Hey! It seems particularly appropriate for me to be posting my current 3d modelling project in these very forums, because I'm currently (re)designing the space ship Serenity. Once I finish my exams on Thursday, I will crack on and try and get it finished by July.

Current Progress:

http://forums.filefront.com/sw-jk3-modding-editing/338262-serenity-fir
efly-re-release.html

The model is being created for the game Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, (on the slightly antiquated Quake 3 engine) using a program called GTK-Radiant. Now keep in mind this is not a rendered model using a program like 3d Studio Max; it is an in-game map, as in, spawn - walk - explore, sort of thing. It is also being designed on a 5-6 year old engine, so don't expect any Crysis-esque screenshots.

I have completed the Cockpit, Air Lock and Front Hall so far to moderate success and will be working on the Kitchen, Back Hall and Engine Room next. Here are some sample pictures:

It seems appropriate for me to be posting this here, as it seems the most profitable place to get feedback. Any glaring errors/problems so far? Suggestions? e.t.c.

I'm looking forward to your feedback!

It's gorgeous! My only question is what does the pilot do when it's time to reach up and throw a switch or two and they're not there?...!

Prettiest Renders EVER !

Almost looks a little too clean , though...

Might have to press the 'dingy' button and make 'er look a bit more 'lived in'...

Ah, yes, I remember! There are a few switches up there... Mal uses a microphone at the start of the film too. The only decent reference shot I can grab of the area is at 47:11, which is half-blocked out by Jayne's head... Can you think of a better reference shot that I could refer to?

True. I've been working with base (original) textures from the game and their naturally quite clean. I'll try and create a few numbers in Photoshop to give a sense of wear and tear.

Very, very nice. I've worked a bit on a model for Unreal Tournament 2004, but haven't gotten nearly this far yet. The only suggestion I have is just what has been said before - have some fun with the textures. Overall, I'm impressed.

Boy, I'm certainly not an artist and don't know the best places to look. A quick online search came up with these shots of the console and bridge area, but there must be something better showing the actual switches... (The first one does show the microphone and possibly the switches, although it and the next two are from the series.)

This is frakkin' shiny!! Especially since it's based on the Quake 3 engine, which means you can load it as a regular map and play, right?

Keep us appraised of any progress in this awfully shiny project. I've been dying to have a game map of Serenity to walk around and play in.

I take it the copckpit will have a stairways down and such, right? (when that section is done). From what I understood, though, Serenity isn't entirely 'anatomically' correct, qua dimensions, so I'm curious how you will solve this.

Seems like you're mighty talented. Dear and fluffy Lord, with some custom characters this could be made into one heck of an RPG, too! But let's start with the boat first. :)

Anyways, truly shiny work!

Wow. Very nice. Might be enough for me to hunt down Q3 in the bargain bin just to use that map if you release it.

Well, holy crap!

That looks fantastic and clearly took a lot of work. Can't wait to see what you (and hopefully others) will do with it.

Ok, A massive list of updates, for anyone that cares :P!

(And remember it is on the atiquated Q3 engine. So i've been restricted on quality and lighting in the renders.. it is playable though.. e.g. you can run around inside and outside!)

Got alot of the detail done. There is some left to do, plus the shuttles! Also lighting isn't final.. but it's getting there!

Amazing work.

How many artists did it take and how many total hours?

So what is this Jedi mind game?

All I found was this:

Then you work fast. Professional production speed.

How much did you spend on computer and software? What speed CPU, single or dual core, RAM, OS?

Ha, I could work much faster. Got a life to lead though :P

Well you can use the engine on a 4-5 year old computer, it runs on pretty much anything. Although I have forked a little for a good machine because I need it for 3dsmax rendering for my architecture course!

I could model it on 3dsmax but it'd take me too long. Besides people have already done it. I wanted to be the first to create something that you could actually role-play in. And yes, it is for a jedi game :P Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy. There's still an active modding community, (even after 6 years!)

Specs:

Overclocked 2.66ghz Core 2 Quad q6700 to 3.2ghz. 16gigs of DDR2 RAM and Windows 7 :)

I'd like that much RAM for my video work. A little extra dual core speed would be nice.

I can't get Windows 7 to work tho:

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
