O_O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well im glad they fixed it. my credit card was apparently compromised not too long ago (fortunately they didnt get so far as to use it, whoever they are) but instead of being notified that something happened, they just sent me a new card and i was like "uh.....what's this for?" had to call them to get the whole story @_@ apparently i was one of like 150,000 whose numbers were stolen.

Yeah apparently I should have been checking daily on my account.. they sent what's considered "test" charges of a dollar through yesterday and when I didn't close the card ( 'cause I hadn't checked the bank account) they charged $300 on nutra system...argh

See that falls onto the bank being at fault then MSA... a $1 charge should send up all kinds of alarms to your bank and they should have known it was a test and shut it down. There is almost no possible way to charge a single dollar anymore that and a 1 cent charge are the norm for account tests. They had teh warning and let it happen.

actually it was 2 one dollar charges... so yes it should have flagged the account and given me a call, but most banks outsource that and it gets sent to a system which probably would have gotten around to me...I'm just glad my bank was able to put the money right back

*Tentative knocking at the bar and grill's swing doors*

Ummm, can I come in? I know it's been an unforgivably long time since last I was here but I'm hoping that you are all forgiving people and might be willing to accept me back into the bosom of the Firefly family.

I have recently had a few days off from my horrible soul destroying job and became instantly depressed that I have very few friends or hobbies left to me. The teaching thing has expanded to eat my life. This is not of the good and I would like to scrape back some social interaction if this could be arranged please?!

Do you think it possible that I might be able to crack through the middle-aged crust of overwork that has turned me into a boring old fart?!

Emma! Let us sit and be gaseous and encrusted together.

Just as soon as I get the bat of DOOM and work off today's EVEN MORE IMPROVED DAY. (for asshats)

So we're down a nurse on vaycay, another one is scheduled off. We knew this. Then two more call in sick. We have THREE nurses and as many clinicians to see all the patients and the boss doesn't stop the walk-ins (the front end quietly did, however). One nurse came in on her day off for 7 friggin' hours to prep the charts for tomorrow. Another one came in at 3 and wondered why the boss hadn't asked her to come in sooner. Good question. We saw 47 people yesterday with twice the staff. We saw 56 today with what we had.

Remind me why I don't call in sick like everybody else when I don't feel like working?

Ahh, thanks for the lovely welcome. And the good news is that I am less of a festering pustule of misery today. Certain fantastic news that was e-mailed to me last night has cheered me up no end! More browncoats in the world makes it a much cheerier place!

So, I see I'm not the only one who has just devoured the new Dresden book in a day. Boy are they getting progressively darker!

*looks at the bust added to the breakables room* Better not break that, Deadpool seems a tad too fond of the Mutant Messiah (a certain dream involving WD40 instead of massage oil springs to mind... unfortunately), although speaking of the Regenerating Degenerate, my anger was dissipated somewhat by the acquisition of Suicide Kings (pt1) and Game$ of Death, along with pts 2&3 of Magnum Opus.

All I have to say about the Dresden situation is that (once again), the Distributors are going to lose lots of monery to Amazon.com or any other online retailers who'll ship to Australia, seeing as the only release date the shop people could give me involved the letters Ju**.

Anyway, I'd best go get some rest, seeing as I'm working an extra job [s]tomorrow[/s] today, as well as my normal work tonight.Yay for extra income.

I'm so very sorry to both you and MsA not to have responded when you tried to dig me out of my self imposed solitary seclusion. It was nothing personal, just extreme exhaustion, over work and depression. I even managed to ignore the guy I sometimes get nekkid with (doesn't count as a boyfriend)for a couple of months, that's how busy I got!

Anyway, my new resolution is to come on here at least once a day and may leprechauns ping my knicker elastic if I don't!

Sorry to hear that Gee and Stinkingrose are suffering from colleague scivalitis. I'm dragging my sorry ass back to the grindstone tomorrow, and have two days to get ready for the new term.

MsA, are you still temp teaching or have you kissed goodbye to the little buggers?!

Other that MsA's mindblowingly good news, what else have I missed around here? Anyone else getting hitched or procreating?!

Ooooh, oooh! Could you help me? I think I count as a thoroughly broken teacher. To the extent that the thought of starting a new term next week has had me bursting into tears and looking for job adverts a thousand miles away from horrible teenagers.

Seriously, what does that involve? It sounds fascinating. Do you help them to teach better or to cope with bad behaviour better?

HUSG I don't think you're broken I think you're burned out...
Actually both I teach them to handle behaviors better, deal with their curriculum, manage their classroom, better teaching techniques...etc
I'd say you need to get a life outside teaching and bring some of it with you. Take a bunch of silly pictures with your friends or pics that make you smile and line the inside of a drawer with them so when you open it you smile.
Take a break while you're there... even if it's just 15 minutes to listen to a brief comedy bit ( I love Eddie Izzard for this purpose)
Make your commute more fun. Listen to comedy cds' or books on tape that you enjoy so that on your way there and home you aren't spinning your head over work.
Add something into your teaching routine that makes you enjoy it or it just for you... 5 minute " warm up " vocab practice or something at the beginning of class and throw in random words or something you think is interesting but doesn't relate
DO NOT grade on weekends or do lesson plans
Make you time. Set aside 2 hours on a weekday to do something you like or consider pampering
It's way too easy to let this job consume you and let others make you feel like you're not doing enough or giving enough. Remember most people do not work nights and weekends for free... that's a freak teacher thing.
Also I find going in an hour early the day classes begin and getting everything ordered and set for the day makes things feel really in control. I put things up and set up lessons etc while listening to my fav music and burning a nice candle scent I enjoy. then I sit and drink a cup of tea and play on the internet before class starts

Actually, I've started following it already. I got an Ipod for my birthday and I've been filling it with audiobooks. Isn't it just the coolest crossover ever that The Dresden Files is read by James Masters?!

When a student says something you and you want to just scream or smack them. I think it might have been Amazon, or some other retailer, but they were offering varioua Dresden-y badges with the audiobooks. Ones like "Everything I know, I learnt from a skull named Bob" and the "Splattercon!!!" one, plus a different shield charm with each of the first 5 or so books.

Given that the only time I normally associate you with the description 'school girl' is when you're dressed in Slytherin colours, I think I should start worrying about what cunning plan is unfolding that I might find myself caught up in.

Today's cabling job (not my main employment, just an extra cashy money earner) was interesting. Dual level house, no stairs installed yet (although for zombie proofing they may wish to leave them out), total of 35 data ports put in place. So out of the budgeted 1.25km of Cat6 cable, we used 1km of it. Oh, and the place is close enough to the airport to access the unsecured wi-fi network used by employees.

*checks clock to see how long's left until normal work begins* Almost 3 hours. That's more'n enough time to do... something. Dunno what yet.

Okay, I so want those shield bracelet charms! I love the more subtle and tasteful nods to fandom!

I'm shattered this morning, only had 4 hours sleep last night as I got hooked reading a superlative fanfiction - a crossover bewteen Firefly and Doctor Who that I adored! If you're interested, go here!

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3486089/1/The_Man_With_No_Name

Anyway, I've dragged my ass back into work, with no energy or motivation, to find I'm the only one from my office who is not still on holiday today! I keep thinking that no-one would notice if I wasn't here!!! With no-one to keep an eye over me and little energy or inspiration for the new term, I don't think I am likely to have a very productive day today!

Nico, you put me to shame, looking around for EXTRA jobs to do. I can't even seem to do the one I'm supposed to!

Great isn't it! I know people who mock fan fiction, especially crossovers (with some justification I must admit! There's an awful lot of wish fullfilment drivel out there!), but this was much better written that any of the published Dr Who novels I've spent money on!

Ah well, life is a reeking pit of unfairness. Some of the best authors languish in obscurity just as some of the best TV series get cancelled for more mindless dross!

Gah,

epic fail!

Today was meant to be me steaming through maths to clear time for fun things with other half and I'm just out of energy, brains, inspiration, the works. Trying to follow proofs nothing, so far managed to wath an episode of TSCC and listen to Megadeth/Tool whilst floating round net, not evern been writing (novel or blog) or doing something constructive about chasing down a vocalist for my band.

I shall throw self in a shower and see if other half's arrival will kick me into gear.

I was reading Ems posts yesterday and thinking how important it is to get the whole work/life balance right and I fucked it yesterday, got overly stressed with a crappy clusterfuck day and never recovered. I shall refrain from offering any advice to you Ems other than listen to Msa, she seems to know what she's talking about.
