A few observations from the end of the poll.
Everyone seemed to put forth their best effort there at the end. Word got around that the end was nigh.

Moonlight was coming on really strong, beating us regularly, and from what Rich was saying, they had the largest number of individuals voting, and few of them with timers. If they'd gotten organized & used FlyVote or something similar, things could've gotten mighty interesting. There's a whole lotta 'if' between where they ended up & first place (most centered around realizing that your show isn't coming back no matter what you do. So do you still vote?), but it would've been fun to see how things turned out.

It was a fun run. When we got started on this in earnest we were way down in the polls struggling to break the top 10 and I figured the best we could ever really hope for was to make it to the top 5. Now look at us top of the heap and holders of pretty much every record. Once again we have done the impossible.

Yup - miss it, miss it BAD. I think I started vumping when Firefly was below the Queer as Folk show so that's gotta be about two years give or take.
Even before I retired and was still working, I'd make sure I was near a computer every hour to do my bit for the little ship that could.
Imagine if we'd all chipped in a buck per vump? That'd be enough for a couple of Serenity sequels or a few years more of the series. *Sigh* wishful, wishful thinkin'.
Last year while I was at Dragon*Con for the inaugural march of the 76th my dear husband voted for me so he knew how much I cared about it.
Whether you all have known it or not, you've carried me through a LOT - my mom's illness and death - the most recent sadness of having my dog die and just the silly day to day stuff as well. I will miss this so much and hope we can come up with something else soon. Love you all.

Well, I'll keep plugging away at the other voting sites. Too bad the guys running TVTally aren't maintaining their code (there appear to be some cheat in play from time to time), as that one does seem to attract the same fandoms.

I think we'll eventually get another movie, because the continued sales of the DVDs has to register with the studio. It took Star Trek over a decade for their fan base to grow large enough to get the first movie made. It took in (world wide) four times its production cost ($35 million, which adjusted for inflation, would be over $90 million.)

How about a new rev of flyvote that pops up for TVTally every six hours, and has the other voting sites on it as well?

Hi, Browncoats!

Just wanted to thank all of you as personally as possible for your participation at TV_Vote! It was a great run and you guys made a lot of it happen!

As a long-time Joss Whedon fan, I hope he'll give us the next installment of the Firefly saga as a movie and more after that!

Thanks again to all of you - especially Flattop and Ray!

See you around the 'verse!

I second the kudos that everyone is shouting out. The interaction on this thread has had me laughing out loud at times and shedding a tear now and then as well.

It was the good humor of the participants (most of them) that got me to post the very first time and I've appreciated it ever since.

If it wasn't for a few core groupies that vumped all night and day or set up the stats so we had an idea of what we were doing to whom and when, then I'm not certain this thread would have had quite so "solid" a reputation.

A big Browncoat hug to Ray, Sister, Rallem, Leopard, FlatTop, Wytch, Fillygirl, and anyone else I forgot and didn't mean to. And especially to FlatRich for giving me something on which to focus my obsession with Firefly.
And a welcome to all the newish folk who have been stopping by - wish we had a chance to know you better.
You all rawk!!

Pats on the back to all here who gave the time to.....how did Sister say it, vote for the "ship that could". Feels very good to see those results and know it was a group effort. Sometimes it was an effort.

Just got back from the AMC Starship tournament and Serenity in the final round just hit 1000 to the Enterprises 632. Not bad. I just worry about the first round against the nerfherder and wookies ship, where we don't even have a 200 vote lead anymore, it used to be over 300.......

If ya don't have time to do the 2 minutes it takes to get through the tournament, just vote for Serenity in the first round, that's the one we could use the help on.

Once again, kudos to all on the Rich Labonte poll, those results are awesome! I'll kinda miss the daily thread on here......something I really got used to.

Slept in 'til 1:30pm, BUMP!

That was delicious, goin' to my bunk around midnight, gettin' up in the afternoon. A real battery-recharger. Spent the last hour or so checking emails, enjoying the thanks and kudos of some of the Browncoats along my Paul Revere route.

Still odd, though, not to be setting the alarm every hour for the *next* vote.

Glad to see the same ol' vumpers here, though!

It's gonna be tough to find anything worthy of our collective efforts, after Rich's Poll. As has been observed, even TV Tally is far, far too easily cheated on (the only way to stay competitive). Plus, you can only vote on it (legally) once every 6 hours, which makes the vumps fewer and farther between.

At any rate, it's been a great honor to be among such shiny, dedicated folks. I'll still be around; checking this thread is a bit like a ritual for me, keepin' up with my buds.

I voted for those space ships but have to say that while I probably would have voted for Serenity all the way through no matter what I am a little disappointed that some worthy ships like Voyager, Starbug, the Eagle from Space 1999, and Jupiter 2 were not in the competition. My list could go on, but it won't.

I also have to wonder about the pairings NEVER changing! I mean, I know Serenity would win no matter what the pairing, but it's as if the poll is on autopilot.

I would remove the stupid winnebago from space balls, and put in the Jupiter 2 from the original Lost in Space, and remove the Event Horizon and put in the Eagle from Space 1999, and remove the Borg Cube and put in the Galileo from Star Trek the original series and remove the Heart of Gold and put in the Galactica, or even a Viper. None of your suggestions were bad either. It's just kinda hard to take it seriously when they include an RV when voting for coolest ships.....

Also wouldn't pairing them up like they did in that poll potentially discriminate some really good ships that were against another really cool ship? Shouldn't they have made a list of ships and asked the voters to choose the top 10 and then from there move on to the next round?

I suppose we would be JUST a little biased yes.....who's going to argue with the biggest fan base though? Heee heeee heeee.

Something I noticed (probably the last to do so) was that they listed the nerfherder and his wookies ship (ok I'll say it, the Falcon) as being 27 meters long and Serenity is supposed to be 62 meters long. Looking at pics without any references for scale, I would never have guessed that big a difference. They look like they'd be around the same length......

FlyVoye was one of the most UNDERUTILIZED resources available in TV Vote. I didn't use it, myself, as I spent too much time away from the computer for a pop-up reminder to help me; instead, I kept a Timex travel alarm in my pocket, advancing the time after every vote.

But I tried to encourage all our friends to use FlyVote, whenever their circumstances permitted it. From the lack of affirmative response, I think many folks felt intimidated by the notion of downloading a program, even to help them vote. Of course, those who did, loved it!

Rich Labonte also promoted FlyVote, and also seemed surprised that more voters didn't use it.

Ah, well.

Bump.

Do you know how Canada got its name?

Yeah, that was what I recommended to folks who voted from work or school, keep a running tally next to their keyboard (I did that, too, along with the pocket alarm). But many folks simply didn't use FlyVote 'cause they didn't. A number eventually tried it, and universally lauded it.

Ah, well, too late, now. I was sorry I couldn't make more use of it, myself.

The need to vump - it's like a freight train or a huge ocean vessel - takes a long, long time to stop.
Gigantic black snake in my chicken coop - probably why the eggs are missing. Sucker climbed into the rafters when I tried to 'scoop' him up and haul him outta there. Certainly got the heart racing.
(*wonders if FT would like to try tiling the coop; or Ray would create stats involving how many eggs missing since snake sighted*)

Please be careful Sister with the snake. I don't know where you live so it might be poisonous. I know that here in Vermont we only have one poisonous snake and it only lives in the caves on the shores of lake Champlain so if I see a snake where I live, I know it won't be poisonous. Of course around here any snake I see is easilly identified as a garter snake and we leave them alone and encourage their residence because they eat the little pests like crickets.

Aww, Rallem, thanks! I will be careful - we've got several poisonous varieties in Tennessee - water moccasins, rattlers but I don't think this was one of those - more like what's called a corn snake or a rat or milk snake - still quite disconcerting to find him in one of my nest boxes! Thing is, these snakes climb trees (and now, apparently, rafters) so I'm going to be giving the ceiling an 'eye' before I head in there again.
