Lee Stringer, ex-CG Sup/Digital Artist on Firefly and Serenity, has posted a series of Firefly set images on his Flickr page.

With the number of fan-based Firefly productions going on, I'm sure these images will be invaluable as reference for recreating the look and feel of a Firefly class ship.

Thanks Haken. Wish there was some of the bunks. Amazing pictures. So much detail on the ship. Our boys have been hard at work on these same things.

Looks like a lot of it came from old airplanes.

Nice pics. Since I saw that opening scene in Out Of Gas I have always wanted to build a re-creation of that dining table. This gives some great ideas on how to start.

I like the expansion holes in the dash, like you could just drop in new equipment, plug it in, and you're good to go.

Uh oh, I'm starting to get Firefly fever again. I'll remedy it after the Dollhouse finale.

Firefly galley looked like it came from a modern airline food service galley.

Brilliant to raid the boneyard in Tuscon.

One thing that really bugged me was the floppy control yokes. Could have at least connected it to something solid, preferably connect Left and Right yokes like on any aircraft. Didn't Inara in one scene fly her shuttle with the yoke upside down?

You bet! And one time Wash didn't even use the yolk to do his flying. He's just that good.

Now, see, I always assumed (makes an ass out of Umed) Wash was white-knuckling it so hard with the Crazy Ivan and full burn, that his arm was stuck in that position, with a little continuity error of Wash putting the controls up a bit later.

Oh... is it Christmas, again? The production design truly was the work of brilliant artists... how else could folks take rusted panels and reclaimed parts... then using some mad wonderful alchemy, transform it all into something so beautiful...

Looking at all the photos just stirs up all the Olde Tyme Firefly love. Original version Serenity ship was a beloved beater, yet still an artifact from the the future... and that train, that awesome train! All the art and care that went into all the aspects of Firefly, it showed and made rich, wild and wooly worlds.

Just amazing to look through... thanks so much for letting us know Haken!

Thanks for the post Haken. Those are some great pics. Its incredible how dingy the ship looks without nice lighting. I mean, the work they did was great and there's awesome detail and just incredible craftsmanship throughout but you talk about a used universe. Damn.

I pray for one last landing,
on the globe that gave me birth.
Let me rest my eyes on the fleecy skies
and the cool, green hills of Earth.

I remember seeing interviews with Ron Glass and Jewel Staite , regarding just how well-used
( and dirty !) the Serenity ship set was...

Ron specifically commented about the dirt (wrinkling his nose) and Jewel went into some detail about the feral studio cats that inhabited the med-lab deck , and how the sofa across from the med-bay just reeked of cat urine...

Appending the thoughts of 11th-Hour above , I tend to feel that Carey Meyer has never been given enough overdue kudos for Production Design on the Firefly series...

Aside from the aircraft boneyard aspect , I always got the notion that a lot of Serenity was fabricated from late 60's-early 70's garage-sale castoffs...Gave it a homey , 'lived-in' look...

Thanks for the Heinlein quote. The Dean would have loved Firefly. like Joss, he always thought sci-fi was about people first and the gee-whiz stuff a distant second.
