Likes to mess with stuffs.

Does anyone on here watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood?

If you do, do you know whether it's just a retelling of the original series? I've watched five episodes now and the story so far is nearly the same as the original Fullmetal Alchemist. Was this intentional and is the story supposed to differ at some point later on?

CYBERSNARK

Brotherhood is intended to follow the manga's plot, so yeah, it'll diverge. The anime did one of those "we'll stretch out the manga plot until we pass it" things, then went their own way. A lot of the original eps were just "filler" stories. Now that the manga is complete, they have the whole storyline to adapt.

Much of it involves compressing multi-episode arcs into a single ep by taking out flashbacks and stuff-we-don't-need-to-know-anyway. Consider that, after 7 eps of Brotherhood (having already passed the "Nina" arc), we're "caught up" to eps 19/20 of the previous series (with Ed & Al about to face off against Slicer & Chopper).

Among the changes are that Riza and Winry will have much-expanded roles, the Homunculi will have a different origin, and Hohenheim will (probably) not appear.
