Ha! That's funny. Did you all just do that in a residential neighborhood? Lucky dogs! When my friends and I tried that we got a nice talking to by the MPs. To be fair, we were on Post at the time and probably should have known better. Also, you can't trust the damn kids these days anyway...

Good news for me; I found my Trenchcoat, I was wrong, it is dated 1964. Good coat, can't for the life of me remember why I stopped wearing it-planning to go to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in it (raining pretty heavily out at the moment, it'll be good for it).

Been thinking about the unit shoulder patch lately. Apparently it isn't that tough to make one; there's a store at the PX that'll scan images and put 'em onto clothing, so I figure I can do with US did in WWII and just put it on a thin piece of cloth, then cut it out and sow it on. First I have to design it, however. Haven't gotten too far on that (I don't have Photoshop, so it'll be a bit tougher) but I'm thinking of borrowing the unit motto of the Black Watch: " Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" ("No One Provokes Me With Impunity").

That was in the Colonel's yard, shed, and basement. We had a great time making it.

Tankobite, he told me that Out to the Black outfitters should have the Independent triangle patch that you need. Don't use the link in this thread, but go to http://www.outtotheblack.com/patch.html and you can order them.

Thanks River; just ordered 'em.

Maybe when I get back, I'll upload some of the photos of my Trench coat. Very nice coat...
Edit:
The whole coat

Well, I like it anyway.

Mornin' 76th!

Hope everyone got through Monday alright.

Nice lookin' coat Tankobite.

Liking the ideas of a 76th Tartan. We need to hammer out the details on that one Jimi. Not sure I like the thought of a ulitarian, solid color kilt. Plaid! That's the way to go lad!

I was just thinking about that a couple of days ago, Lt. I was going to re-vitalize the thread on the forums, but haven't gotten to it yet. I think plaid is great, I think the hold-up from the last discussion was the actual colors and pattern. :D

Ha, you think that's funny...check out this quote from a Colonel in a Highland Regiment:
Quote:

Join a Highland Regiment, me boy. The kilt is an unrivaled garment for fornication and diarrhea.

LTC John Masters.

Don't know about you guys, but I think my band uses the MacDonnell of Keppoch tartan, so that'll probably be what I use. However, the traditional kilt of the Black Watch might be a good one for ya'll (its dark and green; supposedly of Campbell origin, but I don't really know that much about the clans of Scotland).

I'm thinking about the patch I'll use; I still want to use the Black Watch Motto, but I'm thinking of using the Lancaster rose with that over it. Just tickles me at the moment.

"The Bonnie Blood Red Roses"

Edit: Just got board application approved-should I make my own thread on the roll call section, or is there a roll call thread I missed?

Pattern shouldn't be too difficult and I don't see how it should really matter that much to anyone in particular. The colors on the other hand might cause debate. We could use the colors of the patch maybe.

afternoon soldiers.

I miss you all so much. Shindigs are awesome because we get to hang out in person, but bad in that we miss each other more when they're done.

Tankobite, you can start your own thread in the Roll Call. That way, you can tell a little about yourself, and others can get to know you and welcome you to the board.

The brass squashed it as an official alternate uniform, but we had a thread in Random Crap that was just people who wanted to get the kilts and wear them together. :P

Tank, sorry for the application delay. I am the one who approves those, and I haven't had internet at home until recently.

Well, this was a depressing idea. My son saw the boxes of Easter candy this year. He didn't say anything and I had to make sure that I took all of the chocolate out of the boxes. It's the mature second grader in him that makes me think this Christmas may be the last "Santa Claus" Christmas for him.

Otherwise, we had a wonderful holiday. The kids were kept busy and excited and stuffed full of chocolate and sweets. They were properly spoiled and doted on by family members and are accordingly in horrible moods because of the return to our regularly scheduled boring old school days. LOL

Me? I just need some naps... I need a holiday from the kids' holidays!

I am surprised I kept my kids fooled on Santa as long as I did Kaele. My son didn't confront me about it until he was 11. My stepdaughter found out when her teacher told her two years ago. Damn teacher!

Yeah, I used to work with a woman who taught 4th grade and made SURE all the kids knew about Santa. I always wondered who the hell she thought she was taking that decision from the parents.

Our younger one still has quite a few more years, so we're ok for a while. We've got some time before the magic of Christmas gets tarnished.

---

On a happier note, I just recieved my new smock coat from Tristan yesterday. It fits me almost perfectly, with a small exception in the arms. They're a little too big but I should be able to figure out a way to tack them down without ruining the lines of the smock. But, I've gotta tell you, it's almost like Tristan made this coat for ME rather than someone else... What are the chances of that?

All I'm missing for a complete Type B is the ranks, triangle patch and sleeves. I finished crocheting the one sleeve and I just need to finish the other and foil them. So I should be able to get it done by D*C, barring any complications. I may even have it ready by the time Shore Leave rolls around...

I definitely like the feel of the Type B. I don't feel like a kid in a grown-up's coat like I do in my greatcoat. Maybe because because the smock is a bit more form fitting than the other. The downside is there is no pockets and I would have to lug around a satchel everywhere I went. I do have pouches on my belt, but those can hold only so much.

Wow. New uniform coat, new gun. It'll be almost like a complete uniform change from last D*C!

((enjoys hug from Browncoat1)) Hah, the story about the Easter bunny brought up something from my childhood. I remember when my (4-years younger) sister was told the 'truth' - my mother said to her, "I am the Easter bunny." My sister's eyes got big, and round as saucers and she asked, "can I go with you this year?" believing that mom actually WAS the Easter bunny - she wanted to go along and help deliver baskets to all the kids!

Needless to say we blasted the teacher and the principal over it. No one has the right to take the magic of Christmas away from my child. The teacher was reprimanded over it. Hated to do it, but she sure had no trouble ruining Christmas for children.
