First, you ought to know by now the chances of a "firsties dance" from me. Second, one mustn't say "snow" until after it actually happens. Saying it before is tantamount to challenging Mutha Nature. XD

I volunteer. At least this way if it doesn't wor I won't have to deal with the snow anyway!

Morning NVG! I haven't moved because I have yet to find an area with as much usuable fresh water as here. I would go crazy if I could not pick a random direction (in the summer) and find a swimmable lake in minutes.

I got out once (the Army) and for some reason when I ETS-ed I came home for a visit and never managed to leave.

That is a very good reason for loving a particular area. Strangely a lot of the Navy folk who were stationed then retired here liked the lack of substabtial snowfall in the winter, the wonderful transition months of spring and fall which were absolutely divine this year, and the available water sources. There is a fair amount of reservoirs, streams, and lakes here. Yeah, all that for a farming community with a nearby Naval base, within 60 miles of REno, 80 from Tahoe, three hours from the bay area, close to I-80...

I could just go on and on. I could go off on stupid people as usual but they are a plague that pretty everyone must put up with.

Yeah but it is not the same. Have you ever actually look upon the Great Lakes?

A friend of mine brought home his girlfriend from Denver one year and the first thing he did was took her to Lake Michigan. She looked out and actually asked, knowing that they were in Michigan (not the smartest girl obviously) if it was the ocean.

What most people concider a "lake" doesn't even rate as a pond compared to what I see daily. I R 1 Spoiled Bastard!

Open space is my biggest draw. It is within driving distance, I rarely compete with people for that space.

see i grew up in a rural area, and the nearest "city" is more like a busy town than a real city city >< the closest *actual* city is only about a half an hour away, but in my town cows used to out-populate people XD and we still have a couple substantial cow farms in town :P so i'm used to it being more quiet and less busy. Don't much like the noise of cities.

Hello from the inland freshwater sea which is Lake Ontario! Technically, she was right in her impression, although oceans are much bigger...the Great Lakes are each bigger than some states for pity's sake! It's an impressive sight right out to the horizon and as far as you can see up and down the shore. Mind you, Niagara Falls is a little easier to wrap your head around.

I'm also nestled firmly in the Fingerlakes Region. There's lots and lots of smaller and larger bodies of freshwater hereabouts.

We also get a special subset of frosty flakes: Lake Effect. Does anyone else experience the phenomenon?

*sheepishly walks in*

I like the way you all sidestepped the ranty man last night, a collective let him get on with it in the corner. Thoroughly deserved it turns out as in the light of day we can now see the repocession notices so it was them who turned off our gas and I feel distinctly sad about the whole thing.

FLT, we haven't had any frosty flakes either if it cheers you up any.

As for growing up, I grew up in a small market town near the biggest man made lake in Europe, kind of tiny in the scale you're talking about (the circuit of the shoreline is about 26 miles, they do run a marathon round it which insane because of all the hills!) and now live in a city and beginning to seriously miss countyside and open space although the opportunities for music are greatly increased in the city I live in even if it isn't that great to somewhere like Cambridge where I used to live.

There's a bbc program on at the mo with Stephen Fry travelling across America and there were some amazing eco houses that were off the grid near Santa Fe that I'd love to move to but sadly think being too far from the family would scupper it.

Anyway, got to get on

*wanders off to work*

should we be worried about this new addiction of yours HK?

The smaller lakes aren't nearly that large. They pack a lot of scenic, though. Onondaga is in desperate need of cleaning up, but you can still swim in Oneida. Skaneateles is where we get our drinking water, as is Otisco. We've got a "mountain goat" run every year through the city. If you want a bicycle ride that's considered to be harder than the Rocky Mountains you can come over and give Route 20 near LaFayette a try.

We spent a few days in Mooreton On Marsh down in the Cotswolds on our honeymoon, and walked around to some of the other villages in the area. (Morris dancers, we.) There are pubs older than our nation. We've felt the same way about several places. That and they don't have particle accelerators.
Off the grid sounds good, but we'd need electric or you'd never hear from us again...

Hey SR,

we try not to mention Morris men, they're scary to us too.

As for the eco house, because of savings in pumping heat/water round the house, they could run all their standard electronics ie tfts and computers from solar panels.

You can't go swimming in Rutland Water and we lost several dogs a couple of years ago to blue/green algae but we do get Osprey breeding their, taking trout and generally being beuatiful.

I'm going to either work or fall asleep now, not sure which.

Hiya SR! Ontario eh? I figured that next to JQ my closest contact was teh Sneaky Lass.

Lake Effect is about all we get 'round these parts. (Does the Michigan "hand" map and points between pinky and ring finger) That be where I reside. Grand Traverse Bay to the East and West! Water water everywhere, even in the sky!

So how did your meeting go? I understand if ya don't wanna talk or don't wanna talk on a public board.
Um. It was actually pretty good. ((flinch!)) ((waits for lightning to strike her))
New boss is incredibly arrogant and sometimes a dick, but he's a very smart man with a lot of experience,
which is something I can respect. It was obvious to him that I wasn't happy...
so we discussed a few things, and I gracefully restrained myself
from calling my previous boss a useless cunt.
Oops! Sorry! I mean c**t. ^__^

So... I dunno... I'm still paranoid about everything, but at least it was a good start. At least maybe the chest pain will start to diminish....

If ya wanna scream and yell privately just drop me an e-mail Lassy.
Is that an open invitation? XD
Some people pay for that.....

GEE

Hey HK & Kel,

Oh how you cheer me up HK, a voice of sanity, charm and wit in this horrible world.

Weird kind of day, slowly productive but at none of the things I was planning.

Looking forward to Monday, get to break out my 25Ib plates for teh weights and already looking forward to football Monday night.

Off to cinema tonight, anybody got any plans for the weekend.
