In 1998, a show appeared starring Jeremy Piven called 'Cupid'.
It was about a guy who was convinced he was Cupid.
It was cancelled.
Now, 11 years later, ABC is premeiering a "re-imaging" of the series.

A series that failed.

Eleven years ago.

Meanwhile Firefly is still off the air.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'll probably watch it, but I'm not expecting much since it won't have Piven and Paula Marshall.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense, does it...? Well, we know the network execs are a bunch of fools. Mostly. Some of them had the sense to cast Nathan Fillion in a delightful role, just not one that happens to be named Capt. Malcolm Reynolds...

Castle's great in spite of ads/previews for silly premieres like Cupid coming up, but I do wish intelligent TV (Firefly especially, but even Dollhouse too) stood a better chance. At least we don't have to sit through the end of Dancing with the Stars before next week's Castle by the sound of it.

But it does have Sarah Paulson (Dr. "Pax" Caron.)

Six degrees of Serenity?

Despite that show, it does prove that there is hope for Firefly yet.

I watched Cupid when it first aired. It was awesome. Loved it. Very good chemistry between the cast. Etc, etc, etc. Brimstone was aired at the same time. Another cancelled very good show. I remember the station that aired them where I was alternating between the two. A couple eps of Cupid, a couple eps of Brimstone... then nothing.

But, now, with this "Cupid." The casting is clearly wrong. Those actors for those characters doesn't make any sense. Not to mention the acting. Oh god, the acting. Even from the clips that I've seen it's clear that it isn't up to par.

It's this sort of thing that makes me pray that they leave Firefly alone. Because, if this is what they do when they "re-imagine" old shows, imagine what they'd do to Firefly.

Yeah, I posted this thread a few months back...
http://fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=8&t=35480

I have no desire to watch this new version.
I only hope it'll bring about a DVD release of the original magic.

Here's hoping.

Anyway, I caught the first 1/2 of the new pilot... terrible. The acting was everything I thought it would be with the exception of one supporting actor (the old MD that brought "Claire" Cupid's case). Everything else was an embarrassment. I hope that this show gets cancelled in favour of something actually good.

What a shame though, because I like Bobby Cannavale (Station Agent, recurring role on Will & Grace) and, of course, our beautiful Sarah Paulson. But alas we must face facts.

I saw the first half hour of Cupid, and although it wasn't horrible, it just didn't quite grab me.
Poor Sarah, first Studio 60 (she was brilliant in that one) and now Cupid. That woman is the Nancy Travis of the new millenium, beautiful but with the worst luck in picking projects.

But a poorly written show just comes through. Not to mention the acting. BTW I do remember the original with Piven and I liked it better than this "updated" or "re-imagining." Chemistry is extremely important in a show such as this and it just ain't there. Which begs the question - Who couldn't fall in love with Sarah?

I do hope that some "genius" takes a look at Firefly and decides to bring back a brilliant show, but without the "re-imagining" part. Why mess with near perfection? Sooner or later these TV execs will come to the conclusion that reality shows have run their course and return to presenting intelligent solid shows.

Me. IMO, she just doesn't have any warmth to her. Sure, to some she might have outer beauty. But, in a show like this that inner warmth either shows and the actress fits, or it doesn't and no matter how good the acting is, the performance falls on its face.

But, quite frankly, I don't see the warmth, nor do I find her attractive in any way, nor is her acting anywhere near good (IMO of course). In fact, I find her a bit creepy looking. She looks like she has got that unhealthy skinny going on and the body of her hair just makes it look worse. It's like she looks like a Barbie doll where I could pop her head off.

\begin{rant}

I understand that these women think that they need to stay skinny in order to get roles. But, past a certain point (that is strongly coupled to age), one must allow one self to put on weight and fill out. Otherwise, it's the Crypt Keeper look that one gets. Courteney Cox and, to a lesser extent, Jennifer Connelly are another two examples of this.

Is it really too much to ask to have slim, but still healthy people on TV? I mean, all that would require is a proper diet and exercise and the the body will work things out on its own. Has the ideal really become Crypt Keeper women and body builder men?

\end{rant}

There's discussion about this over on io9, and I looked at the comparison clips — they used the original 1998 pilot script!

Couldn't they just take the money used on this to give us a Firefly Christmas Special, or something??

Strange indeed. But Hollywierd does have that Reaver-like approach to things that common folk see for what it is - strange.

I saw Sarah perform admirably in Studio 60, also she did look entirely healthy (not at all like in Cupid the other night). But yes, that whole "waif" look is beyond anything even resembling normal. That's why I appreciate stars like Scarlet Johansen and Selma Hayek (gigadee) who show their curves off proudly.

They don't make them like Brigitte Bardot or Rachel Welch (gigadee goo) anymore.
