AMC is running poll:

hp

Let's keep Serenity #1!!

Here's another one, but I'm really torn as I love the Millenium Falcon:
http://polls.amctv.com//chart/data/1150-round-1-match-1.html

Edited to add:
In the second poll, Serenity is beating out all the competition! It's currently beating the Starship Enterprise! Yay!

I love how the Enterprise people moan over Serenity beating their ship in the vote.

It's not really a contest against Serenity. The others stand no chance as good as most of them are.

Half of the movies listed aren't even sci-fi.
Eternal Sunshine is hard to clarify but probably just drama. 28 Days Later is a horror. V For Vendetta is a vigilante/action movie. Blade is a supernatural/action movie.
And yes, I can see they all have an element of sci-fi but in that case so does every Bond movie and Babe as well coz it feaures a pig that can talk!

Now the spaceship tournament was better. Serenity win that of course. The weapon one would be tough as I can't really choose between a lightsaber and the M41a Pulse Rifle.

I'd have to say that Avatar's rather handily beating out Serenity for the money title, though.

Oooooooh! No contest. M41a Pulse rifle wins hands down! Always loved the sound those caseless explosive rounds made.

really shouldn't be hard to win that poll of best movie, Avatar was aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawful. James Cameron should be arrested for impersonating someone with talent.

It's okay to like Avatar, but better than Serenity? Avatar is a good escapist fantasy romp, and okay, it does have a good message about environmentalism and cultural tolerance, but Serenity has bigger themes that resonate on personal and political level. Themes about a government military doing research on mind control and population control that's gotten OUT of control.

That, and I'm sorry, but James Cameron desperately needs to hire someone else to do his dialogue. It's not as bad as Stars Wars Episode 1-3, but Avatar, Titanic and his other movies are barely passable, if not outright wince-worthy.

I don't even like the heavy handed message. Environmentalism and cultural tolerance are fine but how about the message that anyone in the military is some kind of xenophobic, hate-mongering fascist? As an army brat, I was incredibly offended. That movie was total garbage.

The amount of money a movie makes is absolutely no gauge on its quality. Anyone who claims to be a browncoat can't say otherwise. I'm happy to report that in the above poll, Serenity is now well ahead just as we conquer every other online poll.

Well... The question I have here is, is Avatar MEANT to represent the military, as in THE military, or are these "military contractors?" There's an awful lot of corporate heads hanging around there. Makes me almost wonder if military hasn't been farmed out as to private security forces in whatever year in the future Avatar takes place in. And military contractors tend to vary by organization in their mindset. Could be the mindset depicted was just representative of that particularly contractor.

As to whether everyone in the military is a xenophobic hate-mongering fascist, no, of course not. Blanket statements about an entire group are bad. In recent times, most of the people in the military are people enlisted because they were poor, or because they wanted to work through college, or both.

There are some groups within the military who do have some odd thinking, however. That's not to say that they don't think they're serving the best interests of their country, but I do have some wariness in regards to methods and threat assessment. Good intentions don't always make someone right. And, as with any country on earth, there is propaganda, and sometimes those messages resonate particularly with certain groups that may not represent us as well as we would like.

So it's not all or nothing, my view is the military is somewhere in the middle.

Of course, I also think there are people controlling the military who do NOT have America's best interests at heart. And I'm not talking about the Generals or the Admirals or even the President, who more and more I'm thinking is just clueless.

It's not even a question of what they meant - it's stated explicitly in the film that they were mercenaries - contractors through a private military corporation.

And being fight-for-money types, I had no problem with how they were portrayed.

Joss is very thrifty. With a $300 Million bu8dget he could have made at least FIVE Serenity Films or spin-offs!

Good idea!

It might be possible to make your own DIY video of Serenity in 3D.

A color filter in most video editing software allows one-click or multi layers of desaturated color replaced with red or green color, then the 3 color layers shifted slightly to give the 3D effect. Any generic 3D glasses could be worn to view the modified movie.

Or it would just be really frakked up, with EVERYTHING jumping out of the screen, causing epileptic seizure.

Boy that was a tough choice!!! Serenity vs. Enterprise! I love Firefly/Serenity but Star Trek has always been my first love in sci-fi!

I'm glad that Serenity came out on top though. Maybe this will give some producer the idea that WE NEED MORE FIREFLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GIVE US ANOTHER MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No doubt. Unfortunately, it likely would not have the same returns.
