Wow. I am so excited. Getting the comic was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning and finally I got it. I love the story and I love hearing the character's voices in my head. I love going back to the verse. I genuinely hope they keep continuing the story in comic form because at least we'll be getting SOME new material. I just had a general quesiton for those who have read it: Does anyone know the translation of the Chinese? And with that I'll throw it to the rest of you: What did you think?

Oh, it is so shiny, isn't it?!

I know at one point, Wash calls Kaylee xiao mei-mei (little sister). Most of us won't know until this site, http://fireflychinese.kevinsullivansite.net/index.html, translates everything else.

I am THRILLED to see my BDHs, and they look so pretty (the drawings are great)...
and the story is wonderful & exciting!

Select to view spoiler:

I'm loving that 'the hero of Canton' is real! LOL

And I love that Inara fantasizes about Mal while w/a paying client...LOL)

I could have used a little more River, but I'm guessing we'll see more of her before the end....

And I'm happy to know they are already thinking about the Book spin-off comics!

Oh yeah! When I turned the page, and...

saw Inara's amorous little fantasy, my eyes nearly popped out of my head!

Then, I began to wonder if this was a little hint of the more innocent activites that the crew were about to embark on whilst on vacation...

that involves swimwear.

I couldn't find it at my local Borders (might be they were already sold out?). Any place else a body is like to find it? Other than an online order that won't arrive till April?

regular bookstores don't usually carry comic books (single issue comics, they do carry graphic novels and other bound copies)

google your zip code + comic book store
and call your local comic book store owners and find out who is carrying it.

My local store ordered a whole bunch of extra copies, I think because he has come to know that the name 'Whedon' on the cover always means a lot of people wanting to buy the book.

as far as ordering online, I've always been happy w/midtowncomics.com
look up Dark Horse release date 3/12/08
they won't charge extra for the comic, and they will get it mailed off to you within the week

Amazon.com has some copies, but they all run for $5.95 (plus $3.99 S/H). It would probably be best to ask local comic book stores (or even larger book stores like Borders) to special order it.

Well TFAW has it at $2.69 plus shipping http://www.tfaw.com/Profile/4.-Serenity-Better-Days-1___312160
Probably still best to check locally because of the shipping charge but this beats amazon at least.

And my local store should have held one for me but they either didn't get any or their delivery was delayed or something.

I want my comic!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I picked up a copy yesterday as well three extra copies for signing purposes.

Maybe I am just suffering from 'verse withdrawls due to it being so long since the last comic series, but this first issue was really good. The art was better than the first mini and the dialog seemed to be a bit more true to the characters. The colors and inking were excellent as well.

While reading it I could actually hear the BDHs voices. It was almost like coming home again.

Joss PLEASE make Serenity a monthly comic just like Buffy and Angel!!!

over a year ago Joss had said he hadn't been able to think of doing comics because he couldn't give up the hope of getting the actors play the characters on screen (either big or little)...
so I can't help but worry that the comics starting to come out (particularly the Book series) are a sign that Joss is giving up hope of a Serenity movie sequel....

But OTOH this is an AMAZING comic, beautifully done in every respect, and happy (usually comics have to be so dire...but here in this first issue our BDHs are ahead! They are flush! Yoo Hoo!)!

Of course things will get worse....
they always do! LOL

YES!!! Got mine yesterday and last night... went back into the black!!!

Select to view spoiler:

Yes.. when I turned to the page that had Mal and Inara in a full page erotic embrace.. my jaw about fell through to china. NO WAY!!! I think I lingerd on that page for an hour in utter disbelief, AND enjoying the sight! However to see that it was her fantasizing about Mal while with another client made perfect sense to me, she is "slipping" by the way. Reference to Kaylee's quote from the pilot. This confirms my opinion that she has been slipping because of her feelings for Mal. Hard to be a companion if more and more her thoughts are of Mal.

However.. what I am very disappointed about is not being able to see this scene in real life!! Damn Fox!!!

So happy...
Got my issue from the local comic book store...it was a Whedon paradise in there.

I was so flippin about the Mal/Inara scene and then I was like...wait this ain't right..oh...let down. My favorite line was the hero of Canton reference though. Thought it was funny as well.

So for starters, I love this one so much more than TLB already, the story feels stronger for some reason, like it's an actually episode instead of a comic inspired by a show. The beginning was particularly thrilling, I could totally see that being shot. As for the drawing, I think it's actually improved, there were some cells of Mal, Jayne, Kaylee and Wash I really enjoyed.

Select to view spoiler:

And yes, the Mal and Inara thing was awesome. A little shocking when I vaguely flipped through the pages and low and behold, the center of the binding opens to THAT (complete WTF moment), though I love how in reality that was how she was getting through servicing that client

Over all, there was hardly any River, but I still love it, plus....

the Hero Of Canton does exist!

I'm gonna buck the trend here and say I DIDN'T love it. Okay, sure, I liked it. I liked it a LOT, but (just like the first issue of Those Left Behind), it felt a little too... "big budget" for my tastes.

I definitely love the cleverness of the job (or is that jobs?) and I'm looking forward to how the new characters (Ephraim and the Scarred Man) fit in (because I'm pretty sure we ain't see the last of either of 'em...), but I still have to rate it as "Very good" instead of "Great."

Pretty harsh, huh? :)

THOLO

I loved it. Any chance to see my crew in action is good for me. The only problem I have with it is its too short. Why wont Joss make Season 2 of Firefly or Season 1 of Serenity in comics. Give Buffy a rest and relight the Firefly.

Thanks

Can barely sit still through my lectures today. Getting "Better Days" later today..happy happy joy joy more of my favourite story!!!...am Giddy with excitement, and apparently too hyped up about it...Don't care. what does that mean anyway? (have not had a chance to indoctrinate all of my Uni friends into the verse so they're a tad uneducated about why the emergence of a new Serenity comic is exciting me to the point of cranial coniption)

I totally agree with you Tholo. Buffy had its 7 run season and he still continues to do it. But Firefly didn't even have a full season so he should definitely do Firefly season 2 instead of Buffy (at least for a little bit).

Nope. I don't worry about that at all. Just go listen to the commentary on the Serenity Collector's edition again. It will reassure you. Joss and the actors love Firefly/Serenity. They love working together. They love each other. They all want to work together again.

Joss just finished filming a internet short with Nathan Fillion DOCTOR HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG. Nathan's character is Captain Hammer. It took a week to film for a 3 10-minute episodes.

Joss has Dollhouse coming up. Nathan hopefully will be back on Desperate Housewives. And he has two movies in post production. Trucker and Chilling in Miami.

Chuck will be back with Adam Baldwin.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles with Summer Glau.

Stargate SG1: The Ark of Truth is #9 on the DVD bestsellers. Morena is the big bad villian.

The more people see of our big darn heroes work, the more they want to see of our big darn heroes work...which leads them back to Firefly/Serenity.

Book is a character that Joss could explore in comics without the rest of the crew.

And Serenity: Better Days. It would make a great straight to DVD movie or internet episodes. Already scripted and storyboarded.

Stargate SG1: The Ark of Truth cost $7 million to make.

Just film the scenes that people have hidden in this thread. No special effects necessary.

Charge us a $100 and with 80,000 Firefly/Serenity fans = 8,000,000.00

8,000 x 1000 = $8 million.

Joss, just give us a donate button for Firefly/Serenity. That is all we need.

We hold til Mal gets back.
