Joss answers fan questions via TV Guide. Mostly about Buffy but at the very end he talks about Inara's secret and Serenity 2.

This video gave me hope somehow...I hope some suits saw this and are now planning something!

TOTALLY! If he's ready, then they need to jump on it! I mean, come on!!! The fanbase is bigger then ever nowadays...not like it's dwindling over time.

Really good interview. There was less Jossspeak and him dodging questions than usual. Darla a potential slayer? Never really thought of that. Interesting theory.

Does anyone get the feeling this is like the River Tam Sessions and Joss is River? He seems so healthy there. He decided to stop constantly fighting for his work. Now he's got Dollhouse going and I feel like they're going to turn around and stab him again just to see if he'll fight back. Eventually Joss will just turn into crazy River. It will probably take us years to notice at least. We'll just laugh and say Joss is being funny when really he's just spouting jibberish. :-P

So, Joss has finally confirmed that Morena has confirmed that Joss has confessed to fans what Inara's secret is. But is it really her secret?????

Here's a transcript of the extra cool part of the interview where Joss discusses Serenity:

February 18, 2009

TV Guide Interview with Joss Whedon
by Matt Mitovich

Matt: When can we expect a Serenity 2 movie; and if never, can you tell us what Inara's secret was?

Joss: I'm not giving up Inara's secret - although I believe Morena has at conventions. Thanks, darling. But nobody has ever approached me about doing a movie, except fans. When somebody in a suit does, then I'll know that the landscape has changed. Basically, I'm at the ready. The moment they say "Go!" I'll start gathering the troops again; but nobody has.

I always love having Joss' love for the 'Verse reaffirmed. He still would revive Serenifly in a heartbeat, but it's the tricky part of financing that's the sticking point.

But Hollywood has a history of reviving/remaking movies and TV shows... usually when they're running out of ideas. After enough time passes and the DVD sales prove the audience is still there and growing, some studio will see that there's money to be made. It's a matter of time at this point.

Joss said that if a suit says to make the movie he will get on it right away. I went to universal studios web site and asked them to make a serenity 2 movie.

I also passed along my suggestions, for Firefly, to Universal- thanks for the link!

My own opinion, is however, that Firefly was conceived for episodic television, and that is where it shines best.

My suggestion to Universal, was to return, our heroes to TV via the Sci-fi channel perhaps, and run 8 to 10 big damn episodes, on a reoccurring basis, ala "Battlestar Galactica", with maybe a 4 or 5 month hiatus between episode runs.

Such a schedule might be better, for Universal, Joss, the actors, and ourselves. Particularly, many of the players are deeply involved in new projects, so such an arrangement might be a great way to insure their return, while re-igniting the Firefly, on a more regular basis.

And as I suggested before, Firefly may well be best presented on series TV, rather than try to jam all of the details, backstories, and character developments, into a 2 hour film(s).

I agree that the 'verse is best in episodic format. The film, while it is the BDM, was not as polished as some of the episodes IMO. That being said, I am so desperate for anything new that I played that portion of the clip over and over and over just to hear Joss talk about the possibility of Serenity 2.

I hate being in love with something I can't control...

You're right, BIB, it's just a matter of time. JJ Abrams is a good example, they know Joss' fans are loyal to a fault. The DVD sales have proved it time and again.

Boy, it feels good hearing him say he's at the ready. Now we need to contact Universal and let them know what we want - our BDS!

I sent them a note, pass it on.

Yay! This is good news, but the economy is weak, investors have no money to invest and lenders don't have any money to lend, especially here in bankrupt California. Serenity 2 would be risky because Serenity 1 only broke even. In time, if the economy rebounds and Joss regains credibility with Dollhouse, we might see a sequel. That’s why it’s important to keep watching even though the first episode was mediocre.

It’s nice to hear he’s ready, although…you know another character will die...hmmm, are we sure we want this?

How cool is it to hear even those vague words of encouragement!?!

I have to throw this out there - with all the talk about Joss and his internet "genre portal" idea (what he's said his next move will be) and now we hear that as long as someone says the word on "Serenity 2", he is "ready".... well, might it be SUCH a leap to say he could be thinking about something 'Verse related in THAT regard?

I realize I am wishing upon hoping here, but it doesn't seem CRAZY.

I don't think CRAZY people often recognize they're being CRAZY.

Firefly had a pretty large TV budget. That's not going to translate well to self funded internet productions that make "dozens of dollars". Most of the budget at the time went to special effects I'm betting. Now that a few of the BDHs are steadily employed in some decent shows I bet their salaries have gone up. Besides I think Joss is ready to tell some new stories.

Very good points for sure. My thinking is that the prospect becomes less crazy when you consider the myriad possibilities of what this "genre portal" might end up being. Joss has already said he'd like to announce a project, then see what sort of interest and money (fan-generated and advertising generated) he could muster up, THEN create the project with that money. Imagine the "genre portal" was a (and I'm just throwing this out, but in the changing internet/TV climate, I don't think it is far fetched) Sci-Fi sort of internet subscription "channel" with three or four pre-announced offerings. $5-$10/month. First dibs on DVDs. Also get paid advertisers. When you factor OUT the funds that would normally go to network TV, all of a sudden a "Firefly" budget doesn't look crazy at all.

I would wager Joss has something big like this up his sleeve (whether a return to the 'Verse is involved or not).

Wow, good to see people are still holding. :) I was afraid I had gotten into the game past a point of no return. I'm energized now just thinking about the possibilities!

Where in the mass of Universal sub-sections would one direct a request letter? Thanks for the various links to interviews and studio contacts.
