There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Yesterday I bought a new A/V receiver and speaker system for my modest home theater. It's just 5.1 but is expandable to 7.1 whenever I can afford an additional amp and two more surround speakers. Guess what I watched first.

I have both Firefly and Serenity on Blu-Ray, and both are in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. As great as they were before they are even better now. I only watched the pilot from the series so far, but also watched the BDM this morning. Being a theatrical release it has the more dynamic range aurally, especially in the action sequences. As much as I love Greg Edmonson's Firefly soundtrack, I am now fully embracing David Newman's movie score too.

This has to be close to the twenty-fifth time I've seen the Firefly pilot episode (including when FOX broadcast it on December 20, 2002), and maybe at least the fifteenth time for the BDM, but I'm still not tired of 'em, and can't imagine I ever will be.

I've been lucky the past couple of years. The economy in my area isn't what it was like even two years ago, but better than a lot of other places, plus I've been a good boy in sticking to my budget. Also, I got my income tax refund early, plus some insurance money from an accident I was in recently. Minimal damage to my vehicle which I don't intend to repair, but I was more than happy to take the $785 the other driver's company offered. I've also made about $300 the past couple of months selling stuff on Ebay.

As I said, my setup is modest. My TV (37" LCD) and new receiver/speakers are Insignia, which is BestBuy's house brand, about the most reasonably priced products on the market. I've been totally pleased with the quality and feel confident they will back them warranty wise.

I watched The Train Job last night. Still awesome!
