How much would it take to buy the rights of Firefly/Serenity from 20th century fox?

Guesses anyone?

Why doesn't Joss do it himself?

This has been asked over and over, in the several Millions...BUT F*X WON"T SELL!
Also, Fox owns "Firefly" not "Serenity", Universal owns that.

Joss doesn't have that kind of money, and once you have the rights where will you get the millions needed to MAKE it?

...if someone could win the lottery...(a very big lottery)

It would take more money than Joss has, even if 'Fox was interested in selling. People have been asking this question for going on about 6 years, now. If Joss could have, he might have by now, don'tcha think?

Rumor has it, though, that the rights to the television version will expire in the next few years or so. But, who am I to believe in rumors? Also, there may be other contractual obligations that prevents Joss from going to other networks without 'Fox having the first rights of refusal, as it were.

Who knows the mind of Hollywood. The Television industry is brutal and insane.

Still, we live in hope. ^^

Have you seen Joss Whedon's little internet experiment Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Watch it now on http://drhorrible.com Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer. Itunes only Soundtrack made the top 40 album list.

Joss thinks it may break even soon...DVD before Christmas.

I would venture a guess somewhere between $50-75M.
Because of the potential hundreds of millions one could make if they made more eps of Firefly. The DVD sales alone would probably net $100M easy.

Which brings me to my next guess (although some what whimsical in the brainpan): I strongly believe that season 2 (and beyond) will rely upon the Blu-Ray sales numbers. If they are anything like the sales for the original series DVD set($60M I believe was the number, and counting).

Some semi-concious exec will figure out: "Hmmm, If we make more episodes, we'll make more money. Even if it goes straight to DVD."

Fox or Universal, don't care pretty much who.

I know, it's waaaaaay out there, but there it is.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!

Also they will be looking at Dr. Horrible's DVD sales. One 42 minute episode and lot of DVD extras. Soundtrack sales probably won't be taken into account unless we have a musical Firefly/Serenity episode.
