Use a wiffle ball bat. Less bruising but just as satisfying.

The whistling sound it makes as it cuts through the air or that sound it makes when it impacts flesh?

I dunno - the sound of a wooden bat (or 2 by 4) on a skull... ooo, I guess I'm in a dark mood this morning!

Hell with that. The Colonel has over 40,000 rounds that Cpt. West sent him and I still have about half of the 24,000 rounds I had for the Memorial Day shindig. Sending a few hundred at her students would be fun. I'll be right over with a few rifles, MsB.

Though I do agree with sister, wooden bat or 2x4 against a skull does make a satisfying sound.

Friendly bump from another airsoft player (though only a "weekend warrior" since I've gone to college and can't have my rifle down here). Glad to see that firefly is being kept alive in that arena at least.

Recently there were some folks up in Wisconsin or Virginia or somewhere who re-created the Battle of Serenity with airsoft, and we have a UK member who has done several such battles. It's so much fun!

Wanna join up with the 76th ???

Well, I'm out in Kansas and I'm willing to bet most of you folks are West and East Coast. I'm a WWII reenactor ( http://137thinfantry.org/ have been with this unit for two, three years now) and oddly enough you're uniform and such reminds me off that a lot; the specific gear/equipment required and what not.

The only problem is, I'm still collecting that gear (and being a college student makes it a bit tougher); still need a bayonet for the basic impression but I'll also have to pick up some other "non-essential" but important equipment, like a gasmask bag (for random stuff like rations, ammunition, grenades etc) and my rifle's blank adapter.

Starting over, for this would be a bit of a pain right now, since I recently bought an airsoft rifle (An very nice AK-47 which I've barely been able to use-I'm a little sore about that), especially considering that I technically have a few pieces of this equipment already (the Steel M-1 Helmet for example) but I can't use them (need my helmet to be OD green) and so I'd have to buy that again.

Prehaps after I finish collecting my US Impression and if I get more into Airsoft (I only got started last summer) this summer again.

Though, it would be nice to actually have a uniform going airsofting; usually I simply go with an odd OpFor one, wearing Desert night camoflauge with some other pieces of US equipment. Goes good with the AK, but I feel a little out of place(some of my friends are on teams that have similar uniform requirements, usually modern US uniforms though).

Edit: I might have to pick up some of those patches just for the hell of it; I think it's pretty cool that you guys have them.

A quick question: I understand nearly no latin, but I get the first part, but what's "LIBERTAS SUMPTUS" mean?

Libertus Sumptus literally means Liberty Costs (I think) but we prefer the more loose translation of "Freedom Ain't Free".

I completely understand being a college student. Feel free to join our message boards just to see what we're all about. We have plenty of folks who are on there who aren't able to march with us for whatever reasons. :)

Still think we need a recruitment video with Tristan giving a brief overview of the 76th and general costume stuff, then clips of shindigs and the march... maybe with some nice music.... I'm just saying:)

KAYNA

I love my captain

Hey folks! I haven't been about too much recently (looking for a job and a college) but I thought I'd say hi.

Sister, I'm so sorry to hear about you mother. My mom nearly died last October and that was hard enough. *Hugs* and well wishes.

Tankobite, I also understand the lack of funds thing. I have nearly nothing for this uniform right now. I'm still trying to get my SCA armor together (been playing for about a year) and am currently unemployed. Bleck!!

Also, how do I join the 76'th forum? Is it just a matter of registering on the site?

I'm already working on a recruitment video, though we probably ought to put in some video of the march, as right now it's just airsoft battles from various shindigs.

Kayna, you are one of the ones who slipped through the cracks, and I apologize for that. I take care of all of the incoming applications, and I know I have seen yours. I will re-check it when I can this weekend, and you should be activated soon.

One thing you can do is make sure you are signing up for the forums with the same e-mail address that you sent in your application with. In fact, if you want to send me that e-mail address (james dot spettel at robins dot af dot mil) I can pass it along and guarantee you are activated tonight when the Colonel gets on.

Well, its not the funds per say; I have a great summer job, its just I'm trying not to overextend my recreational activities: Reenacting, Airsofting, Bagpiping (eventually I'll have to buy an actual set and a kilt and what not for my pipe band). I'd rather take care of one thing at a time.

RIVERISMYGODDESS: I think I'll register on the boards, at worst I think I will get the patches for a friend at least (He has the BSG ones, but I think these would be cooler).

I'm a big fan of TANSTAAFL too!

Edit: For the board I'll need to send in an application, no? Haven't done that yet, but I'll need to for registering with the boards to go through, right?

OK, sent it in. I guess I'm really going to have to consider this now that I've signed my papers...don't want to end up like Ol' Joe Camp.

(For those of you not familiar with old Civil War music)
Quote:

1 Old Joe Camp when he came to town,
He enlisted under Captain Brown;
Brown swore him on the very first slap,
And sent him off to Manassas Gap.

2 Brown he was a-walking around,
He found Joe sleepin' on the ground;
Brown said to Joe, "It is your lot,
We'll take you out and have you shot."

3 Said Joe to Brown, "Fightin's not my intent,"
Said Joe to Brown, "Fightin's not my intent,"
And now I can't do you no dirt,"
And to the Yankees he did desert.

4 The ammunition gittin' thin,
The Yanks wound Joe up and poked him in;
They fired him off at the very first round,
And fired him back to Captain Brown.

I think the tune is now called "Shortnin bread" but I like these lyrics better.

This is the first time in a long while that I have gotten to sleep in on Daylight Savings Time, so I really didn't notice it. As long as I'm here when the clocks tell me to be here, I don't notice the daylight outside, since there are no windows on my office, I always get here in the dark (0600), and I always leave in the sunlight (1430).

I hope you are all well, I am really looking forward to seeing you at the shindig this weekend.

It's gonna be a long week because of the shindig this weekend. We'll get through it somehow, though.

MsB, I wish the teleporter worked too, it would be awesome to have you there with us.

I'm thinking about having a shindig at my house sometime while the Colonel is moving/settling in. It'd be easier access for the Florida folks, and still close enough to Atlanta for anyone who wants to fly in.

Just ordered my Type B from Tristan. I'm very much looking forward to having it! I've completed crocheting one of the sleeves and have begun the other. They need to be 'silvered' but that should be fairly easy.

BTW: e-bay is an evil thing. I've spent waaaay too much money on there this past week!

No, this one was surplus. He made it for someone roughly the same body type I was (and I guessed it correctly when I PMed him!) and instead of it going to waste, I bought it. So I don't think he's doing any sewing. Even if it doesn't have any patches on it, I've got a 76th patch already and would just need rank and an IA patch. And since I STILL need ranks for my OLD uniform coat, I am not worried.

I'm undecided if I will keep both uniforms parade-ready or make one distressed.

If you live anywhere near a military base the PXs sell them. I'm not sure if you need to have a military ID to buy them though (I don't know, if I ever needed military rank insignia, usually I just borrowed them from my Dad). If that's the case, you can probably get a friend who's military to pick you up a set.

Sucks to be you folks then. The PX is awesome. Like Walmart with no taxes and cooler camping equipment.

(I have one)

Here's an interesting note: I've found an old British Trench coat (from the 80s I think) and next week there's a USSR v. NATO airsoft event that I plan to pick up some equipment (bandolier for my AK, and possibly a Russian helmet). I'm thinking though that if I got the patches for a Browncoat unit I could start making my own personal uniform. It wouldn't be right with your unit's because my coat is a darker brown, so I'd probably go a little wild(I'm thinking of simply using an Australian style hat I have as head gear for example). Not sure what I'll call my unit though; think it'd be neat to get one of those brown Utilikilts and make a Highland Regiment

Tristan might have some extra ones, Boothe, because I got Zeph's old ones when he got his Captain bars.

We actually talked about having a highland sort of regiment within the 76th, so I'd love to see pics if you end up doing that.

Have fun with the airsofting!

I don't go on eBay anymore. I'm just getting back to where I am ok financially, and that would ruin me. :)

I'll be sure to do that. I'm not sure that if I do, whether or not I should go with the Utilikilt or go with an actual one. Historically Scottish Regiments wear the actual one with the tartan colors on 'em, but if we're shooting for a "Brownkilt" then it should probably be like the one we've got pictures of Fillion wearing.

Personally, I'm tempted to keep it historical since that looks a little neater
(in my opinion)

And since I'll have to buy an actual kilt later on for my band, I'd rather not buy another one for this. The one thing that'll be a bit difficult is seeing about working a patch for it (I figured I'd follow your guy's basic rules about the Independent Army patch on the right), but I'm not sure what I'd do about the left side. I'll have to see if I've got any US ones I can mess around with and make it into one.

Edit: FYI, the link you guys put with the Patch to "Out to the Black" is broken.

Tankobite, I think they are currently out of the Independent patch. I'll talk to the Colonel and see if he knows more (the supplier is also a member of the 76th). In the series, the Independents wore the triangle patch on their left side, so either one would work ok.

I think I had WAAaaaayyyy too much coffee today. My hands are shaking a bit. But mmm...Dunkin Donut coffee. Yum! How could I resist. My head is gonna kill me later, I just know it.

Plz excse me while I zip around the room. Wheeeee!

Good morning.

Hope everyone is having a good time at Tristan's. It's a bit rainy here, but nothing like that tornado through Atlanta. Keep safe and have fun!
