UNWRAPTOID

Hi! I'm new to this whole fandom thing, and I just wanted to give my take on Firefly.

Mal and Zoe are like Bonnie & Clyde- they are bandits who don't mind going beyond the law because they found that living by the rules of the mostly benevolent Alliance establishment was too constricting for their lawless ways. Even Wash says in the Serenity pt 1 & 2 episode that if everything were right, they'd all be in an Alliance prison somewhere.
I find this show highly entertaining from that standpoint, however, I'd have liked it just a little more if we'd seen them get caught at least once in the series, and blast their way out, showing how much like western outlaws they really were. In the movie Serenity, a couple of crew members got what they deserved for causing so much disruption of the 'verse they had come to use as theyre own playground, and so I feel that movie captures their dangerous ways somewhat better than the series, in which they pay no substancial price for their moral misdeeds.
This show and movie are the perfect antidote from those crappy Star Wars movies that depict rebels & seditionists as some kind of heroes, and the establishment as the pure evil enemy- when the characters in Firefly refer to themselves as big damn heroes, I really get the self mocking joke there- of course they'd have to see themselves that way, just the way Bonnie & Clyde, or Thelma & Louise did.
I also like the way they show that the Alliance is basically good in it's intentions although it has some unseemly elements, like all societies do, like ours has the extreme left wing that wants to control our minds and make up stuff like global climate blagh blagh, and say that every ruthless dictator we put down was really just a misunderstoopd product of our covert creation at some fanciful time in the past.

This is the story of rogues, of basically unlikeable people on the edge of society that deep down see that theyve chosen the wrong path, but find a way to live with it. It's really a great character study, and entertaining as hell!

So anyway, Hi everyone! Ilook foward to some great discussion, but I'm not going to post in the real world forum, where some weird people go to abuse this country- it seems like it doesn't belong on a site celebrating a show about depicting the shady side of humanity, and it's pitfalls.
