America loves a winner!

Everyone knows of Wash's affinity w/ toying around with..well, toy dinosaurs. It's another quirky bit of Wash's personality that we come to know and love.

And then there's young River and Simon, playing a make believe game, where the Alliance incorporates.... dinosaurs in their battle. Sure, kids playing make believe love dinosaurs. Who doesn't ? Maybe paleontology of Earth - That - Was just happened to be a recent lesson for the kids, and they just ran w/ that theme in play time. Seems reasonable.

But for some odd reason, while listening to the latest ep of The Signal podcast, ( discussing what would have become of River, had she not gone to the Academy ) the idea struck me. What if a real life Jurassic Park had been built, or some form of ancient paleo-life been resurrected. ( Most likely, on ETW, because dealing w/ those critters on a new planet would be a terrible excess burden for a fledgling society. ) Maybe that is why the thunder lizards are still so prominent in the minds of the society in general?

On the surface, it seems unlikely. With resources running thin on ETW, I can't see how anyone would justify re-animating long extinct species, especially when it's likely so many contemporary ones are dying out. Maybe there was some eccentric, John Hammond type in the future, who wanted to bring back some ancient life, to give them one more go at evolution, before the Earth goes silent, forever. ? Just a random thought.

Interesting observation.

Could be coincidence, but it DOES seem a bit odd that dinosaurs--who should not really be a part of the history of the modern 'Verse--would figure into more than one episode.

And, c'mon, who doesn't want to see our crew transporting raptors or something? :)
