If they made one, that is.

First person shooter?

Third person action?

Third person action with role-play elements?

Massive sandbox free-roaming universe?

Control characters from the show with specific skills dependant on the situation?

A whole new cast/crew in the same 'Verse?

Start with a captain, select a crate, i mean, ship, and recruit your own crew?

Thoughts?
Feelings?

I would want an mmorpg with role playing elements.

Hmm... Looking at this, while I would LOVE an MMORPG, a third person action game with RP elements would be the most doable, and let everyone dive right in to the stuff everyone's really interested in.

The jobs/crime.

What I say, is have the basic action game controls under it all, with classes for characters, i.e. mechanic, gunslinger, medic... Possibly distraction (like the role Inara and sometimes Book fill in FF/S).

You get yourself a crew together, then you take a job, which loads you into a map (not unlike choosing to play Capture the Flag versus King of the Hill or whatever in other action games). Then you either load in a rival crew or Computer AI, depending on the scenario, and compete to try to accomplish your objective.

You could then have scenarios like a bank/train robbery, a rival crew trying to board your ship, a Reaver encounter, etc.

And maybe the waiting room, so to speak, could be a city like Eavesdown Docks on Persephone, and that could have a more MMORPG feel.

I'd love to see strategy involved.
If you're pulling a heist, don't have the game TELL you where your charcters are going and what they're doing.
Plan it out and place your crew, or those that are necessary, where they need to be.
If you come back home with one less, then you try it again.

That's why I used Capture the Flag as the example. Lots of ways you can technically do that and winning often requires your team moving in unison, making use of what skills and resources you have.

Of course, that's an overly simplistic model. Not going to just be a flag, the objective could be many things. And I'd like there to be ways besides "shoot the other team in the face more often than they do you" to pull that off. Trickery is very fun. :)

Massive sandbox free-roaming universe. I think it would have to be ship restricted, and move on to other planets. I don't think it should follow the show characters, just based on the universe. Every group should have a ship. Enough people on a ship, they can fission. If someone's not online, then they're asleep :)

mmorpg. no need to go overboard with the engine to begin with i mentioned doing this on an earlier thread

I'd actually love to see a third person action game with the characters in firefly/serenity. It would have to have strategy elements too, (as someone previously mentioned), like you'd get a job and you would have to figure out how to pull it off, it wouldn't be laid out for you. Also, there could be elements of freedom in the story, like choosing which jobs to take, choosing how to deal with a situation when someone wasn't paying you, dealing with drama in the crew (if you were playin as the capn), etc. I think it'd be an awesome game!

It starts out with an ultimatum.
You need to give X-amount of money to some big bad guy or he'll reveal the secret of River....or something. I'm working on that part.

So you spend the game making money by taking jobs.

Some money you spend on fuel, food, weaponry, and upgrades, the rest goes in the 'pot' towards paying this blackmailer.

Wether or not you pay him at the end is your own business.
;p

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'd prefer a 3rd person game with RPG elements combined with a free-roaming universe.

MMORPG would be fun, but it would be hard to compete with those that spend a lot more time online than I do.

I would say an MMO would be my ideal choice. I loved star wars galaxies back before they ruined it with the NGE update. I think a game similar to that one in the firefly verse would go down well.

"Third person action with role-play elements?"

That sounds pretty good to me.

That's an idea, the ship as the "guildhouse"/waiting room while you wait for the details of the scenario to finalize (like for the rival crew to join the game), or just as a place to hang out when you're not in queue for a job.

Persephone would then be more the interface by which you accept jobs and buy supplies, guns, ammo, etc., either from NPCs or other players. It'd be nice if that had an MMORPG element still, I suspect people would love to walk around a busy, unique place like the docks. If that would be too much effort, you could always just make purchases and job selection a series of menus... Possibly as a placeholder until the city proper was scripted, up, and running.

Hmm. What do we think of crafting? I don't think resource gathering should be involved, but people could buy basic components... Or maybe earn them as a reward for certain jobs...
