THESOMNAMBULIST

Ok. It's been some years since out beloved show was cancelled, leaving us all to ponder and wonder about what might have been.

Thankfully we have this great sight (thanks Haken) to sob, weap, and mourn over for the loss of our show and fondly recount tales of when and where and how we came to fall in love with it.

So for old times sake, given that I often come here now and see little but pollitical threads dominating the header slots, I thought it time to raise some of the old questions that stir up the Firefly juices and have us once again talking about Firefly. Which is in short the very reason we all come here. So here are some questions, conundrums and general sillyness to spark the imaginations and incite (I hope) some chit-chat.

So:

1) You find yourself in a difficult situation. Trapped in an abandoned cargo bay with the whole Alliance army positioned all around the only exit. You have some weapons and if you're quick there's a chance you could escape. But It'll take some fancy shootin'. So my question is:- Which of the Firefly crew would you like to have by your side in such a situation? You may choose only one character.

2) Serenity has had to make an emergency crash landing on a desolate heap of a planet where thankfully there is no Alliance representation. She's badly broken up and really only a genius could even hope to fly her let alone leave the atmosphere and into deep cold space, so my question is :
As captain would you decide to stay with the crew you know and love and make a go of it on a new completely alliance free planet or; -
would you order the crew to take the very big risk of trying to patch Serenity up and attempt to leave? Bear in mind this choice comes with high risk and a great chance of "Oh God, Oh God we're all going to die!".

3) You are the tenth crew member, having recently joined Serenity this is your first shore leave with the whole crew, and you've been ordered to attend a fancy shinding. There will be 'real' food, sophisticated drinks (no mudder's milk) and a fair bit of dancing. That said Mal is of course working a deal but a respectable image is to be upheld by all crew members (Jayne included) to impress the potential client. As such you realise this is your chance to shine on the dance floor and you take the opportunity to ask one of the crew to dance. Who will it be and why?

4) You're in deep space. Serenity has had a strange shut down and much of the repair work must be done on the hull - which means a space walk. It's cold dark and of course very dangerous, but strangely alluring with all them flickering twinkling stars 'n all. Everyone has to buddy up and tend to some area of the hull as a duo. Who would you like to be paired with and why?

5) You've been taken prisoner by the Alliance for looking like: "A low down dirty Browncoat!" (Alliance words not mine). They give you two options:-
a -Remain with the Alliance and aid them in their role as vanguards of the 'verse, with the alliance honouring the bargain by letting Serenity remain free agents or; -
b -Be released a free man with a ship and a crew of your own if you'll divulge the whereabouts of Serenity and her crew?

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

7) Ok way way in the future of Serenity and her crew, Mal and the others decides it's time to hang up their respective space spurs. However you realise you've saved up enough dough to buy Serenity from Mal and be able to afford her another crew to fly with you around the verse. My question is would you buy Serenity and keep flying with a totally new crew or would you also decide much like Mal that the romance in heistin' has gone and there's no way you could fly that boat without Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Book, Kaylee, River, Simon, and Inara

8) Mal and Inara finally get it on and there's much relief amoung the crew. You're all very happy for them. However a horrid realisation strikes you. You are in the neighbouring room to Mal and Serenity's walls are thin, not to mention echoey! You'll get no sleep with those two at it all night and in zero gravity! So Will you:-

a - Saboutage the relationship from ever happening?

or

b - Will you decide to share a room with Jayne who has a free bunk?

9) Dark days for Serenity. Simon and River are leaving, and with Simon goes Kaylee as they are involved now. This has Zoe and Wash thinking about leaving also as they want to settle down and start a family. This leaves Mal, Jayne, Book and Inara remaining on board to keep Serenity flying. I guess you have a decision to make..

a- Move on?

b - Stay with Mal, Inara, Jayne and Book?

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

Ok over to y'all.

1) ZOE

2) Take the risk. Although the crew of Serenity is my family and I love’em, being marooned on a lonely planet ( no matter how hospitable) would be a bad thing I think because;

a) It world drive Jayne crazy.

b) Wash and Zoe would become a baby making factory.

c) Simon and Kaylee would be in competition with Wash and Zoe.

d) I might find a rudder with Inara

e) River would be as crazy as Jayne, so he’d have company. ( this is pre BDM I’m thinking?)

f) Book might convert me back.

3) River, she could make any dance partner that she had look good.

4) Kaylee! She could fix the problem while I look at the stars. Then we’d be back inside Serenity before anyone else drinking warm mudders milk. Sounds like a plan.

5) I’d DIE first before ratting my friends out on Serenity. Bring on the torture you Alliance purple bellies!!

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

6) Book, I think he’d keep me out of trouble. Tuff question though!

7) Time to hook up with another crew. The day I’m to old to fly Serenity and to old to seek out adventure is the day I fly that little transport into the nearest sun, and I ain’t talkin Blue Sun.

8) I’d have to go with bunking with Jayne. I’d rather stay up all night listening to his snoring rather that hearing the soft, sweet sounds of Inara saying a name, especially if it ani’t mine. ( just jokin I love my wife)

9) Stay, something like this already happened …..the BDM.

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

10) Nobody’s, I’d stay and look up &%$@# on the cortex and have my fun with something that runs on batteries, and a box of donuts

Z

Really fun post, thanks TheSomnaBulist.

Oh, my, what a great topic. Any of the 10 would make a great entire fanfic, let alone a post, never mind a quiz/questionaire.
This one is the easiest, As Mal, you get to make a great Haven-type speech, and give 'em all the choice, come along or stay behind, knowing the great risk and that it would be no disgrace to not be willing to chance it, but for me, and him, there'd be no choice but to go for it. I 'spect I'll answer these 10 scenarios one at a time, one question per post.

1) Is this post movie? I'd go with Book, because he could call them on some obscure bit of nonsense about their jurisdiction. If not Book, I'd go with the surprise and say Kaylee, because there's a good chance she can make the Alliance wonder why the hell they have us at gunpoint and feel super guilty. And then they'd go away. And then I'd laugh really really hard because they're dumb.

2) If I were Mal, I wouldn't risk any of them, but I'd try some suicidal scheme on my own to get money, parts, and repairs. And then Zoe would have to save my ass and slap some sense into me. Much sulking ensues. And then... alcoholism.

3) I'm not at the party. Mal locked me in the hold as a practical joke. Hun dan.

4) Simon, because he wouldn't be outside. Or possibly with Inara in the shuttles, ready to pick up anyone if they fall off. But if I HAFTA... Is grav still going? If so, then we'd have weight, so I'd partner up with someone of a similar weight so we could catch each other if one of us falls off. If not, then I'm not sure it matters.

5) Gorramit. I'd stay with the Alliance. They suck, but I hear most of them are well meaning. And the verse needs people like the crew out there, on the edge, bringing goods to folk cheaper than the ruttin' corporations.

6) Ooh, tough one. Well, depends on what we need. If we need parts, Kaylee. If there's a job to be arranged, probably Mal, he spends too much time cooped up on his ship anyway. Besides, I still need to get hilarious light-hearted revenge for the hold trick. I'm thinking something to do with hot pink hair dye.

7) Well, Serenity would probably be not this side of spaceworthy by then. Seems a shame to ground her though. I'd only buy her if Mal's gone completely senile and decides to sell her to someone else. Crew's got too many good memories.

8) Oh, GOD THE SMELL. No, I'd team up with River, who's been traumatized by the psychic sex, and deliver an ultimatum: take it planet-side, or we're jumping out the airlock sans suits.

9) Zoe can help watch over Simon, River and Kaylee to keep them safe. I'm fine staying with the crew, though we'd need a new mechanic... And a new pilot, because Mal can't fly for crap an Inara has only trained with short range shuttles.

10) Whoever warrants riffling as matters arise. Jayne's got grenades, Doc's got meds. Though I think I smelled some strawberry candy on the Shepherd the other day...

Malcolm Reynolds, of course. 2nd choice would be Jayne, who, if nowhere else, is highly competent in a firefight. But Mal has a greater, more intimate knowledge of the ship Serenity, and is better able to come up with solutions on the fly should things go south. Note: some may choose River, but this would be a contextual choice depending on the Firely/Serenity timeline. I would not argue with this choice post-Serenity (movie).

2) Serenity has had to make an emergency crash landing on a desolate heap of a planet where thankfully there is no Alliance representation. She's badly broken up and really only a genius could even hope to fly her let alone leave the atmosphere and into deep cold space, so my question is :

Patch Serenity and attempt to leave. Greater dramatic content, which makes this one a no-brainer.

River. I'd simply ask her to lead me during any dance, comfortable in the knowledge that she has the greatest skills in this endeavor.

Zoe. Everything I suss from Serenifly canon suggests that she grew up in deep space, thus it follows she would have the most space walk experience, and be of most use to me when the 'verse starts to go all spinny.

5) You've been taken prisoner by the Alliance for looking like: "A low down dirty Browncoat!" (Alliance words not mine). They give you two options:-
a -Remain with the Alliance and aid them in their role as vanguards of the 'verse, with the alliance honouring the bargain by letting Serenity remain free agents or; -
b -Be released a free man with a ship and a crew of your own if you'll divulge the whereabouts of Serenity and her crew?

a - remain with the Alliance. Serenity must remain free. This is a fundamental trope.

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

Inara. If it's a core planet, she would have the experience to be my best guide. If it's a border planet, Inara gains me the most respectability should I need someone to get me through customs or inspections. Also, it appears to be that Inara did initially choose Serenity as a means of exploring the 'verse. Win-win.

7) Ok way way in the future of Serenity and her crew, Mal and the others decide it's time to hang up their respective space spurs. However you realise you've saved up enough dough to buy Serenity from Mal and be able to afford her another crew to fly with you around the verse. My question is would you buy Serenity and keep flying with a totally new crew or would you also decide much like Mal that the romance in heistin' has gone and there's no way you could fly that boat without Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Book, Kaylee, River, Simon, and Inara.

Without the original crew, there ain't enough love to keep Serenity flyin'. No way I could keep her flyin' like Malcolm Reynolds did.

8) Mal and Inara finally get it on and there's much relief among the crew.

Share with Jayne. Worse comes to worst, he's got a lot of ammo.

I guess you have a decision to make..

a- Move on?

b - Stay with Mal, Inara, Jayne and Book?

b - stay with Mal, Inara, Jayne and Book. Life in the 'Verse will always be more interesting along the paths that Malcolm Reynolds travels.

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

No ones'. Without trust, the community, the family, is broken.

Ok over to y'all.

DRAGO

1) You find yourself in a difficult situation. Trapped in an abandoned cargo bay with the whole Alliance army positioned all around the only exit. You have some weapons and if you're quick there's a chance you could escape. But It'll take some fancy shootin'. So my question is:- Which of the Firefly crew would you like to have by your side in such a situation? You may choose only one character.

Oddly enough, Jayne. Provided I have a way to keep him from just turning me over for immunity. Why Jayne? Three words. Our Mrs. Reynolds. He very cleanly not only disabled the net, he still managed to find time to put shots in the control room's windows. While shooting at a crazy distance with his gun in a space suit.
Oh yeah. Fancy shootin'? Call the man that names his weapons.

Alliance is like Reavers, they spread. Eventually they're gonna find you, and then there goes the neighborhood.
I'd order the ship patched. The crew of Serenity manages "Oh God, Oh God we're all going to die!" at least three times an episode on average. They haven't yet.

You specify 'tenth crew member' and also you specify 'all'.
So, working with this info, River. Why? Because I'm the newbie and I don't know better. Newbie is always the comedy relief for a while.

Simon. Definitely, definitely Simon. XD Reason? Bushwhacked, of course. That look on his face... XD

I find this question slightly confusing. From what I can tell, I'm with another crew that can give them this info, but not actually with Serenity?
In that case B. Only I give them days-old information that sends them on a wild hare to all kinds of places where Serenity was, but ain't anymore.
Technically, I upheld my end of the bargain.

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

It really depends on where this shore leave is. Someplace like in Jaynestown? Probably Jayne. He seems like he knows how to have a good time in that kind of place. Someplace more civilized? Probably Wash or Kaylee, depends on whether I want a laugh or to find something. Full-on Core civilized? Oh come on, there can be only one choice. Mal. XD

I'd buy the ship and get a new crew. As one of my own characters once stated, "The fun, the real fun of this whole mess, is climbing into your bunk and realizing you've got another interesting story to tell tomorrow."

If I have to pick one of the above, B. "The first rule of living tightly packed with nine other people is you do not start playing with the relationships."
But, more logically, I'd just talk to Inara about the problem. She's calm enough on the subject of sex that she'd likely just quietly listen and then find a solution privately.

B, of course. Mal, Jayne, Book and Inara are more than enough to keep life interesting.

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

Hell, I'd be happy playing with the plastic dinosaurs on the bridge.

1) Jayne.

2)Stay put for now. There might be the opportunity to mend the ship later.

3) Jayne. He might say no, of course. But I'd ask. If he said no, I'd dance alone. Show him what he was missing :-)

4) Jayne.

5) Remain and subvert the Alliance from within, looking for my opportunity for either rescue or escape.

6) Jayne.

7) I'd buy the ship and offer the original crew the opportunity to fly with me first.

8) b) EVERY time [GGG]. We'll drown out Mal and Inara [VVVBEG].

9) Stay. Invite my Maori friends to be part of the new crew.

10) Many of the crew would detect riffling. I'll go with Wash as he's least likely to notice.

I almost picked Jayne, but then I realized we'd probably get ourselves killed. If Zoe's good enough for the Cap'n she's good enough for me!

I have a genius mechanic, an ace pilot, and I love my ship. We're headin' out. (But I'll just tuck this little dirt ball away for later usefulness...)

River. Always try to dance with someone who's better than you are. She can lead.

Wash would be good company and keep me too busy laughing to notice how close to floating away into the black I am with one wrong move.

I chose c) I'm one of Mal's and they're coming for me. Got no use for the Alliance and they wouldn't keep that bargain any old how. 'Sides they can't offer me freedom I've already got.

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

I'm getting Simon out. He can't fix anything and he needs to get some fresh air and sunshine. Unless we're going shopping 'cause then I'm taking Inara.

That's a trick question! Mal ain't givin' her up, and he ain't like to settle down. Unless she crashed and *really* couldn't be fixed in which case he'd turn her into a house.

Again: c) A significant look and a quietly veiled word about the acoustics to Inara and she'll suggest they use her shuttle. Or I'll be sleeping in the other one.

B. Inara and Book can *probably* keep us out of most of our trouble. ('Cept Book's dead and all)

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

Mine.
All Jayne's got is guns, Simon keeps the fun stuff locked up in the infirmary, River hasn't got anything anyway and would know I'd been there, Mal would space me, Zoe'd shoot me, Wash would want his dinosaurs back (plus: Zoe is bunkmate), Inara'd give me a significant look, Book's stuff's not worth riffling, and Kaylee'd just look all betrayed.

Jayne - "500 yards with a bent scope." That's good enough for me.

* Jayne. He’s bragged before he can hit a guy in the neck at five hundred yards with a bent scope before, and I’m inclined to believe it as he’s proven to be a good shot during the series out-of-brag too. So all I have to do is hope the Alliance is offering cashy money.

* Assuming it’s not a deserted planet I’d go for staying, otherwise it’s a question of how much my sanity is worth. Is it worth enough to risk on some stupid flight that’s more likely to get me killed that succeed? Yeah, it is to me.

*There’s no way I’d betray my friends, and thus the answer is clear cut (assuming I am friends with the crew!). I’d work with the alliance, who I’m not against either in their public motives, which being just another guy would mean I wouldn’t know there true motives.

Now assuming they are not my friends, they are just another crew. I’d divulge their location for sure. Though I have the feeling that would lead to bad stuff. Jayne found out this way….

*Kaylee, again. Who I genuinely think is the nicest of the crew. Though I’m tempted to take Wash or maybe even Jayne as I think the Doc might be getting a little bit suspicious of my motives by now =)

*Maybe if Serenity was the only boat I could afford. However Serenity is getting pretty old in the series, much later it’s not going to get any better. In the series it is already a problem child, so it’s not exactly on my top list of boats to buy.

Well thanks for all the replies everyone. It's been a most enjoyable read. I like the way you guys take elements from the show, as it was, and use it to fuel your answers. Great stuff.

PIZMOBEACH - thanks for the email. I think you are right. These questions are a bit much but *shruggs* guess I'm greedy to see what people think of such a great show, and one question was never going to satisfy my curiosity.

To All - I can't believe nobody wanted to riffle through BOOK'S stuff?! I'm not a nosey fellow but by Objects in Space I was like: "OK I really want to know what Book's story is!".

I'd soo riffle through his stuff!!!!

Anyway thanks to all. It's been very entertaining reading.
Ric

Oh, my, what a great topic. Any of the 10 would make a great entire fanfic, let alone a post, never mind a quiz/questionaire.
This one is the easiest, As Mal, you get to make a great Haven-type speech, and give 'em all the choice, come along or stay behind, knowing the great risk and that it would be no disgrace to not be willing to chance it, but for me, and him, there'd be no choice but to go for it. I 'spect I'll answer these 10 scenarios one at a time, one question per post.

Wouldn't it be great if they made a Firefly version of the SCENE IT board game. :D

Thanks

I thought about Book's stuff when I wrote my anwsers, but decided against it as I was trying to follow "What would I know?" rule where I could (being a new crew member to Serenity). I ended up at the conclusion each time that without a Book reveals criminal knowledge scene he'd seem like the most boing person to pick. Though, I guess it is probable that he would have had one of those moments if I had been aboard awhile.

Anyway, thanks for the questions. It's nice to see something different. =)

So my question is:- Which of the Firefly crew would you like to have by your side in such a situation? You may choose only one character.

Can I pick Early? I would really want Early. Let's be honest, Mal's got skill with a pistol, Jayne's got a gift for the big guns, but dear old Jubal just knows how to take you apart the minute you meet him. He'd knock the first guy we meet out, scare the next into submission and tie him up, drop kick the next in the face, lock the rest up in the ship, and before you know it we would have escaped.

2) Serenity has had to make an emergency crash landing on a desolate heap of a planet where thankfully there is no Alliance representation. She's badly broken up and really only a genius could even hope to fly her let alone leave the atmosphere and into deep cold space, so my question is :

Well its a good thing I've got a natural born genius in my engine room, and a pasty, fearless son-of-a-gun in my cockpit. I'll just lock myself in my room and hope we make it. Freedom or bust!

3) You are the tenth crew member, having recently joined Serenity this is your first shore leave with the whole crew, and you've been ordered to attend a fancy shinding. I'd ask dear Kaylee, but odds are good she's busy discussing the new AD11's with all the men in the room. Looks like its going to be Inara teaching me to step properly.

Jayne for sure. Nothing better than trading war stories and gun exploits with a borderline psychopath. And since we're alone I don't have to pretend I'm offended by them since the others ain't around.

A. I already work for the government, it ain't so bad, and it's got healthcare.

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

I got a reason. That no good Badger is looking for a fight and we don't want Serenity caught unawares without all hands. I would probably take Wash with me, have a guy's night out that he can't do with Mal due to the whole "guy my wife didn't sleep with" thing.

7) Ok way way in the future of Serenity and her crew, Mal and the others decides it's time to hang up their respective space spurs. However you realise you've saved up enough dough to buy Serenity from Mal and be able to afford her another crew to fly with you around the verse. No way! They're that boat and that boat is them. Besides I'm thinking ol' Mal is getting buried in that thing.

Ain't nothin' wrong with Jayne. Who want's to play Russian Roulette with blanks? I've got a Glock!

I'd reckon times are a changing and its time to roll with the winds. We'll see that old Firefly again in our travels, it ain't that big of a 'Verse.

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

Simon's for sure. I'd take all the labels off his assorted medical thingies, and he only gets to know which goes where if he does shots.

RAHLMACLAREN

"Damn yokels, can't even tell a transport ship ain't got no guns on it." - Jayne Cobb

Here goes nothin'.

1. Book - because he would talk the Alliance down. But if we HAD to shoot out - Jayne. Zoe is pretty fast with that Mare’s Leg, but Jayne has Vera.

2. I wouldn’t stay long. I’d check out the planet for anyone who could help repair Serenity. If they charge too much, offer to do a “job” for them. (No, not *that* kind of job.)

3. River - because she’s a dancer and I’m not. All the focus would be on her (which might be bad if the Alliance is watching. Oh well, more fun later.) and NOT on the guy who doesn’t know what in the Nine Hells he’s doing.

4. Tough question. I guess Kaylee could have explained to everyone before-hand exactly what needed to be done. If Mal’s gonna just have everybody help, then how difficult could the job really be.

--Jayne might “accidentally” shove me, then I go all “floaty” (not floater). Maybe if I ask him some (not too stupid) questions about his gun collection, we’d get along alright.
--Simon would be doing nothing, except holding on for dear life. If I’m doing the same thing, it would be a bad combo.
--Kaylee would get the work done too fast. Not much time for looking around.
--Mal would be focused on the work. He might be too worried about Serenity and the crew to care about sightseeing.
--Zoe might be a little too cool. I can see her being encouraging. “Don’t worry. There was this one time, during the war...”
--Book would all be alright. He might tell how this relates to life at the Abbey, or how they use to do it.
--If Wash is less composed outside the ship and more “Stephen Kepler” (Dollhouse), I’d probably laugh my ass off. Though that could be another “floaty” situation.
--Inara and I would both be trying to figure out how to fix the gorram thing, which could be fun.
--Maybe not with River. (Damn) We’d both be looking around and wouldn’t get any work done. Actually, all that sounds pretty convincing.
::walks away::

Wait.... Inara, ‘cause suddenly I really want to know how she handles being outside the ship.

5. ‘A’ wouldn’t be betraying Mal. Cap’n already has at least one friend in the Alliance - Amnon the postal employee from The Message. However....

‘B’ would be kind of exciting story-wise. I’d be all trying to get to Serenity before the Alliance, and then try to convince the crew I’m trying to safe them.

Unless, the Alliance doesn’t let me go until after they catch Serenity.... then that would suck. Actually the worst scenario would be if the Alliance lies, tells me “Oops, your free to leave. Somebody else told us where The Serenity is.” and I buy it. I hurry and catch up with Serenity, all the while the Alliance followed me, ‘cause there was a homing beacon was on my ship. Damn Alliance! (Umm, does that sound too much like Star Wars?)

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

6. *head explodes from choices... then it heals*

I get the feeling that I like River. Weird. If the Alliance is still looking for her, then I’ll
choose Kaylee.

7. Keep flying. I can always visit again later.

8. *looks at the Serenity layout map, AND squints real hard at the QMX Preview Blueprints*
Trick question. The only room right next to Mal’s is Kaylee’s. The only vacant room is across the hall from Kaylee’s. And it’s smaller, so if Kaylee and Simon wanted to share a room.... why would they pick the smaller one?

If I had an ACTUAL choice, I’d just pick an empty room in the passenger dorm, but....

If I *HAD* to chose (*whine*) I’ll bunk with Jayne. I’m pretty sure I don’t snore, so there’s only a 4% chance he’d kill me in my sleep. But at least, I’d get some sleep.

9. To quote from WKRP episode "Bailey's Show" - Venus: “Think I’ll stay.”

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

10. Inara. I want to find that mysterious vial, and hide a sample from it.... somewhere, until one day, when Simon is alone in the infirmary, I ask him to run an analysis on it.

OK:

1) I'd say Zoe. A good shot and she wears body armour so she'd be harder for the bad guys to put down.

2) I'd have to let them decide, but I think I'd have to stay on the planet.

3) River

4) Kaylee, she'd be the only that knew what to do.

5) I'd either become an agent and then betray the Alliance pretty quickly or take the torture.

6) River, again. (Her ramblings are always entertaining.

7) Buy the ship and build an equally loveable crew.

8) Go in there, pull a gun and tell them to move to a shuttle, make the walls sound-proof or I start shooting.

9) If I had something to move on to then I would leave otherwise I'd have to stay.

10) I'd have to say Book to see if there's any clue as to what he was. Then Inara's chest to see what that liquid was.

OUTERRIMVAGRANT

1) You find yourself in a difficult situation. Trapped in an abandoned cargo bay with the whole Alliance army positioned all around the only exit. You have some weapons and if you're quick there's a chance you could escape. But It'll take some fancy shootin'. So my question is:- Which of the Firefly crew would you like to have by your side in such a situation? You may choose only one character.

a.) I’d most likely have Zoe. She’s a strategist, always keeping an eye on important details, and quick on her feet.

Bear in mind this choice comes with high risk and a great chance of "Oh God, Oh God we're all going to die!"

a.) What, and leave my ship? ;) I’d definitely stick around and get Serenity space worthy again. I’m not the type to give up without a good crack at a solution first. Aye, times would be rough at some point, but everyone’s safety and freedom is paramount in my mind. Plus, we could spend the time telling stories/singing songs/playing makeshift sports games etc. Make everyone comfortable until our eventual departure.

Who will it be and why?

a.) Inara is trained in traditional forms of dance, and an easy choice. Kaylee might be a good partner. She could probably memorise complex moves, much in the same vane as rewiring a console, or putting together engine parts.

Who would you like to be paired with and why?

a.) For this job, it’s Kaylee. She knows what to do in this situation, and would offer helpful advice if I ever got stuck.

5) You've been taken prisoner by the Alliance for looking like: "A low down dirty Browncoat!" (Alliance words not mine). They give you two options:-
a -Remain with the Alliance and aid them in their role as vanguards of the 'verse, with the alliance honouring the bargain by letting Serenity remain free agents or; -
b -Be released a free man with a ship and a crew of your own if you'll divulge the whereabouts of Serenity and her crew?

a.) I’d have to sacrifice myself on this one, even if it meant never seeing the crew again. The crew would probably come back and bust me out. The second option would be trickier – especially if I fed them false coordinates. It wouldn’t guarantee freedom. I’d rather sit it out with the first option and wait for a daring jail break. :D

6) Shore leave again and Mal will allow you to choose who is to go with you. However you may choose only one other person because at least eight crew members must remain on board at all times ( for reasons I can't quite figure out why?!?!) But that's the way it is.
Who you going to take?

a.) I’d pick Inara. She’s well versed in a lot of customs and culture. We could attend the theatre, go on boat trips, meditate on a hillside, or visit a place of historical or architectural importance. The possibilities are endless and always enriching.

7) Ok way way in the future of Serenity and her crew, Mal and the others decides it's time to hang up their respective space spurs. However you realise you've saved up enough dough to buy Serenity from Mal and be able to afford her another crew to fly with you around the verse. My question is would you buy Serenity and keep flying with a totally new crew or would you also decide much like Mal that the romance in heistin' has gone and there's no way you could fly that boat without Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Book, Kaylee, River, Simon, and Inara

a.) Aargh! …. **Thinks.** I’d only want to stay on Serenity if the crew were all together.. I’m not sure Mal would ever want to give up his boat either – no matter what. I like the thought of grounding Serenity, turn it into a farmhouse of sorts, and living out the rest of our days that way.

This is a tricky one, I mean, I can sleep through multiple brass and bagpipe bands marching outside the window at home. Their antics probably wouldn’t faze me.

Outta respect, I’d take the spare bunk in Jayne’s room though. It might be fun spending time with Jayne. We could push weights or trade war stories. I’d prefer giving Mal and Inara their privacy.

I’d stay with Mal. Inara, Jayne and Book. They’d need an extra hand, and someone needs to keep an eye on Jayne if he thinks of double crossing anyone. :D It takes a lot for me to leave a particular place – especially one built on a long history.

10) One day the rest of the crew must go 'on world' and leave you behind to tend to Serenity and any matters that may arise. They expect to be away for one night. My question is:

Whose stuff would you riffle through first?

a.) Wouldn’t even consider doing that. Not even once. Seriously. I’d be keeping an eye out for Alliance and pirates/reavers more than anything. The latter, especially, can strike at any time.

I think it is a simple choice for me to want River at my side for this. Well the Killer River anyways, and not the weak helpless River of the early episodes.

KHAMBILO

Wow, what a fun post.

1. Zoe. She's more than proved her worth in a fight and her background as an independent soldier would prove invaluable in making an escape.

2. Well, assuming that Simon and River are still on board, I would take the risk to leave. Knowing the Alliance and their resources it wouldn't be long before the would find locate Serenity's fugitives. With that being said, patching up Serenity would seem to be the only choice.

3. Hmm good question. I would have to go with River. River would likely stick out at a fancy shindig, and this would be bad news for Mal if he's discretely working a deal. River seems most at ease when she's dancing, as demonstrated in the episode "Safe", and would blend in better if she was dancing (Gotta think about the job). Besides, River would make an excellent dance partner.

4. I would have to say Kaylee. I can't say I know too much about repairing ship hulls, so Kaylee's the natural choice. Also, I imagine she would have a way with keeping me at ease while we are perched precariously on Serenity's hull.

5. There isn't an option C? Well, between a and b, I would have to go with a. It seems you have constructed quite the Kobayashi Maru here Somnambulist.

6. Book

7. Well I can't deny that continuing Serenity's adventures with Mal and the gang would not be the same, but the prospect of continuing with a new crew would be exciting, so I would buy Serenity and compile a new crew. I would ask everyone though if they would like to continue on with me, and hopefully be able to wrangle in a couple old friends with the new.

8. I have no desire to sabotage their relationship or bunk with Jayne. I would probably ask to perform some sort of night shift on Serenity, perhaps taking's Wash's night shift in the cockpit, and I'm sure he would oblige himself since that would mean more nighttime hours with his wife. .... Is everyone on this ship jumping each other's bones now?

9. I'd stay with Mal, Inara, Jayne and Book. Staying out in the black with old friends, with continued adventures, would be far more interesting. Maybe some day I'd retire and settle on some world, but I would like my fill of adventures on Serenity before that time comes.

10. I'm not really the type to go through anyones things, but for the sake of the questions, I would probably look through Book's Bible. He seems like the type that would write his thoughts and reflections on the work in the margins, and knowing Book, he would likely have lots of words of wisdom.

I would fix the ship enough to get her to to the nearest repair facility. If we ain't flying we're dying.

I would probably ask Inara to dance with me, because while there is no chance of any romantic relations with her, I am sure that she would know how to behave on the dance floor and would not flip out for any unexplainable reasons. Being the 10th crew member on board, I have a really shady story to hide, and can't afford to have my cover blown.

JAYDEPPS

BTW very great idea. Thanks for doing this.

1) Jayne as long as he has Vera.

2) I order them to fix it because if anyone can, Kaylee is it.

3) Kayle because she is my favorite female character.

4) Kaylee because she is the most talented with repairs, and I'd have no clue what i was doing.

5) a -Remain with the Alliance and aid them in their role as vanguards of the 'verse, with the alliance honoring the bargain by letting Serenity remain free agents.

6) Jayne because if anything goes down, I'd rather have him guarding my back. Unless the potential threat runs the risk of offering a bribe of some sort.

7) I would ask Mal if I could purchase Serenity and just land her near civilization using her as a house. Because it wouldn't be the same without the crew.

8) b - Will you decide to share a room with Jayne who has a free bunk?

9) b - Stay with Mal, Inara, Jayne and Book? It would be hard losing the others, but why lose everyone. I'd stay with the few I still had and try to meet up with the others whenever we land at that location again.

10) Jayne's. His guns are great.
