You collect pipecleaner jedi, you say?

I just ditched a handful of the little guys, and one probable Batman. (They're adorable, but they're still clutter.)

If you have a home open to them I will cheerfully send them to you!

I've already got enough maternal guilt over getting rid of anything my baby makes, but it's either that or be wading neck deep in glitter and crap by the time he goes to college. What is it about your child that makes you feel like everything they do is better than anything Michelangelo, Leonardo, or Pablo ever did? It's a f***ing clothespin reindeer for crying out loud, not a Rodin!

Wolverine is not only awesomer, he's at least slightly more mentally stable. Batman's just a professor gadget with a personality disorder running around in bondage gear in comparison.

Also, Hugh Jackman is versexxi.

The kids make the jedi, that's the whole catch to it. They're little twists of pipecleaner with a bead or other knobby bit on the end and a wee little fuzzy lightsaber. None of them are much over an inch tall.

I can't send them to anyone if I don't have addresses to send them to, so if you seriously want one PM me and I'll start sifting through the trash basket. (Nothing icky or sticky in the bags, food upstairs is verboten. Just some dust.)

Just a few more hours until boychild is safely asleep and Santa can drop off the haul, then I can go to bed! Yay bed!

Oh.. the room is clean, mostly organized, and we even found linear feet of shelf space for incoming items to be weeded through next year. Whew! (You don't want to know how long it took, even *with* adult supervision and assistance. Really.)

We had this absolutely gorgeous ham, the green bean casserole turned out to be really really good (don't know what mom did differently this time, but it sure as heck was good!), the stuffing was almost perfect (just a bit dry, but that was my fault). And the apple pie... was really really good (despite mom not putting any honey in despite my requests )

Sounds like you had a good Christmas:)

Yeah the lovely Chrysler people are true morons. Two separate problems.
1- They changed my lease to a loan to buy the car and forgot to tell me to go down to the Utah DMV and sign something..fast forward a5 months they find their error but at this point I live in NV and they can't legally sell here. So I have a signed copy of a loan agreement that violates NV law. They are trying to fix it but it's not looking good
2- I sent my loan documents in with first month's payment attached. Some idiot detaches it and sends it to the lease people The lease people refund me for an overpayment and 2 months later Chrysler sends me a bill saying I am 1 month behind on my loan. I make an extra car payment that month and fix it. Fast forward 6 months. They call and say I am still one month behind. I review the incident for them and they claim my direct deposit did not start until July... yet my bank statements show it started in May. So now I have to go to my bank and have them fax the statements. Chrysler has been reporting me as delinquent to credit reports... so now I have to prove their clerical error and get them to fix it YET AGAIN.
NEVER EVER get a car from Chrysler Financial... they are utterly incompetent

OOOH, good luck getting the credit report fixed. I have had similar situations, and it took me 3 years to get it fixed. I was named after my dad, but ended up changing my name because the credit places couldn't tell the difference between our ssn's. I had all kinds of mis-reporting from my dad, my mom, and even a brother at one point. 7 years later, it's still not fixed, despite having my paralegal sister in law use her boss to send threatening letters.

my comp contracted this fucking HORRIBLE bitch-ass virus on xmas day. it shows up as an antispyware popup called "spyware guard 2008" with a green shield emblem. Apparently it's rampant and dangerous and totally locks up ur comp (as i found out). i didn't even click ANYTHING on it and it still loaded to my computer. of course, AFTER this happened, my mom sent out an email about this very virus saying that as *soon* as u see that popup, cold shutdown ur comp. needless to say i had to wipe and reformat my whole comp, so i'm finally back online *phew*

just a warning to all of you.

another fortunate happening. i was able to pull all of my important files (aka all of my stories/works in progress) to a thumbdrive without the virus finding it *sneaky* so fortunately i didnt lose any of that. that would have made me uber upset ><

Next stop: mmmmead!

I decided to, since we were almost out of honey, peek around online for nearby bulk honey suppliers. I found one about an hour and a half away, near where some friends live.

After a nice half hour chatting with the fellow selling the honey (if you express interest in someone's slightly eccentric hobby/livelihood/obsession be prepared to talk.. especially out in the countryside, but it's all good.) we loaded the car with:
1 gallon of buckwheat honey
1 gallon of wildflower honey
5 gallons of fall flower honey
2 sections of cut comb honey

at perfectly reasonable rates, even.

So that's 12 plus 12 plus 60 equals oh.. eighty four pounds of honey not including another pound for the comb, plus the three little honey "straws" the old feller gave my son for being an enthusiastic learner.

Apart from using it for sweetening things and baking, the only thing to do is try making some mead. Darn. Poor me. Poor my friends if it turns out all right. Sigh.

Well made mead is a beautiful thing. Unwell made mead says it all. Luckily I have many people to learn from who are quite good at it.

MSA, you should hear the description of prickly pear mead by an author of a brewing book Doctroid was reading to me from... it is apparently beyond amazing.

Mesquite honey is supposed to be really neat stuff. I got buckwheat honey yesterday. It has a distinctive flavor that not everybody likes, but I find it delightful.

If you're bored and have a few square yards of space at your place you can try hives of your own. It's not hard, and can be quite soothing as a hobby. I'm not keeping bees right now, but the satisfaction I got from putting up my own honey from my own bees was quite fun.

It will also improve your garden and those of your neighbors for up to three miles around, as pollination is a good thing and bees excel at it. Small scale beekeepers may be the salvation of local farms, since there's so much trouble with disease and die off of hives right now. It's easier to monitor and treat a few hives you keep an eye on than it is for commercial scale apiarists. Bees that don't travel from one area to another also don't have as much chance to spread nasties on their merry little way. (oops.. sustainable eco-rant over. sorry)

But yeah, honey good!

Push the fluids for NV. Several sips per minute if he can manage, and if it seems like bronchitis don't fuck around with it. Pneumonia is not your friend. Anything chunky and odd colored coming out of your airway is a bad sign.

I still can't get used to the idea of dry and hot climate gardening. The thought of being able to direct seed tomatoes and grow figs and citrus is just odd to me. Have you gotten irrigation issues planned for, or do you get more rainfall than I think you do?

I strongly recommend reading up and talking to local beekeepers before jumping in with both feet.

Try "The How-to-do-it book of Beekeeping" by Richard Taylor. I'm pretty sure it's out of print, but you should be able to find or request a copy somewhere.
Also: "Gaia's Garden, a guide to home-scale permaculture" by Toby Hemenway is a very nice book with good suggestions for making your life easier in the garden way. "Start with the Soil" is another good one (I cannot remember the author off hand, sorry).

Or you can just dig up some dirt, thrown in some seeds, water and weed if and when you remember, and hope something comes up and bears fruit.

Whatever.

They're over at the pyre if you need them, dear.

I just found out that Doctroid told everyone the party was starting two hours before I thought it did. Now I just need to recalibrate my cooking scheule....

Still going to be a fun time! Including us there's at least 18 showing up, plus probably several we just haven't heard from. Yay!

We were introduced to a card game this week. Fluxx. Actually we were introduced to Monty Python Fluxx which is way more fun if you're a Python fan. The original game is fine, and somewhat more kid friendly.. I mean how can you argue with a game that may have a goal of "milk and cookies"? Or "war and death" is another option...

There are several kinds of cards, "goals" "actions" "rules" and "keepers". MPF also has "creepers" which just add to the fun. The goal and the rules change as you play the cards. In fact the way you play changes as you play. It's a definite mind flexion exercise. You can be one turn away from winning only to have it completely blown out of the water.
There's also "Zombie Fluxx" and another variant or two.

We just finished a game of Yahtzee! and boychild's in bed.

Um... Hmm... Well...

Wow. You do realize that right now is concidered a "Time of War"? OK Dumb question there CMH since you were going over to Iraq before all this. Anyway, they are quite a bit harsher for shit like this during this time. I would suggest you think on that before you continue your life on the lam.
