There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Good for her. I hope she continues to have a conscience about the work she does.

I'm a regular "red-blooded American guy" as the saying goes, and I definitely like the ladies, and am even turned on by girl-girl pairings, but I think there is something askew with several actresses these days thinking it's all okay to doff their duds on screen. Anna Paquin and Lizzy Caplan from True Blood come to mind right off.

I don't realize what the fuss is about and what this has to do with conscience.

The movie was going to go in a direction Summer wasn't comfortable with, she turned down the role, end of story. Why do people need to villainize the film because of that?

Why doesn't anyone ask about her conscience portraying acts of violence in movies and television?

Oh right, because sex is bad, violence is good.

I don't get what the big hang up is about nudity, it's natural. I don't get why Americans make such a big deal out of it. I'm a fan of 24, but it's okay for Jack Bauer to kill and torture people every week but it's not okay for Anna Paquin to show her breasts? ...I think there's something slightly off about that.

Oh no, the zombies killed god!

If you knew me you would realize I am not a violent person and I think sex is probably the greatest thing two people can engage in. Nudity is perfectly fine, in fact I'm nude as I type this. Sorry if that's too much information.

I am not a fan of "24" so I am certainly not saying it is okay for Jack Bauer to torture and kill. If I had my way everyone would be nude and frolicking around without a care in the world.

What I was addressing is the fact that Summer probably thought the offensive scene was just there for prurient interest and the point could have been made otherwise. She has potential to be a great actress and she has the right to make her own decisions and I applaud her for sticking to her principles. If and when she chooses to do a more mature story, and if she thinks nudity would serve the purpose of said story better than anything else, then she can make that decision. Now is not the time for that I assume.

As for her previous violent roles, both of those were in unrealistic settings and her characters were programmed to act the way they did. Completely different from Bauer torturing terrorists.

Why is that necessarily probable? We know very little about that scene. It's a big assumption to make. We can't know why she didn't want to film the scene. It could be an artistic disagreement about the point of the scene or it could just be plain modesty. No need to assume anything.

They still portray her violence as something positive. With River, it's likened to dancing, and with Cameron, they certainly play up the "coolness" of it, the fun aspect of watching violence.

So I don't see why the one MUST be there for prurient reasons only, and the other is "completely different" from bad violence on tv.

Summer has her own priorities. No need to condemn them, as Summer is an adult woman making her own choices, but no need to sugar-coat them either.

Summer has said that after her parents saw Serenity Pilot, they forbade her from working without clothing any more. She said she told Joss he would see Jesus before he saw her nekkid again. I have not heard any version of her retracting this policiy, so this just seems to be a continuation of her decision (or her parents). I was, however, surprised to see her nekkid several times in Terminator Pilot.

That new Lexus for Xmas may have changed their minds?

Yeah, Joss is a little like Girls Gone Wild. With Emmys. Good for him. And her.

But I wish girls were given role models of being a good (hot) wife, stay-at-home with kids, no abortions, helping their husband be successful. But that breed is extinct, along with USA.

Hello ecgordon:

I don't watch 24 because it promotes violence. The hero of the series shot an innocent woman in the leg to make her husband talk and later shot an unarmed man. I do not consider this a good role model to follow.

Not all people from the United States are fans of violence. Especially when the hero is commiting criminal acts. It may be a popular show, but not with me.

I can't tell if you think you are agreeing with me or disagreeing. Sounds a bit like you think I said something positive about 24, but that had to be someone else, mine was the opposite. I don't care for the show either, and haven't watched it since Season One.

I just don't want you to think all the people of the United States agree with the violence shown on 24. I know it is popular because it has lasted several seasons, but the morality of this show turned me off. I just hope this does not become a trend.

ANOTHERSKY

The portrayal of violence and nudity are fine in my opinion...under certain contexts.

Somebody already made the point that this role would have her 'nekkid' for "prurient" interest...ie for the sake of drooling, whatever the color of your blood.

She's gotten nekkid a few times for roles...none of which to my knowledge were really the "prurient" sort, which apparently crosses the line for her. She'll do nekkid, just not nekkid pin-up. I'm all for that.

piratenews: did you post that just for a reaction? Come on, GOOD vibes being spread here. Most of that was not. At least for half the population.

Bottom line, she has the decision, and if that's an issue for her (or rather non-issue), I think 'we' should be supportive of her decision or if 'we' just can't stomach the thought of her not fulfilling fan fantasies, neutral.

Not that I wouldn't mind seeing Summer in the nude, but good for her for staying true to herself. It seems too easy to sell out with all the money and fame available, and I am real happy Summer refused to do it. I was listening to the song "I Hope You Dance," by Lee Ann Womack and she sang the words, "When you come close to sellin out reconsider" which got me to thinking about my life and all the times I may have sold out and never even noticed.
