over at http://www.buffyscripts.net/ they have what looks like the final shooting scripts for Firefly. Besides having most of the Chinese translated, there are also lines that got cut for one reason or another. (Timing, pacing, etc.)

Such as what Book's when Zoe shows them Mal's ear. "< Filthy fornicators of livestock! >"

But there are also other tidbits. Simon supported unification too, and originally it was much more clear that Mom and Dad were simply too terrified to do anything about River. Also Zoe grew up on spaceships, we learned that during her discussion with Wash about having kids in "Heart of Gold"

And some good jokes too got cut. (Okay *I* think they're good) From "Train Job"
ZOE
You figure Serenity's still
waitin' for us?
MAL
If they are, everyone's fired.

ZOE
And if they're not?

MAL
Everyone's fired.

Anyway, was wondering what folks might say to thinking these orphaned lines are canon. At least until a later episode airs something contrary to them?

"Wash, where is my damn spaceship?"

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have checked out all the scripts and found some of the cut lines to be funny.

As far as canon, I guess that depends on your take on "canon". As far as I am concerned, if it is in the script, it is canon.

Shiny. Pity they don't have the four scripts that weren't shot. Oh well... I hope Jos is saving them for season two

I'm not sure if they can be considered 'canon', because if they didn't make it to the final shooting script, then they could always be contradicted by future movies/episodes. I would consider the deleted scenes on the DVD to be 'canon' though (except for the re-shot scene with Mal and Inara at the beginning of Objects which was only done because of Fux idiot execs and the imminent threat of cancellation caused the shows to be aired out of order.

RIVER
Purple elephants are flying.
MAL
Good. Thanks for the update.

Okay, this is how I see it.

I want to consider the scripts cannon, except where contradicted by what was actually aired, (or rather in this case on the DVD). There are some exceptions to this. For example, in the script, River tells Doralee: "I pulled it out. I looked in her head and I pulled it out. She talks
in there." This is concerning Ruby's lack of speech. Essentially she tells Doralee and Simon she can read minds.

This clears up the confusion by Jayne in OIS later on.

Also, when the Patron is about to burn River, he has that line about how she is in "Congress with the Beast." In the gag reel, we see the actor blowing this line again and again, and it is finally cut. BUT surfaces later in OIS when Jayne is confused about her being a witch. "She's in Congress?" Sooo...

Some things, like Simon's support of Unification is trivial, in keeping with the character and what we have been shown. So I would accept this fact as cannon. Also there is nothing to suggest that Zoe did NOT grow up on space ships, and accept that as canon as well.

And will until and unless it is contradicted by what is shown.

There is one extra script, "Dead or Alive" on the site. I had heard there were 2 more, but have never seen them, nor heard anything else. Another poster says there were 4 unshot scripts? Really? Would love to hear more about them, and what stage they were in when the F&a%u@x network pulled the plug.

Accepting as canon unless otherwise contradicted by what we were shown on the DVD set seems perfectly acceptable and logical to me.
