SHINYGOODGUY

I always wondered why folks here picked the user or screen names that they have. Just curious.

I'll start -

After Serenity was released, I was most happy Joss's reveal of River's story. But what stuck out to me most was Jayne's line that kind of said it all - Shiny, Let's be bad guys.

I originally wanted Shinybadguy because of what I thought Joss was saying about our BDH. To me it meant something more than whats' on the surface. But that pseudonym was taken (at least that's the message I got) and so I re-thought it and settled upon SGG. Somehow, I think it means even more now.

We know, from watching the series, that these guys are anything but bad (meaning evil) and that our makeshift dysfunctional family has something more to offer. On the surface, they are bad guys, but underneath their just naughty men slipping about.

Hence, shiny good guys.

TUJIAOZUO

I was going to me super clever and take RabbitCalledAsh (born during the year of the rabbit and named Ash) and translate it to Chinese. It was Tu Jiao Zuo Hui. And when I registered, I accidentally forgot the Hui. Hence Tujiaozuo.

Ah my handle... a faux pas

THESOMNAMBULIST

Contrary to opinion I chose The Somnambulist not from the 'Angel' episode of the same name but from a little known obscure 1920's German expressionist film called "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari" In the film a mad Dr has a 'sleepwalker' (Somnambulist) in a cabinet that he releases at night to wreak havoc upon the small unsuspecting town.

ZZETTA13

Funny and sometime strange how people come up with their screen names. Mine is no exception and really has nothing to do with Firefly or Serenity.

My SN comes from a science fiction/fantasy artist that I like named Frank Frazetta. In one of the art books that has come out about him (ICON) it has that his original last name used to be Frazzetta and that later in life he dropped one of the “Z”s. I took this and dropped the “FRA” and retained the “zzetta” part. The 13 comes from the day of the month I was born on…….hence zzetta13.

Told you it was strange……LOL

KATESFRIEND

When I was younger, sci fi was pure pleasure for me. But after college and my career, fun and sci fi in particular went on a very far back burner. The I met a remarkable lady named Kate who reminded me how much I loved sci fi, how much it could teach us about the human condition and about ourselves, and that I was way too focused on career and not enough on having fun. Then she died one afternoon of a brain aneurism at the age of 42. I'll never forget her, so whenever I'm here to have fun and soak up some sci fi I'm reminding myself that I'm Katesfriend.

ECGORDON

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

E. C. Gordon is the main character in Robert Heinlein's science-fantasy novel Glory Road. I have used it or a variation of it on almost every forum I've joined in the ten years since I got my first computer. I am "easygordon" on the scifi.com forums, and on one devoted to Heinlein that no longer exists I signed up as "Oscar." You'd have to have read the book to understand how that is one of his nicknames.

I also answer to Easy, Flash and Scar.

LWAVES

Many, many moons ago when the www was just an ickle idea in someone's head and everything on the internetty was typed and graphics were in the form of ascii, I had to come up with a username. I was a big fan of 3D graphics programs at the time and always wanted to get hold of Toaster for the Amiga. This was the program that created Babylon 5 and part of the package was the 3d program called Lightwave. So to always inspire me to aim towards getting it I chose Lightwave as my username as a constant reminder.
But that was taken. So I picked Lwave. That too was taken, so a little miffed I just added the 's', figuring that I'd change it later.
I never did.

So there you have it. And I did eventually get Lightwave. Eventually.

I must add that I also have another username. As a joke I made a t-shirt with the 'wideload' banner you see on big vehicles (I am a big guy btw) across the back. I wore it when I went round a collector's fair. It raised a few looks and giggles (and I liked the name) so that is usually the one I use now for signing up for something.

Well, this was the first forum I ever signed up for. In a panic when I realized I had to have a name I just put down the first thing that occurred to me.

I live in eastern NC, I'm a confirmed Browncoat since I first saw the movie and ordered the DVD set that night.

I also use the variation NCB on www.fanfiction.net and at the KNTR forums. I'm Fireflyfainc on LJ but I'm thinking about making things standard there as NCB too. Any thoughts on that?

That's really sweet.

This was the second site I ever registered on. The first was an Airwolf board, where I was "Rarebutafact." But this reference would mean nothing to anyone who was not a fan of the series, so when I came here, I thought of how Mal would sometimes end a sentance in "is all."
So, it's simply Chris, is all.

I thought for awhile that it was a reference to Mr. Universe's 'somnambulant public.' Interesting that your name can tie into two Joss fandoms, and neither one is the reason for it

That's such a sweet story.

When I first started being a 'presence' online, I had been going through a troubling time (I was a teenager, what wasn't a troubling time?) and was very into the myth and symbology of the phoenix. Since my name is Rose, which is not only a pretty powerful symbol on its own, but also a past tense of rise, I thought it fit with Phoenix quite well, and this became my semi-permanent handle. Unfortunately, it seems I wasn't the only one who had the idea, and I have several doppelgangers on the world wide web. So, sometimes, I have to come up with a variation or totally different name. On this board, PhoenixRose was available when I signed up, so hooray.
Funny side note, a few years after I started using this screen name, my aunt had a daughter. She named her Phoenix.

ANONYMOUS1

Watched Firefly when it first aired. Loved it and then it was gone. Watched it again when it aired on the Sci-Fi channel before Serenity came out. Saw Serenity so many times. Got the Firefly DVDs.

Found this place. Lurked for a while. Scared. Finally, decided to get a screen name and post something. Still scared. I think I tried GUEST and it was taken. Tried ANONYMOUS and it was taken. Whoo-hoo! ANONYMOUS1 was available.

Joined http://serenitymovie.org, http://whedonesque.com/ http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?showforum=4 too as ANONYMOUS1. Tried to join SciFi's boards and never could get their system to work and give me a password that worked.

Got a myspace when Nathan joined myspace...but the URL http://www.myspace.com/anonymous1 was taken...so I did not set a URL and just had a number and waited...kept checking and finally http://www.myspace.com/anonymous1 was free...grabbed it. Now I have http://www.myspace.com/anonymous1.

When Nathan added a twitter account and I wanted to twitter somebody had anonymous1 and so I got http://twitter.com/anonymous1tweet If that person ever leaves twitter, I don't know if I'll be able to change it. Good morning fellow browncoats!

ShinyGoodGuy…..glad to see that there are other folk onboard the good ship Serenity that are Frazetta fans as well.

Don’t know that many people will remember, or even know that Frank Frazetta painted the first three paintings for the original Battlestar Galactica series back in 1978. They could be found in that years TV Guide and even though they were in B/W the images were still impressive. Here’s a look

Also a pic of Apollo and Starbuck
