DEADLOCKVICTIM

I read reviews every Friday in the local paper. I don't always agree with the reviewer and sometimes will see a movie based on a bad review - you know, just cause I can...

But after seeing just a part of 10,000 B.C. I think I can safely say that the F rating it got from Tom Maurstad in the Dallas Morning News today, is WAY too generous...

this is a total waste of celluloid...

So, I am curious if anybody pays attention to the reviews - Like I said, I do read them, but really don't base my opinion on them.

(skip 10,000 - it's a stinker) .... now see that's a review.. so don't take my word for it....

I thought it was gonna suck based on the previews, so, that's what I'm basing my decision to not see it on. Don't get me wrong I love what the powers can do with CGI now, but a movie needs better plot rather than awesome CGI for me to even think about seeing it.

Mostly I ignore reviews, I see movies based on if they look good to me. Although, like you, I sometimes go to see a movie because it has been panned by a reviewer. Kind of a middle finger to movie critics everywhere.

That being said, just the trailers turned me off of 10,000. Did not look interesting at all.

STORYMARK

Yeah, I read reviews. Whether I follow them or not is more of a case-by-case thing, but there are a number of critics that I generally consider reliable.

Won't be going to 10,000 BC, though. But I knew that long before I read any reviews.

used to be you could read a review and reliably assume the opposite was true. All the reviews in Playboy are 100% wrong, with few exceptioons. The "critics" don't even bother to watch the film most of the time. One time that nimrod Maltin published a review saying "The Little Princess" was bad, don't see it. After wonderful box office, he changed his review, claiming that he re-reviewed it, and it was actually a good film!!! Doh! What was he doing the first time?

Anyow, find a reviewer who is almost 100% reliable, whether with you or opposite, and use that as your guide. I once found a woman reviewer writing for the Santa Monica Times in the 80's who was actually very good, reliably matched my cinematic goals, and that was a great find for me.

I did see 10,000 this weekend, didn't expect to. That was really marketed wrong. The story was a compilation of Apocalypto and Pathfinder, and some other films with similar story. I actually liked it, but the trailers made it seem like it would be all CGI elephants or something. Although they do have amazingly good orthidontistry back in the day. But I liked The Bank Job better.

I went and saw 10,000 BC on Saturday, and it wasn't that bad. I would NOT reccomend going out to see it, but it would be worth watching at home on DVD.
