Howdy browncoats and good morning,

First I have to get something off my chest, I HATE FOX.

I know there are folks here that say let bygones be bygones but I ain’t for that. They did an injustice to Joss W, and most of all Joss W fans and now forgivness? HELL NO!!

FIREFLY was one of the best shows to ever air on tv and to think that LOST ( which I am still watching )had 20 million viewers is forth year premiere while FF only had one season……well it just makes me sick. Sorry but I’m a little emotional about this.

So f*>< has had a changing of the guard…..so what, that just means that they should have realized their mistake and been truthful about their mistake and made it right. It isn’t about money….it’s about company leadership not wanting to admit a mistake and that they were wrong. Firefly could have had 30 million, 50 million viewers by now if the network that I won’t speak about had gotten their head out of their ass.

It could have been better than LOST. Better than a lot of what’s on tv now, but no, being the assholes that they are the company refuses to admit fault. I have seen numerous shows with our BDHs in them, they always make me think, “ I sure wish they were back on FF.”

I will watch Dollhouse for a time, to support Joss, and I tell ya it was sure good to see Nathan in the commercials for “Castle” during LOST. I enjoy CHUCK and take nothing away from the actors and creators of that show. Seeing Saffron on LIFE ( Christina Hendricks) and Jewel and Morena and Alan and Ron and Summer and Mark Shepherd all doing other thing is always uplifting, but to think of what could have been makes me nauseous.

Anyway, I don’t know how the rest of you feel holding the line but I’m still here. Knee deep in muck and wanting more….. I will never go away so F*>< better get used to it!!

I kinda like Fox. It's flawed, but then, as MSM goes, it's less so. Fox actually aired Firefly, and paid for more episodes after it was cancelled, a shoe in as a money loser. Real sci-fi needs about five million viewers to support itself. I think they're doing their best to co-promote terminator and dollhouse, hoping to draw in a double audience for both shows.

[edit]
My recollection was that Fox lost a ton on firefly, and then they shelled out 25 million for DVD only eps. and lost money, and now are giving Joss another shot with Dollhouse. They're in the business of making money, and they air a lot of cheap low brow content, it's not the divine right of artist to have their creations paid for. At least someone put up some money, and with very few demands. "Network" shows all have this tenor to them that make me go oog, the eye candy leads have no color, and they're romance is as boring and irrelevant as their attempts at comic subplots. I have yet to see a really impressive network show. (Network: A communications group that mandates that affiliates run programming in excess of 20 hours per week.)

So far, the bet american stuff I've seen comes from Fox, premium channels, and some cable channels like sci-fi, though I'm disappointed in everything post bonnie hammer to date still.

[re-edit]

Even Buffy hit an on air peak of around 4 million. Expecting much more than that for firefly is unrealistic. The television audience is not the high brow consumer on average. So unless you want to see Jayne goes to the planet of the massive 40 minute pie eating contest, then you're not going to get it.

Every time I come back, another new Browncoat is getting it off their chest. That's not a complaint - it's good to do that. Let it out. Don't hang on to it, because really, hating Fox is just going to poison your spirit, which means they're still having an effect on you.

You wanna give them that kind of power? That's up to you, friend.

It is my concerted opinion that Network TV really isn't worth the high quality of passion you're obviously willing to devote to your hatred of it. You're better than they are because you care about something - don't waste all that shiny and most glorious passion on them.

I have learned to get past my hatred, but then I've worked at it for six years. I will never - ever - trust Network TV again. Primarily because I have an unfortunate habit myself of falling for quality TV just to have it cancelled at the end of a season.

But, that's me. You go on now, do what you want. You're a Browncoat, and the 'verse... well, part of it anyway, is still an open range.

Thank you for the comments from my fellow browncoats.

I will add this last little thing then it is off to work for me ( I’m working nights this week)

Dreamtrove and Channain, I understand that F*>< spent money on FF. Even after it’s cancellation. But who do you account for showing the entire series out of order? I don’t give a rats rear-end that they spent money after the fact. They doomed it from the start. Should there be a surprise?

So it didn’t make money in the beginning, I can go with that’s but since it has proven to be a good, solid show…..and still they do nothing. What do you make of that?

I tell you what I think, the upper management of F*>< are a bunch of ass-kissers that tell whomever is in charge that they are right! Scarred for their job and agreeing with the all mighty leadership that says if the sky is red…. are willing to say that it does have a crimson tint to it. Will I make someone mad with this post….I hope the hell so!!

I work for a company that spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on new equipment, yet won’t hire back any of the 10 employees that they laid off due to what they call economic reasons. Is that right? They preach employee value and want employee input but sure as hell don’t practice what they preach.

I know this seems to have nothing to do with Firefly but in a way it does. People work hard and they try to do a good job but what does it mean if doing your best gets you shit-caned?

If there are any F*>< exects that come here and read any of this then they can know that they havent’ pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes. F*>< set up FF to fail and they succeeded. Whether it was to put Joss in his place or to show the viewing tv public that they can do whatever they want I don’t know. All I do know is that they messed up and being in a position of authority they can fake it however they want.

I really wasn’t sure if anyone would comment on this post due to this is only me venting but my mind is made up about the F*>< network and it would take a whole lot of changes for me to view them other than an endless pit of money sucking, self god-thinking hypocrites.

Just how I see it, Z

You're seeing it the way we all see it.

My point is that Fox just doesn't care, and isn't worth the time or effort to holler at.

However, holler away. We've all done it. I fully believe it's part of the Browncoat initiation sequence. All shiny new Browncoats need to get it out of their system.

As far as the corporate insanity - right there with ya brother. Not a whole lot to do about that either except make a million and become your own boss... or a hermit.

And with all due respect to Dreamtrove, no amount of talking about the money is going to explain it or turn the volume down on the Browncoat hollering. I'm sure you know that too. I'm just saying, it's part of the Browncoat's right to holler.

And the networks did what, exactly?
Did they not pick it up just like that didn't pick up buffy after season 5?

Fox has some morons in programming. They thought that without a lot of action, no one would watch. It's somewhat true of their audience, but they should be more long term. Run something for a season, see what happens. But then, it's their money, and no one else was putting up a dime.

When that save Firefly campaign raised 80,000, Joss said, gee, thanks, that's sweet. Unfortunately, you missed the part where we blew 8 million on an episode.

Anyway, I fear the networks. And Bonnie Hammer makes mishmash out of everything she touches. I think that Joss needs to become financially independent if he doesn't want to cater to the big crowd, and to do that, he has to cater to the big crowd once. He has the talent, he just needs to whore himself out and make something ditzy. That's where Murdoch's money that Joss was spending came from. Murdoch whored himself out like a mofo. It's how it's done. And sometimes, the product turns out to be something decent.

You can't be the idealist, the artist, and just make money doing it. Look at Phillip K. Dick. I know a lot of people like this out there writing good sci-fi and not making squat.

[edit] A million won't cut it. 100 million would cut it.

STORYMARK

Fact is, sometimes, even good shows don't connect enough to survive. It sucks, but it's reality. No use getting so bent out of shape, especially nearly 8 years after the fact.

As easy as it is to hate on Fox, it is a new buncha cats there, so no use blaming them for the choices of others. And in the end, if it were not for Fox, we wouldn't have any Firefly, at all.

Just let it go. Impotent rage does no one any good.

As Storymark pointed out, ratings usually have little to do with quality. If that were the case then Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone would still be on the air. And Wonderfalls, and Dead Like Me, and Journeyman, and Veronica Mars, and Dresden Files, and Arrested Development, and Freaks and Geeks, and...well, you get the point.

As much as I wish Firefly was still on the air I still cannot hate FOX anymore than all the other networks that do the exact same thing year after year. Just the few other shows I've mentioned were on networks like ABC, NBC, The WB (and CW), Showtime and Sci-Fi as well as FOX.

Even with only fourteen episodes, Firefly is still the best show that has ever been on tv, in my not so humble opinion at least. If it hadn't been for FOX we might not have had even that much.
