I was watching this new show called Justified which stars Timothy Olyphant as a cowboy type policeman and was taken aback with how much he reminded me of Mal, escpecially the dialogue.. awesome.

"lemme tell you something, I dont draw my gun unless its to kill. Thats its purpose"

Anyone else catch the first episode? What did you think?

I watched it. I'm very torn by it so far.

First off, I like Timothy Olyphant. I really liked his character in Deadwood and thought he did an awesome job in that. His character (Sheriff Seth Bullock) was a good man that leaned toward bad tendencies to uphold the law.

His character in Justified (Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens) seems to me to be a bad man that leans towards good tendencies to get the job done and uphold the law. Now remember I said "so far"... I realize we've only seen the pilot so there is much more to learn from him.

Select to view spoiler:

The fact that he broke into his ex-wife's (who is remarried) house and was drinking a beer made me want to throw him out on his ear through the window. I don't care how much you're still hung up on the woman, NOTHING gives you the right to B&E.

I also noticed how they set up the antagonist as a sort of good guy that does bad things. He blows up a church (that's actually a front for drug activites). He shoots a guy in the back of the head (that turned out to actually be a heavy hitter for the Aryan Nation).

We have a clear understanding of who the protagonist and antagonist is in this show, but the writers did a great job of making each character do the opposite of what they should be doing by writing them so well IMHO.

Kinda like Sons of Anarchy, and I LOVE that show!

Just another cop show, brainwashing cops to go ahead and break the law.

Torture and murder ok, so long as you say the other guy drew first.

He was a good bad guy in Damages. "Hitman gone good".

Both characters are quire sleazy.

Fair bit of brainwashing in Justified. "Patriots" are "wackos" who god-forbid don't want to pay taxes they don't owe to govt employees without real jobs. "Nazi patriot" is an oxymoronic imaginary figment of LaRaza ("The Race") and the Commie Liberal Left. US govt in Nicaragua was "fighting the Drug War" during Iran-Contra (and not importing tons of coke for CIA).

Script appears written by ADL, SPLC and George HW Bush.

Fake nazi working for a rival drug dealer was more accurate, but the top narco kingpin in every county is either the sheriff or CIA (DEA, Homeland Security), or both. Maybe that's the eventual script of Justified?

Only folks using rocket launchers in USA are Mexican mafia, working with the Mex military attacking US homes with attack helicopters.

The only terrorists in USA are fed alphabet agents, who're also the most-organized criminals in USA.

Jedi mindfreaks don't work on me, nor on millions of other waking sheeple.

did not enjoy dude in Deadwood, i think because a) he was not swearington (sic?), and B) i could not take him seriously after i saw him with his shirt off.

but if he is anything like mal, and by like mal i mean a bastard, i must check this series out.

I havn't seen it yet, but I liked Olyphant (god DAMNit) on Deadwood, and really like Elmore Leonard's characters (this series is based on two of his novels), so I'm looking forward to it.

i haven't caught an episode of it yet, but the trailers haven't really sold it for me. And from what i can see so far, Olyphant's character doesn't seem to have much in common with Mal (the cowboy theme and the the dishonorable means to possibly good ends seems to be it.) I just don't ever see myself rooting for Olyphant in Justified. Personally, I really enjoyed his role in Damages. Its sad that his character just sort of disappeared from the show and likely won't return this season...

Yeah.. you have to actually watch it to have any chance of noticing commonalities.

Pay attention to the dialogue.

The other main character is played by Walton Goggins, right? He was awesome on THE SHIELD, and I'm curious to see if he can play anything besides Shane.

IMDB has him listed on 5 of the 11 episodes, so probably not.

From what I've read, he's more or less the season's big bad.
