The Monday AM "new numbers" are immaterial, as they have nothing to do with the cummulative totals (which only changes when people actually vote.)

I've got to agree. The funniest thing is reading the Jericho board posts and their protests that Jericho fans would never cheat, when they're down, but cheering on the jumps of hundreds of votes at a time when they're pulling ahead.

I've never watched Jericho, but maybe cheating and delusion is an integral part of the heroes' mentality on that show. Love is what keeps Browncoats flying. Well, that and the money!

(By the way, keep voting at the Best Sfi Fi TV program site. I'd rather have a good show like Red Dwarf catching up with us than Jericho, but still, Firefly is the best!)

Well, they just couldn't resist. A few stray attempts at 30-60 vote runs during the week, but Jericho couldn't stand losing at real votes. Had to cheat to jump ahead again to think they were really winning, whether by using an autovoter like they've been caught doing in the past, or just using proxies to change IP addresses and keep voting. Why should we vote when they're just going to cheat and jump ahead whenever they want?

I don't even know how the original autovote program worked, but it's more than just clearing cookies and voting again. There has to be a way to fool the site into thinking it's coming from a new IP address. There are lots of proxy sites out there, but the regular way the votes go up when they've got it running going up one vote at a time instead of three says it's not just someone browsing through any list of proxy sites...

What Would Mal Do?

In Heart of Gold he gave a bunch of "working ladies" guns and sacrificed a few of them to beat Rance's high-tech gun. More than once with the Reavers he just crossed his fingers that they wouldn't notice him. And with the Alliance he'd moon 'em. I don't recall him ever buying a bigger gun to equal the firepower.

But he also didn't work alone, and I sure can't keep up with an autovoter by myself. I've got a life, unlike some of the Jericho voters...

There are several ways to create an autovoter. I've heard of guys renting a botnet (very illegal and not recommended, even for browncoats) and using a script to have each zombie PC vote every six hours. The proxy address would work the same way, but I believe the sites that provide free proxy addresses would be on the watch for that, as they mainly provide a service for individuals wanting to surf the net anonymously. There's also the possibility that someone hacked the TVTally site.

Lastly, the Jericho fans may have a message board where they have a lot of fans who can be mobilized in an emergency. But that seems unlikely, as it would be discussed openly.

Speaking of that, do you have the URL for Jericho fan site messageboards? I'm also short on time, but I can go over and check the message traffic for clues. It's hard to keep these things secret, and the solution may be buried in their message traffic.

There is no notice, much less discussion, of where all there votes ate coming from, at their

It was the reply to your Monday totals post, when you asked if anyone knew how to cheat. The gist is that the site has to think your IP address hasn't voted in six hours. The Jericho folks have talked about clearing cookies and voting again, but I've never tried that. The fastest way I know is to use a proxy site - each one has a different IP address and there are a lot you can go through once every six hours. The downside is that with Jericho fans apparently doing the same thins and many sites going to the same "real" address you often vote without any change in totals. That and the popups, but use a good browser and that's not a problem. With practice you can run quite a few at a time.

(If you're watching the Jericho board, it's pretty funny. Now they're accusing me of running up the Jericho votes to make them look bad. Maybe it really is someone they don't know, but the timing sure fits when two or three of them are on. I can watch their votes run up by 30-40 and within a few minutes one of them posts that they're "voting around"...)

OK. bear with me, as I've not done this before. Which proxy server do you use and how do you set it up?

Well, somebody figured it out last night - I figured it was you! Just search for free proxy sites, pick one and paste the voting url in. Could say "Browse" or "Go". They vary. Some give you lists of multiple sites, the fastest way to go.
