I'm sure this has been suggested before, but why not raise money for The Big Damned Sequel? I'm sure there have been petitions and emails sent out in the past. But why not get a hold of some movie exec and get a number. There are enough Browncoats like me that would shell out a few bills for it. There are plenty of loaded Browncoats too that could shell out more coin. We could start an organization and raise funds for it. I'm certain we could get the BDHs to donate some items for us to sell. Just a thought and if there are enough of us interested, I'd invest the time to work on it.

We won't let them take the sky from us -

Howdy, THC! I'm pretty sure that, in the last 6 months, somebody on this board put forth a proposal virtually identical to yours. Folks who have been around here a hell of a lot longer than myself proceeded to basically explain to said poster why it's not that simple. I can't remember any of the objections/explanations in much detail (a lot of it seems to boil down to Fox and Universal owning certain rights to the property), but largely they carried the weight of experience, not to mention starry-eyed optimism tempered ever so gently by harsh reality. There's nobody here that wouldn't squee uncontrollably over just getting the series revived. The fact that it hasn't happened yet isn't for lack of imaginative thinking and extensive footwork on the part of many here. You allowed in your post for the possibility that others have made the same proposal, so I know you don't think you're the Bringer of Fire and Inventor of the Wheel. But I think anymore that the occurence every month or 2 of some bright soul piping up with a brilliant, enthusiastic scheme for wresting Firefly/Serenity back from philistines and vandals...well, if you run across a man in the desert dying of thirst, and you ask him why he just doesn't pull a canteen out of his ass and take a drink, don't be too surprised at the reception you get.

Me, I've spent most of my relatively moneyless life thinking that there was no problem that money - in sufficient quantities - could not solve. It seems I've still got a lot of growing-up to do.

You're undeniably right about one thing: There are plenty of loaded Browncoats...and some of them even have money.

EDIT to add "doesn't" and wickedly amusing closer.

It was like that when we got here!

This has been suggested time and time again. And time and time again, it has been shown that this just won't work for many many reasons, some of them legal. Search the archives. There are tonnes of threads filled with the reasons why this won't work.

I haven't commented on this subject in a long time. For one I don't want to discourage new fans, it's such a wonderful intense feeling to be so completely enamored of Firefly. Two...I hate being a bummer.

But...Sigmanunki is right. Here is what I come up with when I do a FFF.net search at his helpful search site...

http://www.google.com/search?domains=fireflyfans.net&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
&q=raising+money+for+the+sequel&sitesearch=fireflyfans.net&btnG=Google+Search

Thread after thread of honest and forthright discussion about this very subject. It's been talked about over and over again. There are many obstacles to it's going ahead as you can see. Rights and who owns them, bucking the business model in Hollywood that's been in place forever, the interest of Joss and the actors and writers ( who all seem very busy right now! ).

Instead of banging our heads against a wall, why don't we all do what we can do:

Share the 'Verse with our friends and family as the tv show and movie that we love, be involved in the real life community of the 'Verse as much as possible, promote and take part in the various wonderful charities in this fandom. And last but not least, enjoy our time together on the boards, at shindigs and at the yearly screenings and conventions.

It's really not in our hands to revive FF/S. The time for that is over. It's in the hands of the money counters and the popularity and power of Joss and the actors. The only thing we can do is be here. Be here and be strong and find things to do that are positive with the fervor and interest that we have.

Instead of making this thread a bummer, let's list things we can do, charities to be involved in and fun stuff that's happening in the 'Verse.

A few that come to mind:

Kids Need to Read ( www.kidsneedtoread.org)

Can't Stop the Serenity ( www.cantstoptheserenity.com)

Martin Firrell's Hero Project ( www.completehero.com)

Looking for something fun? Check out Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog. ( www.drhorrible.com)

and that's just off the top of my head. There's plenty of meaningful stuff to occupy our time while we wait for our miracle. If nothing else, hang around here and chat with all the shiny Browncoats. It never gets lonely here.

NCBROWNCOAT

And watch the shows the BDH's are currently involved in or will be in the near future:

Adam Baldwin, Chuck (NBC)
Summer Glau, TSCC (FOX)
Nathan Fillion, Castle (ABC)to premiere in January. He also has a movie out in January, Chilled in Miami
Joss Whedon, Dollhouse (Fox)
Jewel Staite, Stargate Atlantis (SCIFI)
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men (AMC) and Life (NBC)

Sean, Alan, Moreana, Gina and Ron are all doing guest roles in various series or have projects in post production.

Oh, and get involved with your local Browncoat group and the various charities (CSTS, KNTR Marine Corps Law Enforcement League etc) that Browncoats either have founded or support.

FM is right. These topics tend to get... subdued quickly.

One could help out with this FF mod for EV Nova:

http://s4.invisionfree.com/GunRunner/index.php?act=idx

I would help, but I don't actually own EV Nova.

I myself have being trickling some time into a game engine over the past while. Perhaps one day it'll become something.

There's also writing fan fic, participating in on-line (forum based, etc) RPG and fan art.

Just make sure that no money exchanges hands. The powers that be tend to get ornery if someone starts making money off there "property."
