Jumped The Shark is a website that is devoted to basically rating tv shows and giving your opinion as to when it "jumped the shark" - when the show went as far as it could and started it's descent downhill.

Be sure to post comments to show our support and raise awareness for Firefly. There are still people out there who rely on reviews from others.

I would love to see Firefly end up in their "The few, the proud, Never Jumped" section. It can happen, if we have an overwhelming number of never jumped votes for Firefly.

Well, to be fair, I'd be impressed if ANY show jumped the shark within the first 14 episodes. It would have to have a great start and then peter off awfully damn quick.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I voted under my user name. Some of those negative comments are just ridiculous. People claiming they hated it before they ever watched it??? Sounds like some real winners over there.

Most of the negative comments on the JTS page are heavilly misguided. The negative seems to be littered with.

a: People that were disapointed in Buffy somehow, and so that somehow extended to Firefly?

b: People that thought there were too many characters and somehow are too dumb to follow the development of more than 3 characters?

c: People that can't understand the concept of a space weastern and therein the concept of a technological divide and regresive society. Duhh well how come they have spaceships but still ride horses and shoot 6 shooters. Ugg people annoy me.

d: People that say Firefly is a ripoff of various sci-fi/weaster anime's that all ripoff from each other. And fail to realize the huge difference between a cartoon and real life drama, and that having the same setting doesn't mean its the same show.

Yup... these are the people we're dealing with in releasing Firefly as a movie.

Keep Flyin'

How is having a bad time slot jumping the shark? That's like saying Wonderfalls in gonna be a crappy show cuz it's on fridays, and all shows on Fridays are crap.

That's not *quite* what jumping the shark means. Jumping the shark means that a show does something so outrageous that writers believe viewers will gasp in shock when they see it. The "stunt" then backfires because the viewer really thinks, "Gee, that was dumb." Everything else on the show becomes anti-climactic because nothing is as gripping as the stunt portrayed.

The phrase "jump the shark" comes from HAPPY DAYS when Fonzie jumped a shark tank on his motorcycle.

Jumping the shark can also refer to a show that continually tries to one-up its own plot complications just for the sake of trying to be more shocking than previous years. Things such as a *real* vampire that's more powerful than the vampires we've already seen (sound familiar?)fall in the "jumping the shark" category.

Firefly didn't really have time to jump the shark, though it actually did have a few opportunities to. If the writer's would have tried to do something stupid like come up with a crime boss more vengeful than Niska or a group of scavengers more savage than the Reavers, it would DEFINITELY be considered jumping the shark.

Time slots and number of characters cannot be in a "jump the shark" category. They just don't fit in the definition.

Having a Friday timeslot doesn't mean a show is crap, just that it's doomed.
