There are contrasting opinions about the killing-off of Wash and Book. But it did happen.
So, if our dreams came true and we got a second season of Firefly (or another movie), there would be two less characters.
Not to mention vacant spots left by actors who don't return.

So..there would have to be NEW CHARACTERS! New people to grace Serenity and become a part of our much loved crew.

Joss Whedon did a great job with his characters in Firefly, but what type of people do you think would make good editions to the fractured crew?

Perhaps Neil Patrick Harris could be Pilot Billy.

I think River would make a fine pilot, so I'm not sure that the crew would need any additions. Having a few less regulars on the ship though would mean that we could have some recurring characters elsewhere.

Hmmmm.
Avery Brooks as Dr. Jerome Entembe. -Freelance Stellar Cartographer. Ex-Head of the Star Scan Program.
Topher Grace as ex-Alliance Pilot William McKnight (the name may sound corny but it is "lifted" from Canadian History). -Possible foil/antagonism possibilities with Mal, and Zoe as McKnight's story unfolds...
Jane Seymour as Shepherdess Lania Marks. -An old friend of Shepherd Book's. Following Book's trail in order to fathom the loss of her good friend...read that as what it could be...
Boy I am gonna chew on this.
Have to make sure Serenity's hold doesn't end up looking like it did at the end of "Shindig".

Great Idea. I think he would fit perfectly in "the verse".

Exactly

Sarah Silverman as Cookie. A futuristic Annie Oakley that tags along on serenity.

Jeff Bridges as The evil Alliance leader

James Naughton as Inara's Father. ?I don't know why, just feeling creative!

Ships cat, gotta have one.

I can just see Jayne sneaking it aboard and then denying it or blaming Simon, lol.
"Don't look at me, he's the one bringin strays onboard!"

And Mal pretending to be pissed off about the idea and getting caught on the bridge by Zoe with it in his lap.

Zoe: "I thought we were gonna toss it off the ship?"

Mal: "Umm, umm, just lulling into a false sense of security here, tactical surprise and all that..."

Zoe: "Right... sir."

Life in ANY 'verse is definitely more interesting with cats.

And NPH is just fun no matter where he shows up.

Color me crazy, but I like the idea of a Shepherdess. And Jane Seymour could probably pull it off. She might have some history with Book, from their life back in the world...

A cat would be great, and as cats are seen as being sensual creatures (sometimes) it could sort of belong to River. She'd maybe understand the cat, but I don't mean cat-human communication. She'd just have a strong connection with it. Like that Jayne might bring it onboard though..lol

Ni Hao , One-Five-One !

What are you doing , flying with us brigands ?

No worries , though...Like Miss Kaylee , I'm sure that you checked it out with your folks before you got steerage with us...

To answer your question , I'd like to see Roberta Murgo onboard Serenity , perhaps as an apprentice of Inara's , but she'd be a good friend to Kaylee as well...

Roberta Murgo--

(I'm going to the 'special' hell...)

I'd also like to meet Mal's mum , at least in flashback , and she'd be played by Barbara Hershey...

Good thread , by the way , so thanks for the post...We Love to get post , and we Love meetin' new Folk and hearing their interesting stories...

You'd be Welcome in Virtual Firefly , if you like...

I'm on Tranquility , we could probably find a spot for you , 'til you could find better ; maybe even help to man the flight deck , if you like...I'd have to check it out with the Cap'n , if you'd like to help us keep 'er in the Air...

First some new passengers like in the Pilot. We get to see them and know them a little. Maybe a troupe of belly dancers en route to the core, or an elderly master thief hiding out for a spell. Somehow they interact with the crew in critical situations that affect all, and new bonds and friendships are formed.

I think I can trust The Joss to create more characters that I will like. Perhaps a compromise with the Alliance to clandestinely transport various cargoes and personnel. Need a pilot, perhaps a fighter pilot.

The difference between God and fighter pilot is God will not tell you he is a fighter pilot in the first fifteen seconds of conversation.

At odds with Zoe, argument and stress with a few redemptions and fights afterwards. A bit like Hot Lips and Hawkeye I guess. Wasn't that done once already?

A character like Doc of A team (wincing)?

I'd watch it if The Joss does it. Bottom line.

One little point. The BDM does not follow straight after the end of our one and only season, so why not slot season two BETWEEN the end of season one and the BDM? Then we can keep all our favourites and have some fun filling in backstory for some of the things that will crop up in the movie as well as have other totally unrelated adventures. Obviously the comics would have to be factored in depending upon what timeline is used.

Wash's first(!) wife - the anti-Zoe, a petite blonde domestic goddess. Played by, who else, Kristen Bell, possibly with child in tow.

And the cat thing sounds good.

If the show has lasted longer, I imagine like BUFFY and ANGEL that the show would have had a revolving door type cast.

I like the idea of the ex-Alliance fighter pilot. There should also be a Chinese cast member on the show to actually show off the ethnicity of the world. Maybe John Cho could be a good addition.

I would like to see a variation of the Shooter character I came up with. A guy who grew up on a border planet, worked for the Alliance for a bit, and then quit and becomes a freelance drifter across the verse ("Jai guru deva om" I'm sorry. I just have to say that.) as maybe a tech guy, and he becomes like the crews own personal Mr. Universe. And to have another contrasting P.O.V. on board as a foil for Mal, he'd have a highly tuned sense of spirituality. A real one with the universe type. He managed to escape from a Reaver attack and had a spiritual epiphany in the process, so he sees God and beauty and wonder in everything. I always imagined him and Mal would have a scene similar to the Sean Penn and Jim Cavizel in the beginning of THE THIN RED LINE.

"In these worlds, a man, himself? Is nothing. And there ain't no worlds, but this one."
"You're wrong there Mal. I've seen something beyond this world. Sometimes I think it was just my imagination."
"Well then you've seen things I never will."

I'd still like the filmmaker angle to be in there so that when they're in another Reaver chase, and everyone's scared and fleeing for safety, Shooter would be hanging off the side of the ship with a camera determined to get the perfect shot and yelling stuff like "Where the Hell are my Gorram CLOUDS!!!"

Like Reginaroadie I think it would be good to see a chinese crew member. It's supposed to be a multicultural world, but I don't see many important chinese characters..

Sorry Out2theblack, but I've joined another rp and possibly a second (!!) (both as Simon) very suddenly. I couldn't join the Wash as I'd planned either. It's just not fair to be on too many ships at once.

Not just Chinese, but of all different ethnic backgrounds. I'd like to have seen Indian, Native American, Middle Eastern, all different races. You have Zoe and Book and Inara (they never addressed it, but Inara is Latina, since Morena is from Brazil), but the rest of the cast is fairly whitebread.

I always thought FUTURAMA had without a doubt the most diverse cast of a sci-fi series. Fry's the only young white male. The rest of the cast consists of a Mexican robot, a mutant, a Chinese girl from Mars, a Jamaican bureaucrat, a Crustacean doctor and a 150 year old man, plus millions of different kinds of robots and aliens.

I think if the show had lasted seven or so years, that the only original cast members left would have been Mal, Jayne and River. I think everyone else would have either died or left the ship for their own reasons. Although personally, I would have had River be the first person to leave the ship. She was the last one to board the ship, so symbolically, she should be the first to leave, so that she could go on her own journey to find out who she is.

I always thought Badger or Yosaffbridge would have made an interesting addition to the crew. Kinda replace Jayne as the untrustworthy one (I think Jayne would have mellowed after the BDM). Jeez, imagine if he'd become a sheperd. It was actually foreshadowed a coupla times lmao
And I'll add my vote for a Chinese crew member.
But i also liked the idea of Inara having an apprentice.
So maybe a Chinese apprentice Companion. Who's good friends with Kaylee

"Gorramit Mal... I've forgotten my line."

I’m a little late to the party here but felt I’d add my 2 square.

Forgive me but I feel a cringe every time I hear the word “replacement” . There is no replacing Wash nor Shepherd Book. There may be a vacancy where some cast member (such as River) or the introduction of a new pilot but one just can’t fill the shoes of either Ron or Alan. I know this isn’t what fellow browncoats ment so don’t get the wrong idea that I didn’t get what’s been said.

NPH, would make a good addition I agree and a Chinese character is a very good idea. I don’t think that River is ready to pilot the ship though (JMO) Don’t get me wrong she is a very capable candidate it’s just those moments of crazy lunacy where she freaks out at some human suffering may cause her to slam Serenity into the nearest floating space rock. I don’t believe the girl has been cured after her bit with the reavers on Miranda or Mr. Universes planet. There is still suffering in the verse both caused by the Alliance and not. Her “seeing “ ability and able ness to connect emotionally to others in the verse has not been conquered or tamed in my opinion. What fun would that be?

Anyway, there are dozens of new character who could be introduced into a new season(s) of FF, and bringing back Badger and Saffron would really be a hoot. Hell I’d even like to see Niska’s nasty self again. There are so many areas left to explore.

I’m here watin, Z
