD

Just remember Alan says a couple of times that it's mostly just his own opinion based on a bit of talk he overheard. Or at least that's what he implies.

Anyway I know some of you feel it would be completely impossible to bring Wash back but this is a child of Joss Whedon's brain... if he can think one up he can pull it off. One theory of mine being they never recovered his body and it was taken by other "agents"... perhaps other Hands of Blue or another operative. Who better to interrogate or brain-wash than the pilot of the ship. Yes that's a very unlikely scenario and he was impaled severely but medical science in that century is able to scoop out a man's innards and put in artificial ones that work even after getting holes in them.

Either way he never mentioned he'd be in a sequel. I love Wash but I'm interested in seeing where Zoe goes... does she get even further from her warrior self or does she fall deeper into a dark violent set. I have faith that if Joss did bring it back post-BDM he'll come up with new characters that will, if not replace, fill the void somewhat. He's good at that. Maybe another academy alum like River or a sibling of Jayne's or even Bester. Or, more likely, something we'd never expect.

P.S. Honestly I'd bet it was his intention to kill them off even if the series did not get canceled. I know he's at least hinted he had planned to do so with Wash. He probably didn't have ideas for other characters at that point though.

mmm.....iunno if i'd really want a second one. the first one wrapped up and encompassed the story pretty nicely, and usually when a movie does that, a sequel is just an attempt to do something else for the sake of doing something else, like Jaws *sry, just watched Jaws* they did not need any sequels to that movie. the shark died. crisis averted. end of story. besides, Wash is dead. i mean, come on.

Please please please let there be a sequal. I went from complete and total ignorance of the Firefly universe to complete and total obsesison in three days' time, and I've never done that with any work of fiction before in my life. Not Buffy, not Star Trek, not Star Wars, nothing. Until now.

Here's some interesting food for thought, though, on why a sequal might be getting more and more possible, why FOX might ironically be the catalyst that makes it happen, and how Wash just may figure into the sequal:

Summer Glau.

Serenity could now have something on board that it never had before: real star power. If T:TSCC does well -- and it's off to a good start -- Summer's name is going to get more and more well-known. She's already the breakout star of that show (nearly every review seems to agree with that), and if she continues to build an audience, said audience will be putting butts into theater seats anytime her name is on the marquee.

It gets better: If T:TSCC keeps building a fan base (an additional fan base to this one), then Summer's going to have two rather enthusiastic (if not rabid) fans bases on which to build ticket sales for a Serenity sequal. Plus, River is already so central to the Firefly mythology that there's no way she wouldn't be soomehow central to a sequal's storyline.

I mean, vengeful Alliance aside, we last saw her piloting the freakin' ship.

And, as many have pointed out, Serenity lost its pilot.

Hmnn...so now we have the one member of the cast with real potential (and immediate) star power ability, portraying one of the most loved (or at least talked about) characters, who was last seen piloting the ship, and who -- if that weren't enough -- is a genius assassin with deadly martial arts skills.

Oh...and lest we forget, a psychic who can often have other peoples' memories planted in her brain without her knowing it.

Other people's memories....Including those who might have subsequently been impaled by Reavers.

What if Wash and Book can live on through River? Not hokey flashbacks, but haunting, conflicting stuff only Joss Whedon would think of.

And what of Book? There's a lot of mystery to that man, and a very, very mean-spirited side of him that only one member of Serenity's crew even knows about.

And that would be River.

Watch "Objects in Space," and see Book reveal himself through River's psychic abilities. He's mean, and she's the only one who knows it. Teritory to mine? Maybe a means of finally unraveling the mystery that is Book?

How much of the above is even close to the mark is doubtful, especially when trying to figure out where Joss Whedon would take any story. But I'm fairly certain of this: If Summer gets big enough via T:TSCC, that will get the attention of the suits. A big name can make a mediocre movie a success.

Imagine what it could do with a really great movie -- a sequal to Serenity -- let alone what a combination of two cult audiences could do to ticket sales.

Hey I was only suggesting a possible way Joss might bring one of the "dead" characters back. I know Wash and Book are dead and as much as it pains me I don't know how well I'd buy it if they weren't. I don't want a sequel for sequels sake... only if Joss and co. can come up with a really good plot and have a damn good reason and similar budget. Oh and the original style of soundtrack back... please for the love of all that is Joss.

Hope for more Firefly/Serenity rests with the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD (Release date: 8/21/2007) See http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/news.php?id=6846

Not so sure.

I suspect that the main reason Joss killed off Book and Wash was to reduce the number of principal characters he would have to find roles for in Serenity 2 & 3. Having nine "stars" is fine for a TV show - but a headache for a movie trilogy.

In a TV show, maybe Jayne only gets one or two decent lines this episode, but, hey, next time its "Jaynestown" and he gets to carry the whole thing. There's plenty of time in a season for each character to have a couple of episodes in which they have a vital role. That's not so easy in a 2-hour movie that has to tell a single story.

You can see the problem in some of the Next Gen Star Trek movies, with some characters apparently just along for the ride. (Original Trek was less of a problem as Kirk/Spock/McCoy were always more developed than the rest).

I agree that Book will be dead in another Serenity, but how come you guys won't let Wash's twin brother come on board? Maybe the twin won't get along with Zoe (that would get creepy), but has the hots for River, Inara, YoSaffBridg? If Wash's Brother is good at flying also, and he bags Inara, Mal could get on with YoSaff, and skip the special Hell now that Book isn't around.
