IT'S FRIDAY! YAY!! It is Friday morning though. So, that sorta sucks. Can't stop time though. So, it'll get to be the evening eventually.

Oh so I have a new manager this year and her morale booster is that every month she draws an employees name out of the hat and tells them to take the day off. I haven't been picked yet but the email came out this morning. Every time I see that email in my inbox my hopes rise off the charts. Then it's like "awwww not my name"

ponder: why, rather than calling an exterminator to get rid of the deeply ingrained bees nest hiding out in our roof (too far in for pesticides to reach, we've tried), is my dad insistent on *just* fixing the back door? there's a gap about < > this wide in the top, which is how theyre getting in, but still, if you kill the nest, you also wont have to worry about dodging them every time you go outside.

Exterminators are expensive?

I think the real question is why aren't you out getting a new pet? "Bees are the favorite meal of Merops apiaster, the bee-eater bird. Other common predators are kingbirds, mockingbirds, bee wolves and dragonflies." I don't know what a bee wolf is but I think I want one.

Bah a bee wolf is a wasp. That's no good. Get a mocking bird to mock your Dad

You might also want to check the attic. We've been in a few places where they find their way in through ventilation and light fixtures. Sure fixing the back door will keep them from coming in from the outside, but what about from the attic? Also, I'd try some more passive chemicals rather than the aerosol(sp) sprays for bees and hornets. I use an insecticidal soap that comes in a spray bottle. Check out gardening supply in stores. Even if it doesn't kill them all right away a hive or nest sprayed with it will no longer be useful.

we don't really have an attic, cuz we have radiant heating up there, so its all pipes and no lights or vents really ><;; but yeah, there might be a leak somewheres regardless. insecticidal soap? didnt know it existed :P have to give it a shot. ^_^

You have to spray it directly on the bees and the nest to work. It is pretty much soapy water, but the mix of that and proprietary chemicals eusure that it works. Might have to spray it down two or three times, but it should work.

um bees have been dying off in droves. If we don't let the bees survive all crops will die off since they are the way we pollinate all crops.... if they are bees... call a local apiary and they will pay to move them. No fuss no muss and then your dad doesn't have to fix the door...if they are wasps... KILL THEM ( yes I am a bug bigot... but hey bees make honey, pollinate crops and flowers and only sing if threatened they are very useful and nice...plus they're cute)

oy, therein lies the problem, we cant *get* to the nest thats how far back it is ><;; and there isnt really an easy way to get to our "attic." not that mom would ever let dad go up there cuz its all copper pipes, and dad aint so nimble anymore lol

yes MsA, they are a waspish type of insect. dont knwo if theyre wasps or hornets, theyre just black and yellow bees with stingers that just infest and sting, and dont make honey lol.

I kind of wish our carpenter bees would come back, they werent as nasty, and they were easy to kill *tennis racket*

Wow, dead weekend. Seems the class I taught went well. Hopefully our attendence fulfilled required numbers for the grant. If so than I get paid next week. If not, then I get to run another class before June.

My brother dropped by this morning to give me a hug before leaving town. They are off to Idaho, them Montana. He and his family will stay in Edmonton at a B&B for a few days before driving off to Alaska. His new job, according to him is "Glorified Boyscout". He'll be assisting SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) Instructors until he gets an instructor cert. Seeing as he enjoyed screwing with Airmen as OPFOR a few times I think he'll really enjoy this.

Well, were a lot alike. We enjoy adventure, survival, torture...

Anyhoo, he's super excited. Dad mode kicked in and my objection took over for about half a second until I realized he was smiling while telling me what he'll be doing. He's got a strong mind and an even stronger will. Most anyone else I would worry about, but I'm sure he'll actually enjoy this.

Funny, I never thought of it before, but we both have no issue with directing our superiors, telling them what's what, then going back to business as usual just like any other day.

Ah Monday what a horrible day it is.

So, the kitty has been on special kidney food for a while and she's had an upset stomach ever since she started on it. They gave me some stuff that was supposed to help with that and even after a week of taking it there was no real improvement. So, this Saturday they gave me a different brand of kidney friendly food. I'm quite excited that last night I found solid poop in her litter box. Hooray!

HUGS NV..

Very long day... tomorrow even longer. I have to be in Reno at 7 am tomorrow which means getting up at 5:30 am to be able to make it on time, then I teach a training, run to the office and put together curriculum for a week, dash about 18 miles to a one on one with a kid spend 3 hours teaching and running all over ( several football fields over is the playground we walk/run to take him to 2 times during the 3 hours) , finish that, drive 18 miles back to a high school for an IEP and by that point I will have an hours worth of data collation to do and then I can go home... So yet again tomorrow I won't be online all day... sorry guys:)

Cause professors get paid crazy well. All to ignore students and worry more about their research than teaching. The college system needs an overhaul IMO. It's just waaaaaay too expensive.

I've never heard a good reason for tenure. I mean from the employee's perspective it's great. From the employer side it makes no sense. Here's free reign to slack off and in general be a jerk. You're on your honor not to do that.

exactly, and no one *especially* the students can do anything about it. I've had teachers that have gotten me so incensed i would go home to my mom and say "holy. SHIT how did this person stay in the district for thirty years? im not learning a damn thing!" and she'd shake her head and say "i know, i know, but he's got tenure, so even if you went to the superintendent theres not much can be done." its infuriating from all perspectives, well, except for those who *have* tenure.
