Retired but became a Browncoat on deployment. Close enough?

10 years USN if you're counting vets.
The 76th has a share of vets as well.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Former US Army Ranger here.

I read your thread title and immediately thought you were referring to the 76th Battalion!

these guys:

Some of them are active military.

Outside the 76th I know 2 Navy Browncoats (one is no longer active duty), 1 sniper retired working now for blackwater, 1 no longer active army (shrapnel injury) and 1 retired Marine Recon. Sorry I can't think of any more active ones i know outside of the 76th!

Browncoats are the shiniest folks in the 'verse

That's so cool, that pic of the 76th. yeah, i figured i wasn't alone here. i know a lot of my buddies discovered firefly while on deployment, i saw it during it's first run on fox a million years ago back in 2002 when i was like fifteen.
i think that even though you can spot that it was written by a civilian ( cause, you know, in the pilot mal's a sergeant and zoe keeps calling him sir) i think that firefly appeals to military folk quite a bit. their lives are rough, so they enjoy the little things, like fresh fruit, or a good day with each other, or getting drunk and telling a good story about something your friend did that was stupid. it's the additude that they have, where even if you cant stand the guy( and this has happened to me several times with people in my unit) that if the moron is about to get his head handed to him you and your friends help him out. because even though he's a moron, he's part of the unit.

Awesome as always,
Lester

MANWITHPEZ

Important people don't do field work.

USAF for almost 12 years here. On my way out the door in May, actually. Not without my bachelor's degree, however. (And no, it didn't take me 12 years to get it. I'm just lazy and waited until my last year to try).

Have made several converts on deployment in Iraq, however.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

that's cool. ive been in for two, and have been at my first duty station here in lovely georgia for a year and just now got a driver's permit.
(cause i was lazy and didn't need one where i'm from. a 1.25$ gets you where you need to go.)

Awesome as always,
Lester
