My wife's watched all of the episodes of Firefly plus Serenity with us, but never been a big fan. Now she's spending lots of time at home following a couple of surgeries and now in chemotherapy. Her 84-year-old mother has been with her a lot during the day, and when I got home yesterday they were watching "Train Job"!

Her mother said she'd never seen Firefly and wanted to see why I liked it so much. They'd already watched the pilot and were in their third hour. She really enjoys it, and I know she's following it, as when Jayne sees angels and "falls down" and she said, "Oh, the doctor must have drugged him!"

Wow. I hope I'm half that aware of - ANYTHING as she is at that age. I didn't even catch on the 1st time I saw it, until Kaylee or who ever came right out and said it.

My dad wasn't very much into sci fi, or anything, for that matter. Not when it came to watching t.v. and such. But when I was watching the pilot on dvd, and the part where Zoe and Mal are discussing their recently'found'salvage, and the chance the passengers might stumble across their stash... Mal indicates that's not likely to happen, and Zoe asks why..Mal replies. " 'cause? "

Rarely did my dad laugh out loud at such subtle writing but he did that time.

A concern of the GOP is that the people aren't informed enough to understand their policies, while a fear of the Dems is that the people ARE.

I've shared my copies of Firefly with my two brothers and sister and they all love them. I haven't figured a way to appoach my Dad with Firefly yet, but this tale has inspired me to try.

The funny thing is that I'd never even pushed it on her, but she just asked my wife yesterday if they could watch it! I've actually sent the DVD set to my three sisters and one brother. My own parents and father-in-law were all gone before the BDS aired. I just never thought about suggesting it to my mother-in-law!

Some folk just don't GET anything that's remotely Sci-fi. There are guys my age ( 40ish ) who claim to have never seen any of the Star Wars movies or more than 1 full episode of Star Trek.

I find that simply incredible.

I do not doubt your word one bit, but doesn't it seem odd that a guy in his forties would claim not to have ever seen a Star Wars movie or one episode of Star Trek, when they were probably the largest viewed medium of that age? I'm sure it is possible, but it seems unlikely, so I wonder what those guys who made such claims had to gain from them.
